Brief instructions for automatic exposures
1. Shutter-speed ring set to '125 ( :  1/125 sec )
2. Set aperture setting ring to AUTO
3. Tension rapid-wind lever! The automatic ex-
   posure control is now set ready for use.
4. Green signal above setting notch in finder:
   set distance by using symbols.
   Yellow signal: set distance exactly on feet
                          ( meter ) scale.
  Red signal: turn speed setting ring in direc-
                tion of arrow.Avoid camera shake.

  When the speed setting ring has been turn-
   ed to its stop ( 1,/30 sec ) and the red field
    is still above the setting notch in the finder,
  no picture can be taken with automatic ex-
   posure control.

5. Tension shutter immediately after each ex-
   posu re.

correci film speed. Moke sure thot the ropid-
wind lever is correctly tensioned;  if not do
it ot once. Only then will the outomotic ex-
posure control be set for oction.

Hold your ADOX POLOmotic 3 S to your eye
ond look fhrough the finder:      O
lf you see o green signol obove the setting
noich in the biightline-finder,  set the distoncE
to one of the three green symbols occording
to your subiect. There is nd need to remove
the comero from your eye: the three "click
stops" con be felt.            @
The three distonce symbols indicote:

Use the yellow scole ot the very fronf of the

 lens, which gives distonces in both metres ond
feet.                  O
 In this woy you con exploit to the full the ou-
tomotic exposure control even when lighting
conditions'ore not very fovouroble.
However,  if o red signol oppeors obove the
setting notch, the speed setting ring should be
turned in the direction of the orrow on the
red signol until the yellow, ond perhops even
the green signol oppeors obove the setting
notch.
Should the speed settinq rino come to its stoo
whilst doinq'this ond tFe rid siqnol remoins
obove the ietting notch, outomo"tic exposure
is no longer possible. In this cose use either
o flosh unit or give o iime exposure (see
poge 5).
 Picture-toking with the ADOX POLOmotic
3 S is os simple os ihis:

The reflected luminous frome correctly bounds

Photogrophy without qulomolic exposure con-

When using floshbulbs, the shutter speed
should not exceed l/30 second. When usino
on electronic floshgun oll shutter speeds cot
be used. Then the oberture settinq rino shoulcl
be turned to the riiht so thot o[ertu-re scole
oppeors on top.                Oo
Set the operture (f ,/ stop) to the correct figure
obtoined'from fhe instirictions for the usE of
the flosh equipment employed.

The shutter con olso be set to "8" by meons
of the speed-setting ring; in this iose the
shutter will renroin open os lono os the re-
leose key remoins depressed.
Note! lt is only possible to set the "B" settino
ofter the outomotic exposure control hos beeil
disengoged. This will be the cose when the
operlure scole is visible from obove.

The outomotic exposure control will be
brought into operotion once ogoin when the
speed-setting iing is set to o figure insteod
of "8".                                           ([)o
However, when set to "B" you con expose for
ony length of time, setting  the operture
monuolly. Use o tripod ond q cqble releose.


Individuql exposures
lf you wont to toke pictures with exposure
iimes other thon those provided by the outo-
motic exposure control, oll speed/operf ure
setting combinotions required con be set by
hond.- Such on occosion might orise if you
wish to obtoin speciol effects in ogoinst-the-
light shots or when using filters for speciol
purposes.
But even here the built-in exposure meter is
 still ot your disposol:
O  Depress the dork-red light-meosuring     bufton. @ In the viewfinder you will see
    immediotely the operture setting which
    the outomotic exposure control would  .  hove selected for the shutter speed set by
    you. Use o lorger or smoller  f /stop to
      suit your speciol requirements.
When the shutter is set to "B" the reoding of
 the exposure meter opplies to l/,|5 sec. In this
cose it is possible to obtoin exposure meter
 reodings for film speeds up to 400 ASA (24
 DIN).

setting ring which line up with the two figures

When switchinq from the shutter speed set-
ting of 125 to t6e next smoller figur6 (60), the
operture indicotor in the finder will move to
the next lorger figure, to ll. Now, every ob'

Toking the lost picture on the film outomoti-
collv locks the rooid-wind lever. At first. oet
youl photo-deolei" to toke out the e*pbi"d
film ond osk him to re-lood the comero wiih
o new ADOX film. However, it is not ot oll
difficult to exchonge the film yourself.

First, the exposed film must be rewound into
 its cossette. Press the knob olongside the re-
wind cronk with your thumbnoil ond unfold
the cronk.               O
Press the locking knob in the bose of the co-
mero ond keep it depressed; turn the rewind
cronk in the direction of the orrow. When the
movement becomes noticeobly eosier, the filnr
hos been rewound; you con now releose the
locking knob.            O@
Pull the catch of the comero bock downwords
ond open ihe bock.          O
Pull out the rewind cronk os for os it will qo
ond toke out the cossette. The lockino knSb
will not spring out ogoin until the rop'il-wind
lever hos been tensioned ogoin.         (B
How lo lood your own films
Open ihe comero bock, pull out the rewind
cronk, insert the film cossette ond push the
rewind cronk bock ogoin.          O(p
Roioie the toke-up spool by its milled flonge

Continue rototinq fhe toke-up spool until the
film is tout ond-its perforotioni engoge the
ieeth of the sprocket'roller. Close the comero

Setting lhe comero reody for qclion
Reod off the film speed volue in DIN or ASA
from film box, ond turn the shutter-speed
setting ring so os to set the red dot to the
oppropriole figure; to do this, depress the

check thot the dot hqs been locked in position
properly obove the figure. You con use films
from ll  to 30" DIN (:  10 to 800 ASA). O
When using colour film, note thot the film
speed fiquie quoted on'the box should be
rbgorded- only'os o guide volue. To ensure
the best possible results, rely on your own
procticol, experience in selecting the film
speeo vorue.
Set the frome counter by rototing the milled
knob. For 36-exposure films, set if to the smoll
triongle between o ond 36i for 2O-exposure
fil'ms, set it to 22.Ihe triongle ond the figure
22 ore picked out in red.
Flick the ropid-wind lever to the right until it
stops, depress the shutter releose ond operote
the rooid-wind lever once oqoin. The frome
counter will indicote either 35 or 20, showing
the number of fromes to be exposed. @
