Push the shutter release when the light is green As eoon as the film is properly ineerted in the camera and the film speed set on the light meter, you can start shooting. Select a ehutter speed, raiso the camera to your eye and you will see the picture framed by the bright linee of the viewfinder. The two markings in the uppbr part of the bright line frame are for the parallax compensation when shooting at a distance of 3 feet (1 m). At thie ehort distance .the picture frame will be limited by these markinge. You can check the automatic control of the diaphragm on the indicator visible in the viewfinder. When the signal is green, light conditione are sufficient for a correctly exposed picture.View original page 2

You also see on the signal stripe the f-stop the picture will be exposed with fully automatically (with the help of the f-etop you can check the depht-of-field, see page l3). If the signal is red the light is too poor for a properly exposed picture. This doee not mean that you have to forget about taking this picture as you can make nice flash picturee with your Paxette electromatic III, too. The fully automatie control of the camera is onry in operation when the mark "auto" is opposite the index (3) below the honeycomb window, when the shutter ie cocked and the film transported. with the Paxette electrornatic III you can also switch to manual operation and choose shutter speed and f-stop the customary way. Before you view the scene make eure that the rapid wind lever (17) has been actuated. The rapid wind lever cannot be moved when the firm has been already transported (double exposure prevention). The distance ie eet on the dietance eetting ring (I2).View original page 5

www.butkus.us When inserting a ne\M film it is very important TO SET THE FILM SPEED IM}IEDIATELY You can use all black and white and colour films with a film speed of 10 - 800 ASA (110 - 300 DIN) with your Paxette electromatic IIl. The different film speeds are calibrated on the ehutter speed setting ring. When looking on the camera from above the ASA values are right, the DIN valueg are left to the shutter speeds. Press in the locking tap (S) and turn the shutter speed setting ring (R) until the red index (M) aligns with the reepective ASA or DIN value given on the film package. Perfectly exposed pictures can only be achieved when the correct film speed ie set.View original page 8

www.butkus.us Fre-set the shutter speed first Before taking a picture you have to set one of the shutter speeds on the setting ring (Il). Al- ways bear in mind that the faeter the shutter speed the sharper the picture. At a speed of 1/30 sec. there is always the danger of blurring. Pictures of moving subjects should be taken at a speed of l/125 sec. For shote of fast moving subjects (racing cars, sport pictures) you should use 1 / 500 sec. if possible. F'or landscapes, portraits, groups etc. we recom- mend a shutter speed of 1/50 sec. Attention: Shutter setting "B" (the shutter remaine open as long ae the release is pressed down) ie locked at setting "Auto".View original page 10

Manual operation Another advantage of the Paxette electromatic III, particularly for the advanced photographer, is the possibility to switch off the automatic control, i. e. to use the "old-fashioned" method of choosing shutter speed, f-stop and distance individually. So, if you want to take imaginative picturee turn the setting ring (9) until the mark "Manuell" (manual) and the f-stop numbers are below the setting mark (3). To get an idea of the prevailing light conditions it is advisable to make a measurement with a pre-eet ehutter speed and the automatic control. Then you can move to "Manuell" and set a shutter speed / diaphragm combination at will by just aligning shutter epeed and f-stop with the setting mark (3).View original page 11

t0 Distance setting
The Paxette electromatic III ie fitted with a distance setting ring (12)
for a distance range calibrated from 3,3 feet (l m) to in6nity. Be-
sides this, there are two quick-stop settings for snapshots marked
with a head for short dietances (4,5-9 feet:1,5-Bm) and a church
steeple for landscapes (9 feet- oo : 3 m - oo). When turning the
distance setting ring these two quick-stop settinge will click into
position.
The f'stop indication on the green signal stripe in the viewfinder is
in yellow colour (from f 2,8 f 4) and in white colour (from - f B f 22). If these numbers are yellow the distance should be -
exactly set on the distance scalel if they are white the quick-stop
eettings can be used.
When the camera ie set on "Manuell" (manual) the signal in the
viewfinder ie red.View original page 12Page 13 · Read text
1t Another useful hint for distance setting: An upright standing person at a distance of 10 feet (3,5 m) from the camera will fit into the bright line frame when holding the camera horizontal. At a distance of 4,5 feet (1,5 m) the 6ame person will be framed from head to waist.View original page 13

I2 Fully automatic diaphragm control
After you have transported the film and set the shutter speed the
electric eye of the camera controls the diaphragm fully automatically.
The f-stop, selected by the electric eye according to the pre-set
shutter speed, ie visible on the green signal stripe (above the wedge-
shaped mark) in the viewfinder.
You can increase the exposure range by changing the ehutter speed.
Example: at a shutter speed of 7/l2s sec. the red eignal stripe
reaches the wedge marking in the viewfinder, indicating that the
light conditions are ineufficient for a correct exposure. Now set
the shutter epeed to l./60 or I/30 eec. and look agaiu into the
viewfinder. If the light is not too poor, the green stripe will be
visible and you can take the picture at the slower ehrrtter speed.View original page 14Page 15 · Read text
The depth-of.field range The depth-of-field comprises the zone from the foreground to the background of the picture which is sharply defined by the lens. This area varies according to the f-stop. To find the depth-of-field area for your pic- ture, check the f-stop number opposite the wedge in the viewfinder. When looking on the depth-of-field ring you will find the different f-stop numbers left and right to the distance setting mark. Your picture will be sharp within the range defined by the respectivo eimilar f-stop numbers. (The picture shows the depth-of-field zones for f-2,8 and f-B).View original page 15

As the next step lift film pressure plate up and pull lever of film
out far enough to be able to thread the end completely through
the elot of the take-up spool. Make eure that the film ie held by
notch in slot of take-up epool. To guarantee undisturbed transport
operation pueh rewind release button (16) in direction to the
rapid wind lever and turn take-up spool until the film ie tengi-
oned and both film perforations are engaged with sprocket wheel of
film transport. Swing back film pressure plate and replace camera back
by sliding it upwards and turn locking disc on baee until it stops.View original page 18Page 20 · Read text

lB The exposure counter
The exposure counter (1) reads backward ehowing always the
number of pictures remaining on your film. After film is inserted
and camera closed turn the blaek serrated dial in direction of
arrow until the setting mark next to number 36 is in the sparing
of the green disc. If you use a 20 exposure film line up the mark
next to number 20.
Now advance the film with one full etroke of the rapid winder
(I7). Then press releaee button (4) and advance film for one more
frame. Number 36 (or No. 20) on the film counter ie now in the
sparing of the green dise and your camera is ready for the first

1. advanees the film for one frame
2. cocke the shutter
3. advancee the film counter to the next lower number
4. puts the electric eye into operation
To do this correctly turn the rapid winder until it stops and let
it swing back.

22 Unloading of camera
As soon as number 1 ehowe up on the film counter the film ie
fully exposed. Before the film can be removed it has to be re'
epooled completely into the film cartridge. To do thie press rewind
releaee (16) in direction to the rapid wind lever and move rapid
rewind lever (14) in direction of the arrolv. Towarde the end of
the rewind operation a tension can be felt, which, when overcome,
showe that the film has been respooled completely into the car.
tridge. The camera back can now be removed and the exposed
film replaced by a freeh roll.View original page 24Page 25 · Read text
Rewind control 23 A ehort stroke of the rapid winder (17) lets the rewind release button (16) spring back into locking position. Now a Etrong tension can be felt when moving the ra- pid rewind lever (I4) *. If this tension does not show up, the film is most likely torn out of the cartridge and cannot be rewound. In this case the film can only be removed in a dark room (please ask your photo dea- ler to do thie for you). *) Before going on with rewinding press release button (16) down again.View original page 25

24 Control signal for film transport
To bave a control ae to whether the film ie being transported or
not a eignal (15) ie visible right above the rapid rewind lever on
the upper left eide of the camera. A small slot ehowe a black and
white signal disc uhich ehould rotate evenly while the film is being
transported. If the diec doee not rotate the film lvae not correctly
inserted and ie not being traneported.
Filters
The use of filters, mainly with black and white films will help
you to get better pictures in many caees. With the Paxette elec-
tromatic III you can uee all normal filters with a slip-on diameter
of 34 mm. The multiplication factor given for each filter muet be
taken into consideration by altering the film speed. For one factor
the film speed must be set back for 3 calibration linee on the
film speed scale.View original page 26Page 27 · Read text
Example: Yellow filter with multiplication factor 2:3 calihration linee back, e. g. instead of 40 ASA (170 DIN) to 20 ASA (140 DIN) Multiplicationfactor I : 0 calibrationlines Multiplication factor 1,5 : 2calibration linee Multiplicationfactor 2 3 calibrationlines -Do not forget to reset the correct film speed when you have finished shooting with a filter.
