For sharpness control in depth as shown, first focus sharply in the H axis, then in the
H1 axis (or along V and V' as appropriate). The t\lptna is equipped with a patented
angle indicator which shows the required tilt angle and direction lrom the difference
between the two focusing settings.

The depth of field scale
By using tilt and swing for sharpness
distribution control (convergent planes
principle) you can sharply focus on
inclined subject planes even at the full
lens aperture.
To increase depth of field in front and
behind such a plane, however, you still
have to stop down. To indicate the re-
quired lens stop for this dePth, the
t\lptna has a depth of field scale for
4 x 5 inch / 9 x 12 cm format.
In the first place however always aim at
optimum sharpness distributlon by
using the tilts and swings. Then use the
depth of field scale of the \lPtna asfollows, after precisely focusing the
lens at its maximum aPerture.
                                   Operation:

moving the fine focusing drive) to set
                                                       at the zero line.

With close-ups even slight changes in
the position of the lens standard affect
critical sharpness. ln this case adjust
the lens tilt first by visual sighting as
shown, so that the planes of the sub-
lect, the lens standard and the image
plane meet in a common point.
