By this we meon the use of the instrument for meosuring photo-
metric volues pointing it wrth flop shut toword the light source
or comero respectively.
As hos olreody been soid in lhe foregoing, this method is
preferobly used when toking photogrophs in folse liqht. We
lhen meosure the light holding the instrument with flop shut
in the direclion of the object stonding ogoinst the incident Jight.
Meosuring the pholomelric vclue will olso prove necessory when
the incident lighi is more thon sufficient, which is indicoled by
lhe pointer deflecting to lhe right when meosuring in the usuol
, L woy with flop open directed to the obiect.

indicotes thot this is the odiustment for o speed of
24 fromes per second. The omoture movie cqmero user
con thus reod the shutter speed for on oppropriote
number of fromes.
Pholomelry
ln the post, exposure time wos goged by measuring
the light reflected by the obiect. ln recent times, o new
'method is procticed, colled photometry, by meosuring
the light striking the obiect. However, We only re-
commend this method in coses of very bright illumi-
notion, €.g., exposures ogoinst the sky, counterlight,
etc. To perform meosuring by this method, with the
ACTINO U, close the light odmission window in fronf
of the photoelectric cJlt ond meosure through the
white flop. Proper exposure time con then be reod off
in the monner described obove.
Speciol ottention is cqlled to the foct thot this method
is only odvisoble where the first mentioned system is
no longer odequote, thot is, when light roys of such
intensity ore encountered thot the opocities in q picture
completely recede
For noturo I colour photogro phy, use the sensitivity
stoted on the film, but increose exposure time where
dork colours predominote. The volue indicqted by the
exposure meter is explicit. Possible foctors of error
ore the loss of light coused by the different types of
lenses, irregulor shutter operotion, or vorying sensi-
tivity of film emulsion. We recommend thot fhe" photo-
gropher study the relotionship between th'e'exposure
meter ond his comero by first moking .q 'nurnber of
