                  GENERAL FEATURES
   The BEAUTYFLEX is the product of one of Jopon's leoding comero monufocturers
  with mony yeors' experience in designing ond monufocturing precision reflex-tyPe
  comeros.
       It is o twin-lens reflex comero which mokes l2 2%" X 2y;" exposures on No. 120
  or "Brownie" size roll film, either block/white or in color.
    Both Toking lens ond Viewing lens ore   f /3.5, gOmm focol length, 3-element,
  hord cooted ond color corrected.
   The Shutter hos 5 blodes ond 9 speeds: B, ond  l, 1/2, 1/5, 1/10, 1/25,
  1/50, l/100, & 1/3oo second.
    The Self-timer is built-in.
 -  The Shutter is cocked monuolly.
     Shutter releose is built into the body ond is fitted with sofety lock ond coble
.l releose socket.

LOADING THE GA}TERA
  BEAUTYFIEX tokes No.  I 20 or "Brownie" size roll film for  I 2 2'/" x 2,r4" pictures
in block/white or in color. The comero is eosily looded by followinj four simple
operotions: (l ) open the comero, (2) insert the fitm, (3) wind film to storting
morks ond (4) close fhe comero.
                                            l.  To Open The Cqmero
                                                   l. Unlock the Bock Cover by turning the Bock
                                Cover Locking Disc (26) os for os it witl go
                                    in the direction indicoted by the orrow on
                                      the foce of the Disc toword "O".
                                 2. Open the Bock Cover.
                          2.  fo Insert fhe Fllm
                             (Nore : In o new comero you :will find on
                          empty toke-up spool olreody in  positon.
  . Otherwise,  use the empty spool of the used film roll os o toke-up spool by
 rtronsferring   it to the Film Toke-Up Chombe r (29) . )

                                                 l.  Fit the slotted end of the ftlm toke-up spool
                               to the winding k"y of the Film Winding
                           Knob (3).
                                            2.  Pull the Film Toke-up Chomber Pull-out Knob
                             (25) oll the woy out ond hold in this
                                     position by opplying pressure with your
                                     fingers while you push down the toke-up
                                   spool on the Pull-out Knob side.
                              3. Releose the Pull-out Knob (25) bock into
                                         ploce.
                                                             moke                                4. Turn the Film Winding Knob ( 3 ) to
                                       certoin thot the toke-up spool is in position.
5. Turn the Film Winding Knob (3) until the longer slot on the spool foces Up.
6. Pull out the Film looding Pull-out Knob (21) ond instoll o new roll of No. 120
   film into position on the spindles of the Film Looding Chomber (35) with the
   printed side of the bocking poper focing ouf ond lhe end pointing directly
   toword the toke-up spool.

3. To Stort fhe Fllm
    l. Breok ond remove lhe seol on the new roll of film-
  2. Pull out obout 5 inches of the bocking poper covering the film ond insert
     the topered end into the longer slot of the toke-up spool os for os it will go.
     (Precoutlon :  Moke sure thot the film is centered evenly on the toke-up
      spool; otherwise it moy climb one end of
     the spool ofter the comero is closed ond
     teor the poper./
  3. Wind the Film Winding Knob (3 ) until the
      storting morks on the film bocking poper
     ore in line with the Red lndicotor Dots
     (St; on both sides of the film operlure
      frome.
  4. Wind evenly, giving the film some tension
    by using your thumb os o broke.   .
  b. Close the bock ond tock.

 4. To Clore The Comera                                                                                                               I
      l. Snop the Bock Cover close.
    2. Press lhe cover ond the comero body together wifh your hond to counterocf
                                                                                            {      the spring pressure of the Film Pressure Plote (28) ond the Exposure Counter
      Automotic Return Push Rod (34).
    3. Lock the Bock Cover by turning the Locking
      Disc (26) oll the woy in the direction of the
      orrow toword "C".
 5. lo Advonce fhe Flfm
      l. Set the Film Typ" Indicotor (9) to correspond
      to the kind of film ploced in the comero.'
    2. Turn the Film Winding Knob (3) untit it stops
      with o "clicking" sound.
   3. Numerol " l " will oppeor in the Exposure
      Counter Window (5) indicoting thot the film ist       in position for the first exposure.

     .        OPENING AND CTOSING THE VIEWFINDER HOOD
      l. To Open fhe Focusing Hood
         l.  Lift the reor edge of the Focusing Hood (2), viewed from operotor's position,
           until it clicks into open position.
   2. To Glose The Focusing Hood
         l. Press down on the top lid of the Focusing Hood (2) until it snops bock into
         closed position.
  i   3. Using The Focuslng Mognifier:
 "      l. To Roise: Press in on the top edge of the Focusing Hood Front Flop (12)
          until the Focusing Mognifier snops into roised position.
      2. To Lower: Press down on the edge of the Focusing Mognifier (l)  until it
           '  snops bock into locked position.

           VIEWING AND COMPOSING TIIE PICTURE
     There ore three methods of viewing ond composing the picture:
                                                                                       Reflector   I. First, ond most commonly used, is looking down on the ground-gloss
     (Se;. A full-sized imoge will be visible which, except thot it is reversed
       left-to-right, is identicot withiwhot you will octuolly see in the finished photo-           {
     groph. tn this "reflex-type" view-finding, focusing is done of the some time the          !

2. Second, there is the  "criticot focusing" method
                             obtoined by using the Focusing Mognifier (l)  ond
                             looking down ot the imoge registered on the
                              ground-gloss Reflector.
                            3. Third, there is the direct eye-level composition which
                                     is obtoined by sighting through the smoll squore
                            of the Reor Sight for Direct Viewfinder (23) ond
                            the lorge squore in the front formed by opening
                            the Focusing Hood Front Flop (12).
                  FOCUSING
  One of the chief odvontoges of o reflex type comero is the obility to
occurotely ond outomoticolly focus the comero by turning the Focusing Knob (8)
while looking ot the shorpness of the imoge reflected directly on the ground-gtoss
Reflector. Under most circumstonces this is the best method to focus this comero.
   However, it is olso possible to focus the comero by utitizing the distonce scole
provided on the bose of the Focusing Knob (8). In this cose, the distonce between

comero to infinity without re-focusing for eoch successive shot; provided, of course,
the light conditions hove not chonged in the intervol.

                  SETTING THE SHUTTER SPEED
. The shutter on the c<lmero ollows light reflected from the imoge to poss
through the Toking lens ( t O; qnd foll on the unexposed port of rhe film for o
controlled number of seconds. The 9 shutter speeds provided qre B, l,  l/2,  l/5,
l/lO, 1i25, 1/50, 1/lOO ond l/3OO second. The numerols oppeoring on the
Shutter Speed Setting Ring (10) qre, except for B ond l, froctions of o second;                                             ttst'thot is "2tt equols l/2  second,     equols l/S*  of I second ond "30O" equols

                                                                            is  To operote the self-timing device which
built into the shutter, (l)  set the shutter speed,
(2) cock the shutter ond then (3) press down
on the Self-timer Lever (15). The Self-timer
is set into motion by pressing in the Shutter
Reteose Button (t t).   lt works with opproxi-
motely l0 seconds deloy.
Precoution :  Under no circumstonce should
the shutter speed be chonged ofter the shutter is cocked os this moy domoge
the delicote moving ports. lf  it is found necessory to chonge speeds ofter the
                                                                                    Lensshutter hos olreody been cocked, block-out the Toking Lens (16) with the
Cop or the polm of your hond ond releose the shutter first by pressing the Shutter
Releose Button before re-setting the shutter for onother speed.

 A coble refeose ottochment con be fitted to the Shutter Releose Button by
screwing out the Nut (37) fitted to the bose of the Shutter Releose Button.

                     SETTING TI{E APERTURE
  The size of the operlure or lens opening derermines, in porl, the omount of
light possing through the toking lens on to the unexposed film. The Aperture
Scole is orronged in the order of the following F-stop volues : 3.5, 4, 5.6, 8,
 I l, ond 22. Most light is let through ot  f /3.5 opening ond there is opproximotety
75% decreose in light tronsmission between the  f /S.S stop ond the  f /4  stop.
For eoch successive higher F-stop number thereofter there is on opproximotely 50%
decreose so thot the leost omount of light is odmitted ot f / 22. Since the omount
of light required to reproduce the imoge on the film is fixed, it con be reodily
seen thot the shutter speed ond the operture ore inter-dependenf. Stoting fhis onother
    o high F-stop number (smolt lens opening) witl require q slow shutter speedYoy,
(longer light odmission time) ond convsrsely, o fost shutter speed (short time) will

   occeptobly shorp focus. On the other hond, imoges folling outside of this zone
                                                                                                       is colled  become progressivety out-of-focus. This zone of occeptoble shorp focus
  the "depth-of-field" or the "depth-of-focus" ond is porticulorly importont to
   beginners when focusing of very close distonces.
                                  qnd "Depth-of-Field"2. lnter-relotionship between Lens Opening
                                                             such foctors                  ,lF   A direct relotionship exists between the "depth-of-field" ond
                                                                                    length  os distonce of comero to picture subiect, omount of lens opening, focol

of-field" is primorily influenced by (l ) the lens opening ond (2) the distonce
  between the comero ond the picture-subiect. Toking these two foctors in the
  order listed, it con be soid thqt smoll lens opening (higher F-stop number)
   gives GREATER "depth-of-field" qnd conversely, lorge lens opening (lower F-stop
  number) will result in DECREASING this zone of shorp focus.
    As to distonce between the comero ond the picture-subiect, it is well to
  remember thot the closer the distonce the LESS "depth-of-field" so thot the
  beginner should be very coreful to focus his moin subiect correctfy when toking
   pictures ot close distonces. For foirly distont to very distont imoges, the "depth-
   of-field" for most lenses is generotly odequote ond there should be no problem
  of ony imoge being out of focus.
  Remorks : The volues of the "depth-of-field" inscribed on the bose of the
   Focusing Knob (8) ore opproximote figures in feet.,

  by reoding the set of figures on the Distonce Scole (7) directly under the
   poir of figures "8" on the "Depth-of-Field Scole" (6).
  To lllustrote : We ore ossuming thot the F-stop number oppeoring on the
   Aperture Scole is "8". Reoding the two sets of figure on the Distonce Scole
   (Z > immediotely betow the poir of figure "8" on the Depth-of-Field Scole
   (6), we find the numerol 8 under the forword figure "8" qnd the numerol
       I 3 under the reor figure "8". This meons thot
   onything folling between opproximotely 8 feet to
  13 feet from the comero Toking lens will be in
   occeptobly shorp focus. Now, if the F-stop
  number hos been set of "22" the zone of shorp
   focus will be ony imoge folling inside the "depth-
   of-field" of opproximotely 25 feet (the distonce
   figure under the forword "2.2" on the Depth-of-
   Field Scole') ond 6.5 feet (ttre distonce figure
   folfing under the reor "22".)

t                   FLASH SYNCHRONIZATION
   Either the flosh unit with brocket ottochment or the occessory shoe type flosh
gun moy be used provided both ore provided with Europeon type duot cord
terminol connector.
   Flqsh synchronizotion is Clqss X.
   Flosh pictures mqy be token with oll stqndord flosh bulbs or with strobo.
  For synchronizotion with shutter speeds between I second ond   l /25 second,
including B, it is odvisobfe to use the wire-fifled Closs M flosh bulbs such os GE
or Westinghouse Nos. 5, 11, 22 or Sylvoniq Wobosh Nos. O, 2, 25, 40. These bulbs
furnish light for obout l/SO second ond the chief odvontoge over the gos-filled
closs F bulbs is thot they give greoter right output.
  The M 2 bulbs moy ofso be used with shutter speeds from   I second to 1/25
second  (or B) when the oction is not too fost ond the picture  is being token ot
foirly close distonce.

UNTOADING THE CAMERA
Note :  Never chonge films under direct suntight. Even the shodow of your own
       body witl help.
 l. After moking the 12th exposure, turn the Film Winding Knob (3) unril the end
   mork (C)  qppeors in the Window ond there is no movement of the fitm counter
   regordless of how mony revolutions the Film Winding Knob mokes.
2- Continue to turn the Film Winding Knob for severol more revolutions to moke
   certoin thot the film is completely rewound on the tokerup spool.
3. Select o shody spot ond open the comero Bock Cover.
4- Pull out the Toke-up Spool Putl-out Knob (25) out oll the woy ond tift the
   film out from thot end.
b. For eosy opening when developing the film, fold under o good portion of the
   bocking poper ond seol with tope.
6-   Put the exposed film bock into the originol pockoge                                                            -  v-  to protectr          it frorir t                                                                                                    '   sunlight.
