To open the comerq bock the two locking buttons (1) should
be pressediogether between thumb ond finger. The topered
end of the film proieciing from the cosseiteshould be holf-
folded ot the middle of the third perforotion (A), so thot when
the end is insertedthe folded end in the slot of the toke-up
spool (B),the third perforotion cotcheson the red hook.
Operote ihe releose lever (13) ond the rewind knob (12)will
move out; pull it out further still, ond ihe cossettecon be
ploced in the cossettechomber of the comero, ofter which the
rewind knob should be pushed in ogoin. Nexf, turn the knob
slightly in the direction of the orrow so thot the film is
stroightenedwith ifs inner surfoce in the focol plone. The
comero bock moy now be closed.

For sofe ond correctfilm tronsport,the ropid-wind lever (2) must be turned steodily
until it comesto o stop. This movementoperotesthe film tronsport,cocksthe shutter,
works the exposurecounter ond sets the double exposurelock. When releosed,the
lever springsbock to its originol position ond con only be moved ogoin when the
shutterhos been releosed.
Beforeyou toke your firsi picture, the film which hos been exposed during looding
must be wound on by moking THREEblonk exposures(tronsportond shutterreleose).

of "O" by pressingond turning it to the left
or right. The counterworks only when there

T H E S H U T T E R
The ARETTEis equipped with o VARIO-shutter.You do not need to cock the shutter,
os this is done outomoiicollywhen the film is odvonced.
The VARIO-shutterprovides exposuretimes of rlzs,tlso,r/zooof o second ond "B".
Exposuretimes con be set either before or ofter cocking the shutter. Only the
exposuretimes shown on the engrovedscole ore ovoiloble. Iniermediotetimes connof
be set. lf the morker stonds between iwo exposure iime volues on the scole, either
the longer or the shorterexposurewill be releosed.
S H U T T E R R E I E A S E
The shutteris releosedby groduolly pressingthe releosebuiton (3) down to the right
with the forefinger,until the shutter operotes. Avoid sudden or ierky movements,
which might result in blurred pictures. For time exposures,set the shutter setting
ring (8)ot B. The shutterwill now remoin open until the button is releosed.For extro
long exposures,it is odvisible to use o cqble releosewith o locking screw.The coble
should be screwed into the socked (4).

After you hove mode the lost exposure,you will feel on obstructionwhen you lry
to movethe levero full stroke;do not pressfurther or you will teor the film from
the cossette.The exposurecountershowsthe numberof exposuresmode but if you
wound too muchfilm on before settingthe counter,it will not reoch the expected
20 or 36.
Beforeopeninglhe comerobqck,the film musl be rewoundinto the cossetle.
When you operotethe releoselever(13),the rewindknob (12)will comeout outomoti-
colly.Turnthe knob in the directionof the orrow ond you will feel the film being
rewound into the cossette.Wotch the exposurecounter;
when it stops,ond decreosedresistonceis felt, the fi lm
is bock in the cossette,which moy be removed ofter
openingthe comero bock (in subduedlight).The rewind
knob should be pressed bock to its normoI position,

with on internoI threod for holding color-filters,close-up
lenses or o sun shode. The fi lters ond lenses ore
threoded on both sides so thot o ll three moy be used
oi the some time. lf used with o filter, the close-uplens
should be ottochedto the comero first.
A color-filterwill reduce the omount of light entering
the comero. To compensotefor this, the exposuretime
hos to be lengthened.lf on "exposure volue" is ob-
toined from o meter or o colculotor,it should be de-
creosedby the omountsshown on poge 20.
Exomple:A medium-yellowfilter,foctor 4 is being used;
4 times the normol exposure should be given, e.g.

lf you wish, o portiolly exposed film con be removed from the comero in order to t
use onother kind of film, suchos o color film. I

When relooding the comero with o portiolly exposed cossette,first cover the lens
firmly wiih the lens cop, then lood the comero ond set the exposure counter os
detoiled on poges 3 ond 4; operote the lever ond shutter releose until the film
countershows q number 2 or 3 more thon the number reoched before - this ollows
for ony voriotion in looding. Do not forget to remove the tens cop before using
the comero.

The inside ond outside of the comero should be gently brushed free of dust from
time to time with o fine-hoiredbrush.Fingerprintson the metol ports con be removed
with o soft polishing-cloth.
Try to keep the lens unmorked by fingerprints,but if these or specksof dust need
removingfrom the lens or viewfinder,use o smoll pod of speciol lens-cleoningtissue,
with core; do not rub hord.
Never leove the comero where it will gei domp or hot. At the seo-sideremember

comero mechonismond lens surfoces- o usefultip is to keep the comero in o plostic
bog when not in use. t,
