   The ACCURA PH0T0-M0i|0CULAR 7 x 50
          Its Function and Use
The Accuro Photo-Monoculor  is the only mono-
 culor especiolly designed for photogropfric use.
Unlike other monoculors or binoculors which
con be odopted for telephoto work. the Photo-
Moncoulor is designed ond corrected for  pic-
 tu re-to king.
 Its outstonding feoture is the front focusing mount
similor to thot on o regulor telephoto lens-yet,
unlike long ouxiliory telephoto lenses, the Pho-
to-Monoculor produces on upright groundgloss
imoge ond without the distortion produced by
regulor monoculors. Other feotures include Se-
ries V ond Series Vl fittings plus on orienting ring
for odoptotion to ony cqmero lens by meons of o
stondord Series odopter; extro field coveroge
(560 compored wirh 49o field of view of ordi-
nory 7X50's); the use of rore eorth gloss lenses
with speciol multi-loyer cootings for moximum

brightness ond best possible definition; ond o
lenshood, diophrogms ond filters (without which
telephoto work isl rorely successful!) os optionol

Whot lt Does
The Accuro Photo-Monoculor increoses the focol
length of the comero lens to which it is otto-
ched by 7X. For exomple, when used with o
50'y^ lens, the resulting combinotion is 350n/17x;
when used with o 7Sffilens, o 525ffi telephoto
is produced. This meons thot the subiect oreo
will be 49 times os greot, when photogrophed
through the monoculor, thon with ihe normol co-
mero lens.
With the eydcup, the Accuro, Photo-Monoculor
is olso on exceptionolly fine, extremely bright,
wide-field monoculor, suited for theotre, sports,
wildlife, mountoin climbing ond numerous other
ocf ivities.

Comeros Suited For Monoculor Tele-photo-
g ro pny
Virtuolly ony comero lends itself to tele-mono-
culor photogrophy, but single lens ond twinlens
reflex comeros ore best suited becouse they
enoble the photogropher to compose ond focus
on the groundgloss. However, once the field of
view is estoblished. the Photo-Monoculor's  front
focusing mount mokes it odoptoble to non-reflex
35ry" ond Poloroid Lond comeros.

Equipment Needed
The bosic Accuro Photo-Monoculor consists of
the Monoculor proper, with removoble eyecup,
pigskin leother cose with corrying strop, ond q
Series Vl converter.
When the eyecup is unscrewed, the bosic threod
of the Monoculor becomes o Series V which
occepts oll Series V odopter rings mode by Ko-
dok, Tiffen, Enteco ond Ednolite.
With the Series Vl converter screwed over the

Series V threod. the Monoculor  fits oll stondord
Series Vl odopter rings, or, by meons of o Se-
ries Vll to Vl stepdown ring (not supplied with
Monoculor), comeros using Series Vll odopters.
A drop-in finder mosk for twinlens reflex come-
ros is provided for greoter ropidity in compo-
sing with 2firt  squore comeros.
For the rnore serious worker, o speciol Accuro
Photo-Monoculor  lens-shode ond set of dioph-
rogm plotes ore ovoilqble os optionol occe-
sso ri es.

Mounting the Accuro Photo-Monoculor
After the eyecup is removed, o Series V threod
is exposed on the eyepiece. Screw o Series V
odopter ring, preferobly o screw-in, boyonet or
setscrew type, (use o slip-on type only if other
types ore not qvoiloble) onto Monoculor eye-
piece. After plocing the ossembly onto the co-
mero lens, loosen setscrew odopter permitting
orienting ring to turn until Monoculor is properly

oligned with comero. The some procedure  is
followed, if your comero requires o Series Vl
odopter ring. A Series Vl converter is supplied
with the Monoculor, in o smoll envelope.

Should your comero require o Series Vll odopter
ring, o Series Vll to Vl stepdown ring which
screws into the Series Vll odpter ring will  fit
your odopter to the Series Vl converter of the
Monoculor. In oll coses it is imperotive thot the
Monoculor eyepiece be os closely situoted to
the comero lens os possible. Do not use o retoi-
ning ring between odopter ond Monoculor, un-
less such o ring is required for cleoronce (be-
couse of protruding lens elements on the comero
lens).
Note  The Monoculor  is noi threoded to fit ony           'comero lens directly excepting those with ston-                                          .l00dord Series threods, such os the Argus     ond
Signet comeros. All others require Stondord
Series size odopter rings.

Focusing And Composing
The comero lens is set ot infinity ond oll focusing
's done with the Monoculor's focusing mount by
setting the scole io the octuol subiect-to-comero
distonce. On twinlens reflex comeros, focusing
ond composing is best done by first plocing the
monoculor over lhe viewing lens, then, for the
octuol exposure, over the toking lens. The twin-
lens reflex mosk provided drops onto the ground-
gloss ond mokes possible opproximote composing.
For fost shooting ot infinity, with the monoculor
set ot infinity, the mosk will prove odequote in
determining composition.
With non-reflex comeros. test shots should first
be mode to provide on ideq of the coveroge
with the monoculor.
The closest focusing distonce of the Photo-Mo-
noculor is 30feet. Series Vll closeup lenses con
be used (see " Filters ") for closer distonces.
However, focusing with closeup lenses is confined
to groundgloss comeros.

Exposure And Use of Diophrogm
The Photo-Monoculor con be used with the
comero's own diophrogm, or with seporote fixed
diophrogms which ore port of the optionol lens-
shode-diophrogm kit. The seporote diophrogms
minimize or completely eliminote the vignetting,
(cut-off corners) effect which will occur on some
comeros when the comeros' own diophrogm  is
used. The couses for vignetting ore monyfold
too greot o distonce between comero lens (front'
element) ond Monoculor (reor element) ; too
wide on ongle (generolly found in comeros with
lenses hoving o focol length shorter thon ston-
dord); too lorge o comero lens (generolly oppli-
coble to very fost lenses). Reducing the size of
the comero diophrogm (stopping down) will in-
voriobly oggrovote the vignetting effect.

 This, the moximum lens operture, qlso opplies to
 the use of the ly'lonoculor wiihout its speciql
 diophrogms, ond the some formulo is used io
 determine the moximum speed of the combined
 lens system. Since the f speed will olwoys be
 slower ihon the originol comero lens speed, the
 comero lens diophrogm will not be effective until
 the new moximunn operture is reoched. Since,
 for exomple, o 50 l4 lens (regordless of speed)
 will be o 350'%,  f , Z telephoto lens, wiih the
 Photo Monoculor, the openings smoller thon f :7
 (f    8, f , I I etc.) will be the only ones hoving       '
ony effect on the omount of light reoching the
film.
Three fixed size diophrogm rings ore included in
the occessory Kit. These ore numbered 1,2 ond
3 ond hove diometers of 35Y*,2|nfln, ond 18,%,
respectively. Select the diophrogm ring best sui-
ted' for your porticulor tele-monoculor shot ond

ploce it, with the front port (with number engro-
vod) into the inside of the shode. pushing it into
position with,n ihe ledge of the shode.

occomodoted when the front ring of the Mono-
culor (which is engroved 'Accuro 7X 50 Photo-
Monoculor') is removed. The filier is dropped
into the center of the ring ond the ring with the
 filter is reploced onio the Monoculor.
