by becoming the owner of o new precision minioture comero, the Agfo Super
Solino. You qre to be congrotuloted on your choice ond we wish you mony
hoppy hours of reloxotion with your comero.
Your Agfo Super Solino offers you the following speciol odvontoges:
o coupled rongefinder,
bright-l ine viewfi nder,
exposure volue shutter,
ond o high-speed colour-corrected onostigmotic lens of moximum definition.
We know thot you ore eoger to leorn more obout this fine comero, ond so we
suggest thot you reod through this little booklet ond fomiliorize yourself with
your Super Solinq.
Your photogrophic deoter moy hove helped you to "lood" the first film in the
comero. Films for 35 mm. minioture comerqs ore wound on o spool enclosed in
o light-tight cossette qnd contoin either 36 or 20 exposures, the octuol size of
the picture being 24x36 mm. There is o wide selection of different types of films
ovoifqble, ond further detoils of these ore given on poges 18/19.lf you hqve not
been shown how to lood the comero, instructions ore contoined on poges20121.View original page 5Page 6 · Read text
www.butkus.us FrLM TYPE TNDTCATOR The Super Solinq is provided with o film type in- dicotor so thot you olwoys know whqt film is in the comero. lt should be set when inserting the film. To do this, push the smoll button in the direction of the orrow (see illustrotion) ond the rewinding knob will outomoticolly spring upwords. Now pull out this knob os for os it will go ond grosp the disk be- tween thumb ond forefinger (see illustrotion). The disk con the be set with the forefinger by its milled edge protruding ot the bottom until the desired symbol oppeors in the window. The disk is rototoble in both directions. The numbers 20,40, 100,250 represent the film speed volues in ASA rotings for block ond white film which is quoted on every film corton. lf you ore using colour negotive film, provision is mode for the following settings: CN : Colour negotive film, CN l7 : Agfocolor negotive film for doylight ond ortificiol lighf.View original page 6

After looding the cqmero, the film counter underneoth the comero should be set
to the storting position.
To do this, turn the milled ring in the direction of the orrow (see illustrotion) so
thot the fixed mqrk is opposite the green triongle. When using o cossette with
36 exposures this is done by setting the scole to the green triongle between 36
ond 0, for films with 20 exposures the green triongle between 25 qnd 20. The
cqmerq ist reody for the first exposure ofter tronsporting the film to bring this
number (i. e. 36 or 20) opposite the fixed setting mqrk (see illustrotion). The film
counter indicotes lhe number of exposures you still hqve left on the film.View original page 7Page 8 · Read text
www.butkus.us FILM TRANSPORT When looding the comero the stort of the film is wosted by exposure to light ond so you musf first moke two blqnk exposures. The ropid tronsport lever moves the film on one frome eoch time it is op- eroted. Ploce your thumb behind this lever ond swivel it round os for os possible. lf the lever is blocked you will hove to press the shutter releose firsi. You should repeot this operotion of film tronsport ond shutter releqse twice of the stort of every new film before the comero is reody for use. lf you inodvertently releose the ropid tronsport lever before it reoches its stop, you must swivel it round ogoin until it reoches o stop which moy lie holf woy; do not try to force it through. Coution! The rewinding knob turns os the film is tronsporled ond should therefore not be hindered in ony woy.View original page 8

www.butkus.us THE RANGEFINDER Focusing is very simple with the oid of the built-in, coupled rongefinder. Through the viewfinder eyepiece ot the bock of the com- ero you will see thqf the entire field of view is coloured slightly ond hos o diomond- shoped portion in the centre. At first this centre imoge will be seporoted into two horizontolly disploced outlines (see illustrotion, top right). lf you now move the focusing ring with the index or middle finger of your left hond you will find thot the out- lines of the double centre imoge converge (lower illustrotion). When this point is reoch- ed, the obiect is outomoficolly in focus. You con rely implicitly on the occurocy of the rongefinder which tokes the guess work out of focusing.View original page 10
Page 11 · Read text
With the comerq held horizontolly the imoge outlines move sidewoys, when held upright they move verticolly. A useful tip: Plqce your finger over the right view- finder window ot the front of the com- erq. You will find thot the viewfinder imoge is no longer coloured ond is more suitoble for lining up your sub- iect. When you wont to focus the com- ero wiih the rongefinder you con re- move your finger; by fhis method the double outlines qre more cleorly visible.View original page 11

www.butkus.us WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW... The preporotory work is over, the comero hos been focused with the rongefinder ond now you require the correct exposure. Lighting conditions ore subiect to considerqble vqriotions, which is why your comero is fitted with different shutter speeds ond opertures of vorying size. With both these meqns you con odiust the cqmero to suit the porticulor light ond subiect. For moving obiects it is best to use o fost shutter speed ond o lorge operture, for londscopes o smoll operture ond o slower shutter speed. Only o limited omount of light should be ollowed to reqch the film-occording to its speed-ond so it is up to you to see thot the right omount is obtoined for eoch photogroph. In your Super Solino shutter speed ond stop hove been combined into one con- cept, the so-colled exposure volue, so thot you hove to set one number only. This exposure volue number con be determined by meons of q photo-electric exposure mefer (e. g. Agfo Lucimeter S); however, with some experience it con olso be iudged.View original page 12
Page 13 · Read text
...AND HOW TO DO IT The exposure vqlue is set by depressing the block exposure volue key (see illustro- tion) towords the centre of the lens ond ot the sqme time rototing the stop ring until the exposure volue number deter- mined or guessed (red scole) foces the setting mork (see upper illustrotion). The key is then releosed whereby o firm con- nection is estoblished between diophrogm sfop ond shutter speed ring. From now on lhe exposure volue setling should nol be qltered ond only the milled shuller speed ring mdy be lurned (see lower illustrotion).View original page 13
Page 14 · Read text
www.butkus.us
Now turn the shutter speed ring ond set the exposure time opposite the triongulor
mork. With exposure volue l2 the following combinotions ore then possible:
Stop f. 2.8 4 5.6 8il1622
Shutter speed L/soo rlzso t/tzs r/ao r/so tlrc l/a
Eqch of these shutter speed ond stop combinotions qllows on equol qmount of
light to reoch the film ond so you only need to select the one best suited to your
subiect by turning the lorge milled ring to the triongulor mork (@, see illustro-
tion, poge 5). To be sure of choosing the correct combinotion it is odvisoble to
reod the chopter on poge 11 corefully.
The thus determined exposure volue setting con be used os long os the lighting
conditions remoin the some.
Let us once more summorise the most importont points of this chopter: Detei'mine
ond set the exposure volue, releqse exposure volue key, turn the milled ring to
set the pictoriolly most fovouroble combinotion opposite the triongulor mork;
then the comero will be reody for oction.

WHICH IS THE BEST SHUTTER SPEED AND APERTURE COMBINATION.? lf you-wish- to photogroph o londscope with both foreground ond bockground in focus, you must use o smoll operture (for exomple, f. 8 ond r/66 sec. os shown on the previous poge). Longer exposure times such os rlso, rl119,, ond l/s sec. con- not normolly be used without o tripod, becouse of comero shqke. For o quickly moving obiect on the other hond you should use o fost shutter speed to ovoid blurring (such os 1/soo sec. ond f.2.8, shown on the previous poge). In the first cose o slower shutter speed is chosen in fqvour of o smoll operture ond in the second cose o lorger operture is selected to enoble the use of o foster shutter speed. You moy sometimes obtoin exposure volue reodings on the exposure meter which lie between two numbers. These con olso be set on the comero with the dio- phrogm ring, but shutter speeds should never be set so thot the triongulor mqrk lies between two speeds. You con eosily ovoid this, however, becouse eoch set- ting on the lorge milled ring hos o click stop.View original page 15

www.butkus.us FOR VERY POOR LIGHTING Sometimes there is not enough light to give qn exposure meter reoding on ony of the instqntoneous shutter speeds. Then you use the "8" shutter setting for time exposures. ln such coses ploce the comero on o firm sup- port, preferobly on o tripod, ottoch q coble releose (if possible with time lock) to the con- nection provided ond mqke the exposure. The shutter stoys open os long os pressure is exerted on the coble releose button. In mony coses, porticulorly with indoor photogrophy, o floshgun will be needed to supplement the ovoiloble light ond for this your Super Solino is provided with q flosh contqct. You merely slide the floshgun (such os the Agfo KM or Agfolux floshgun) on to the occessory shoe of the cqmero ond ottqch the flosh leod to the contoct (see illustrotion). When looking onto your Super Solino from obove you will see o smoll lever on the right which occording to the flosh method used should be set to X or M. 12View original page 16
Page 17 · Read text
Note therefore: With the X-synchronisotion-position of lever to X (or with deloyed oction to V) speeds no fqster thon 1/se must be used. Wifh the syn- chronizing lever sel lo M foster shutter speeds con be used. The opertures required ore given in instruc- tions ottqched to eoch flosh bulb corton. When using on eleclronic floshgun the lever must olwoys be set to X. Controry to flosh- bulbs ony shutter speed con be used. Aper- tures ore colculoted from the guide numbers for the floshgun concerned, €. g. guide num- ber 96 divided by o distonce of 12 feet : operture f. 8. The electronic floshgun con be used for block ond white or doylight colour films.View original page 17

HOLDING THE CAMERA
Hold the cqmerq steody to obtoin shorp i
results. We odvise you to toke your Super
Solinq in both hqnds ond from on ongle with i
1 your qrms ogoinst your body. Your thumbs
should lie olong the bock of the comero with I
the forefinger of your right hqnd on the
shutter releqse. Line up your subiect in the
viewfinder. Everything within the luminous
frome oreo will oppeqr on the picture. lf you
con see only port of the frome, this indicotes
thot you ore tilting the comero or not look-
ing through the centre of the viewfinder. As
soon os you ore sotisfied with whot you see,
press the shutter releose; this is done by
slowly pressing down the releqse lever os for
os possible with your finger tip. For subiects
neorer thon 7 feet use the lwo short lines
(see illustrotion, pqge 7) os the upper limit of the subiect, ond tilt the comero
slightly upwords.
14View original page 18Page 19 · Read text
Give it o triql with your very first photo-
groph: Don't forget to hold the comero level
ond qs close lo your eye qs possible. lt does
tL not motter which eye you use for viewing the
subiect, the mqin thing is to close your other
I eye. Then toke o deep breoth, hold it, ond
press the shutter releqse.
When holding the comero upright turn it to
the righf or left qs desired ond operote the
shutter releqse either with your middle fin-
ger or thumb, depending on the csmero's
position.
Photogrophs without o tripod should only be
token with shutter speeds of 1/oo to 1/56s sec.,
possibly 1/go sec. too. lf you hove o steody
hqnd you mqy be oble to ovoid cqmero
shoke ot r/s sec. by supporting your elbows
somehow, but you must try thqt out'for
yourself.View original page 19Page 20 · Read text

DEPTH OF FIELD
We olreody mentioned lorge ond smoll lens opertures (on poge 8) in the choice
of suitoble shutter speed ond operture combinotions.
big opening . little opening oPeffure )moll Lorge operture but greot smoll but T' 22 : e' g' e. g. depth of field. f' 2.8 = depth of field.
As you will see from this exomple, depth of field is vorioble; it increoses os the
operture becomes smoller ond the distonce becomes greoter. To help you in
finding out how for this zone of shorp focusing extends, your Super Solino hos
whot is known os o depth of field scole (@, illustrotion poge 5). From it you con
find the opproximote depth of field for ony given lens operture.
lf, for exomple, you focus the comero to o distonce of l5 feet with on operture
of f. 8, you look for the two numbers morked 8 on the depth of field scole ond
reod off the ronge in feet between these two points on the odiocent focusing
ring; in this cose it will be obout 10 to 30 ft.
16View original page 20Page 21 · Read text
SNAPSHOT SETTING lf the shutter speed initiolly selected gives qn exposure reoding in which the operture con be set on the red dot between f. 8 ond I I or on f. 1'l you con use the so-cqll- ed snopshot or zone focusing setting. For this purpose the 10 feet ond 30 feet morkings ore engroved in red on the focusing scole. When focused on l0 feet you obtoin o shorp zone from 7 to 17 feet (see illustrotion); on 30 feet the depth of field is obout l7 feet to Infinity. This method is used for close-rqnge ond long distonce photogrophs where you wont to qvoid focusing the comerq qt oll. Exact particulars of the depth of field obtainable at oarious apertures and distances can be seen from the table on pages 26/27.View original page 21

www.butkus.us DELAYED ACTION RELEASE Sometimes you wont to be in the picture yourself. Your Super Solino provides for this wish with its deloyed oction releose. First ploce the comerq on o tripod or other firm support qnd then set the lever (@, see moin illusfrotion) of "V" qfter lhe film has been wound on. As soon os you press the shutter releose the smoll lever storts to move ond operotes the shutter outomoticolly ofter obout 7 seconds. The lever olwoys returns to its originol position ond hos to be re-set for every deloyed oction shot.Any of the instontoneous shutter speeds con be used with it,ond those for flosh. Time exposures (: B setting) connot be mode with the deloyed oction releose mechonism. THE RIGHT FILM FOR EVERY OCCASION Before we explain how to load your Super Solina with film, here are a few hints on ilifferent kinds of film. First of all there is Agfo lsopon F, 40 ASA G7o DIN), a unioersal fiIm of medium speed. lt is a sharp, fine-grain film from uthich you can obtain good enlargements. ln bad weather Agfo lsopon 155, zoo ASA (2L0 DIN), is the right film. lt allows you to use instantaneous shutter speeds or, uhen the sun is shining, smaller apertures to obtain greater depth of field. l8View original page 22
Page 23 · Read text
For special needs there are special films to deal u:ith difficult situations. When
you want extra fine grain for enlargements Agfo lsopon tt, rc ASA (IJo DIN), is
"your" fiIm,
In oery poor lighting conditions Vou can fall back on Agfo lsopon Ultro, 2s0 ASA
(25o DIN), which combines extra high speed tnith oery good sharpness.
lf the worst comes to the zporst and eoen the high speed of lsopan llltra is not
sufficient, you can use AgIa lsopon Record. lt is of equal grain size and sharpness
tt:hilst giaing iust that little extra "something" in speed, enabling you to stop down
more or use a higher shutter speed.Hints on its use are contained in the film package.
Agfocofor films open up the utorld of colour to you. For more than twenty years
these films haoe been great faoourites because of the natural usay they reproduce
pastel tints and bright colours alike,
There are two film types. For home projection of colour transparencies Aou use
Agfccolor Reversol Film. The CT L8 or CK film-that is hoat they are described in
the trade-are rated at 50 ASA (1SoDlN) and 40 ASA (17o DlN) respectitsely.
The letter T indicates the daylight film, K the film for use in artificial light.
lf you zoish to hazse colour paper prints for your album, the right film is Agfocolor
Negotive Film CN 17 , a unizrersal film f or use in daylight, artificial light andftashlight.
The correct way to load the camera with film is described on the next ttno pages,
