The depth- of-field indicator adapts itself automatically to any setting of the front ring. @ Sight your subject through tlre viewfinder. ln the upper part of the brightline finder a re- flected red control mark is rrisible, similar to that on top of the camera. lf necessary this mark can be used to re-adjrrst the automatic exposure control. O The ADOX POLOMAT 2 is now readY for exposure and the only thing you have to do is to release the shutter by depressing the black key on top of the camera. Describing these few operations takes much more time than actually performing them: 1. Glance at the control mark. 2. Set the distance range. 3. Sight the subiect and release the shutter. A few hints for picture taking After releasing the shutter the rapid wind lever should be turned to the right until it stops. The ADOX POLOMAT 2 is now ready for the next shot. @ Once the automatic exposure control is set, it seldom needs to be readjusted for the foilowing pictures. sufficient; if necessary, readjust the pointer by turning the setting ring slightly' In the laige-sized brightline vlewfin.der all subjects can be seen in natural (1:1) size' as ,riewed with both unaided eyes' That is to say, you can use both your eyes. for viewing unJ pf'otographing, which is much easier and .ore a""uiate than with one eye closed' The bright frame reflected into the view- finder iidicates the correct image field de- picted on the film' For close-ups from 3 ft' to approx. 10 ft. the two parallax marks (*-) should be used as the upper and lower limits of the picture. O . .. when it's getting dark The setting ring for the automatic exposure control has two ranges only: the daylight range and the flashlight range. The daylight runge is marked by a symbol of the sun(*; coloured yellow, the flashlight range by a flash and flashbulb symbol (s-) coloured red. Normally ypu can neglect these symbols since they are governed only by the control mark. oo lf the pointer of the control mark cannot be set to the centre the daylight is too poor for instantaneous exposures. When the setting ring is turned on the flashlight range will be set automatically. Now, there are two possi- bilities: G)View original page 11

1. Use a flashgun .
Particulars see Page 4
2. You make a time exposure in seconds'
For this purpose turn the setting ring to
r the left until it stops at position "8" and
stop 22. Now the shutter opens when the
release key is depressed and closes only
when the pressure on the key is relaxed.
In this case it is advisable to use a tripod
and a cable release.
Flash photography - the easy way The flashlight range is permanently set to
r/so sec. Flashbulbs and electronic flash units
can be used. The exposure is no longer set
by the control mark, but the apertures from
f 12.8 to f 122 should now be set manually. The
correct aperture value can be found in the
instructions issued with the flash lamp or
according to the following:

The aperture can also be calculated by using
the following rule: aperture - guide number divided by the distance. Example: guide
number 90 and distance 10 feet is 90:10 - 9, that is to say, aperture f19 or approximately
halfway between f lB and f 111.
Filters and back-lighting
When taking pictures on black-and white
films the usual commercial filters can be
,used. Since the filter factor has to be taken
' into account, the film speed setting should
be changed. By depressing the catch on the
front of the setting ring and moving it to the
side, the black triangle ( ) mark should be
set to the new value. Particulars can be found
in the following table: o

www.butkus.usThe end of the film After the last exposure the rapid wind lever is locked automatically. The easiest way to remove the exposed film is to have it done by your photo-dealer who will then load the camera with a new ADOX film. This is a time- saving way, but, on the other hand, it is not at all difficult to unload and load the camera yourself . First the film should be rewound into its cartridge. The locking knob at the base of the camera should be depressed and held tight, then turn the rewind knob in the direction of the arrow. After some time, a slight resistance vrill indicate that the film has parted from the take-up spool and is rewound completely. Relax the pressure on the locking knob. O Pull, the locking bar downwards and openthe back. ' O Pull out the rewind knob until it stops and remove the cartridge with the exposed film. The locking knob at the base of the camera will re-appear only, when a new film is inserted and the rapid wind lever operated. Loading the camera Open the back. Turn the take-up spool by means of the milled disc until a wide slot with a hook becomes visible. lnsert the free end of the film into this slot and fix one perforation hole to the hook. o Turn the take-up spool in the direction of the arrow until the film is taut and the teeth of lhu transport sprocket engage the per- forations. Close the camera back. Setting the automatic exposure controt Unlock the setting ring for the film speed by depressing the catch and set the black triangle mark to the DIN or ASA speed of the film in use. The ring should snap in audibly! Set the film type indicator to the speed of the film in use. Black-and-white films are marked by a black sector beside the DIN or ASA value, colour films by a red sector. tD Set the frame counter by turning the milled knob: for 36-exposure films, use the small triangle between 0 and 36, for 2O_exposure films set the counter to 22. (B Turn the rapid wind lever to the right until it stops, depress the release key and turn the lever once again. The frams counter now indicates 36 or 20 and will count the number of unexposed frames.View original page 15

www.butkus.us For the construction of the ADOX POLO- MAT 2, materials like polyamide and poly- styrole were used. These plastics are made by manufacturers who are in the lead in this . particular field. The result is a shockproof camera body which is impervious to cor- rosion. All bearings and moving components need no maintenance for a lifetime. The ADOX POLOMAT 2 is a first-class precision camera, just like any other high-priced minia- ture camera. So do not tamper with the camera; if something should go wrong return the ADOX POLOMAT 2 to your dealer who will send it to the ADOX FOTOWERKE.View original page 16
