Il Lffl:
Size is 620. Standard film such
as Verichrome, Plenachrome is
best for all around use. indoors
and outdoors and with flash bulbs.
You will get better pictures on dull days
with the fast films, like Super XX and Super
Pan Press. Fast film will let you take in more
in your flash pictures too, faiily large interiors
and groups.

You can make beautiful flash color portraits
at around 6 feet with your Boy Scout-Reflex
camera. Color needs quite a lot of light, so
we recommend the larger flash bulbs such as
thethe G.E. No. 5. Howeverr /ou can useG.E. M2 for color if you care to slip a por-
trait attachment over the camera lens, and
work at around 3 to 4 f.eet.

Always use flash, and you will always get
the picture, particulaily when taking snapshots
of people. Naturally, you'd use Sunshine to
make a picture of a scenic view. But for any-
thing up to 15 feet from camera, flash is your
best guarantee of getting your picture every
time. This is particularly true outdoors on a
brightly sunlit day. More about this later.View original page 3Page 4 · Read text

You are now ready to replace the back by
locking it in its proper place at bottom firsi,
and then_ firmly closing clip at the top of the
camera. Now turn the winding knob until the
figure 1 appears in the
red window on the back of
the camera (Illust. 4). An in-

dots will appear shortly
before the figure I appears.

STEADY!
Your Boy Scout-Reflex
camera has a good sharP
lens. Give it a chance to
make crisp, clear pic-
tures for you. Get the 'holding habit of the
cam eta tock-steady
when you make pic-
tures. That's what the
neck strap is for. Put it
around your neck, hold
the camera in both
hands, and lower it un-
til the strap is firm. This
helps you keep it steady.View original page 7Page 8 · Read text
www.butkus.us row PREss ! Vhen ready, press the shutter release firmly, but gently. Hold your breath for an instant while doing it. The release is located so you can do this easily with your thumb while cradling the came ia firm|y in both hands. SHARP ! That makes sharp pictures. Jabbing theshutter release, or holding the camera loosely results in a wobbly camera. You'll get a pic- ture-but you'Il get a far better picture if you learn the simple habit of smooth shutter opera- tion with a rock-steady camera. closE ! Vhen shooting people, and most of your pictures will have people in them, come close. About six feet is an ideal distance, no closer. That way the faces will be big in your finished pictures. For portraits, where you want the head as large and sharP as possible, buy a close-up lens attachment. This will allow you to shoot at around 3Vz feet to 4 feet. It's ideal for pictures of pets and babies-especially in color photography for which your Boy Scout- Reflex Camera is ideallv suited.View original page 8

Scout-Reflex camera the equal of the finest pro-
fessional equipment, for the kind of pictures
you'll take, around home, on travel and vaca-

ture. It's like having your own sunlight.
See how the right combination of film and
, bulb (next page) lets you shoot from 5 to 4O
feet, indoors or out, day or night. Look what
a few extra flash bulb pennies do for you:
1. You can shoot indoors, day or night, uitb
all tbe r?orn lights on,It's easy to see what you'll
get, and your subjects will be at ease.
2. Even after dark, outdoors, the flashbulb
gives plenty of light for sunshine bright pic-
tures. (By the waf r if you plan pictures of pic-
nics, Halloween fun, etc. outdoors after dark,
be sure to have a flashlight along, to see the
numbers when you wind film.)
3. In sunlight, don't make your subiects
look into the iorr, or they'll rq..int or frown.
Face them away from the sun,-or make them
comfortable id the shade. Then use flash.
You'll be sure to get the picture-and it will
be better, with better, re-laxed, expressions.

It _s 1 very common error to try to get too much into the picture. The best profeisional
photos are simple.
Take down wall decorations and move fur-
niture if you must, ro get simple backgrounds
and surroundings.
DIRECT YOUR SUBIECTS
Give them something to do-read a book,
knit, play with a pet, handle a favorite object
or toy. Get their attention off the camera.
Flash lets you get rhese interesting pictures
of people doing things they like to do.
IIIIITAIE
$/hen you see a picture in a newspaper or
magazine that you particularly like-clip it out
and save it. Then try to make one of your own
as nearly like it as possible the next time you
{ use your camera.
II DO]I'T B E SHY
Picture taking is fun. Sometimes at a puty
or in a public place you may hesitate to start
making flash pictures because you attra.ct
attention. Actually people will be interested
in what you are shooting, may even join in
and help you,to get in on the fun, once you
get started.
