  Plecse recd   it completety   io understcnd   the unique
   capcbilities   ol your tnstrument.
    There crre two opercrtlng  controls: ON/RESET,lor adi-
   vcting qnd zerolng the meter; and MEMORY, lor recall-
   lng in the dlsplcy  the current digitcrl light vclue.
   A two posttion  "turret" can be used to mecrsure inci-
  dent light on c high (HI) or low (tO) range. An cccessory
   turret lor relleded   llght, cs well  cts rncny other opticcrl
   cttcchments,  ccn be litted to the instrument.




   2. MODE OF LIGHT MEASUNEMENT
    A mark < A    I on the instrument  tndiccrtes the photo
   sensor loccrtion. For low (LO) rcnge  incident  light mecr-
   surement-s, mount the trcnsluscent white diflusing dome
   in the < A    I position.  For htgh  (HI) rcrnge incident  light
   mectsurements, mount  the dense white dome   in the
     t A    I position.   (If you purchcse  the reflected  light  tur-
    tet, mount the lens in the  ( n    ) position  - the other side
   ol the turret hcs c low rcngre dllfusing dome).
    To remove  or to rotcte  c  turret. loosen the thumb-
   screw.

      3. FILM SPEEDSETTING

       Mqrlers -appeat  on the  dlcls  representlng  incident              'd      tight                htgh  (HI) qnd low (LO) rcnge, crnd retlected
     tight   \Z    Note which  mode  (cbove)  you  hcve
     selected qnd  set the cppropriote  mqrker  to the  lilm
    speed, ASA or DIN, by rotcting  the smqll upper  dicrl.

     4. ON/RESETCONTROT

      Only  this control  (right  side  ol meter)  cctivctes  the
     instrument crnd resets the meter recding  to zero (displcy
-   shows "00"). The instrument  will automcrticclly  shut oll in
     qbout one minute  unless light  recdings  cre recorded.
    Each light recding  re-stcrts the one minute timer. There-
      fore. the meter  will  remcin  on  for qccumulated   flash
     reodings,  but'wilt  not qccidently  drcin  the bqtleries.


     5. MEMORY CONTROL
      Pressthis control  (lett side of meter) to displcy the digi-
      tcl light recding  currently stored in Calcu-Flash S. MEM'
   ORY clso  re-stqrts the one minute  timer  (lor cccumu-
     lated  flcsh meqsurements).

 6. TIGHT MEASUREMENTS

 Slnglo tlqrh  rccrdlngr
  Aim the meter qnd set the dials cccordingrto  sections
 2 and  3. Press ON/RESET.Fire the flosh unit wlth  its own
 trigger  switch. A digitol  recding   will be displcyed   lor
 <rbout one second.
  To recqll that recding,  press MEMORY. To take  cI new
reoding, press ON/RESETcnd  lire the llqsh cgcln.
  Next, loccrte the digitctl recrdout nurnber on the outer
dial  scale. The correct ccmerct f-number  lies on the
inner dicrl scqle, corresponding  to the digitcl  recrdout-
number.
  For e:cmple,  set ASA : 100 lor incident  light tow (tO)
rqnge. A digitcl recding ol'15'corresponds  to l/8.
  The dots between l-numbers qre  l/3 stops, The digitcl
recdings  ol Calcu-Flash S ctre ct sequence ot  I/3 stops
<rnd represent  qctucl   light  intensity.  All  scales or the
dials cre mcrrked with lines for whole stops cnd dots lor
I/3 stops.
  For qll  llcsh  and  liU-flash mecsurements,  a shutter
time  ol  l/60 second  is correct  lor the f-numbers
obtcined, When there is little continuous  light, qny shut-
ter time of L/60 or fqster will qlso be correct,
Accumulcled  llqrh  recdlngr
  For multiple  exposures you mcry cccumulcte  the total
llcsh power of q series ol flqshes. Press ON/RESET.Fire
the flash units repectedly,  but do not press ON/RESET
between  bursts. The digitcrl  recding   will  be the  totql
flqsh power. Read the dials cs described before.
  Be sure to count the number  ol bursts cnd  to qllow the
flash units to rechcrge  completely  between  bursts.
Repect the same procedure when tcking  the erposure.

  recdings  erceed  24, swltch to the high GD rctngre (inct-
  dent light  only) crnd repecrt the measurement,
    Calcu-Flash S ts lqsi enough  to ccrpture cuto-thryistor
  strobe bursts. However,  it  is useful  to remember  thct
  strobe  light  sensorc meqsure  reflected  light,  cnd  they
  crre sometlmes  "looled"  by the subiect's bcrckground.
  lncident  light recdings  with Cqlcu-Flqsh S qre more  reli-
  able qnd cccurcrte.

 8. BATTERIES

 When the bcrtteries ctre weck, two dots appear  inter-
mittcntly  cbove  the digits  in the displcy. When they
qppeqr continuously the bqtteries should be chcnged.
  Loosen the bcttery door screw with q coin. Hcndle the
new bqtteries with tissue pqper  to crvoid corrosion  ol the
contqcts.
  Cold tempercrtures  will sometimes cquse the bcttery
voltcge  to drop  temporcrily,  thereby  lighting  the
indiccrtors.
 When the instrument  will not opercrte, clecn  all bcrtter-
ies qnd  bcttery  contqcts cs most problems  cre cqused
by poor  electricql  connections.

  This qccessory provides  lor  liltered  tight  mecsure-
ments with  stqndcrd  photogrcphic   type  fllters. CFX-I
contcins  the 80B, 858, 25A, 8 and  4r  (neutrct  density)
lilters, All common   filter types qre  qdditionclly    crvail-
cble  sepcrrcrtely.

  This qccessory mecsures  rellected  light  vclues  ol  l/8
inch  (3 mm)  dicmeter  crrects on focusing  screens,
ground  glcss, light tclbles and other luminant  oblects.  It
serves crs c densitometer  lor negcrtives cnd  trcnspcren-
ctes with c resolution  of 0.1 density units.
