The Canon Speedlite430EX is a multi-featureflash unit for Canon EOS
cameras.lt works automaticallywith E-TTL ll, E-TTL,and TTL
autoflashsystems.lt can be used as an on-cameraflash or as part of a
wirelessflash system.
 r Read this instruction manualwhile also referring to your
   camera's instruction man ual.
   BeforeusingtheSpeedlite,readthisinstructionmanualandyourcamera's
   instructionmanualto familairizeyourselfwiththeSpeedliteoperations.
 r The basic operation is the same as with normal AE shooting.
  Whenthe430EXis attachedto an EOScamera,almostall automatic
  exposurecontrolfor flashphotographyis handledby the camera.
  Althoughthe430EXis an externalflashunit,it worksautomaticallyand
  seamlesslylikethecamera'sbuilt-inflash.
 r   lt is automatically compatible with the camera,s ftash metering
  mode (E-TTLll, E-TTL,and TTL).
  Thecameracontrolsthe Speedliteautomaticallyin thefollowingflashmetering
  modes:
   1.E-TTLll autoflash(evaluativeflashmeteringwithpreflashreading/lens
    distanceinformation)
  2.E-TTLautoflash(evaluativeflashmeteringwithpreflashreading)
   3.TTLautoflash(offthe-filmmeteringfor real-timeflashmetering)
Rdgardingthe camera'savailableflash meteringmodes,referto the
"ExternalSpeedlite"specificationin the "specifications"of your
camera'sinstructionmanual.The Speedlite'smajorspecificationsare
listedin "ExternalFlash ltems."
The camerainstructionmanual'schapteron flash photographywill refer
to camerashaving1 and 2 as a Type-A camera (compatiblewith E-
TTL ll or E-TTL).And camerashaving3 (compatiblewith only TTL) are
called Type-B cameras.

   UsingE-TTLll andE-TTLAutoflashin theShootingModesI
     Just set the camera'sshootingmode to <Av> (aperture-priorityAE),
    <Tv> (shutter-priorityAE), or <M> (manual)and you can use E-TTL
     ll/E-TTLautoflash.

          Selectthis modewhen you want to set the shutterspeed manually.
        The camerawill then automaticallyset the aperturematchingthe shutter
         speedto obtaina standardexposure.
    Tv  r   lf the aperturedisplayblinks,it meansthat the backgroundexposurewill
           be underexposedor overexposed.Adjustthe shutterspeed untilthe
             aperturedisplaystops blinking.
          Selectthis mode when you want to set the aperturemanually.
        The camerawill then automaticallyset the shutterspeed matchingthe
          apertureto obtain a standardexposure.
                  lf the backgroundis dark like a nightscene,a slow sync speedwill be used
            to obtaina standardexposureof both the main subjectand background.
         Standardexposureof the main subjectis obtainedwith the flash,while a
    Av standardexposureof the backgroundis obtainedwith a slow shutterspeed.                        I
                r  Sincea slow shutterspeedwill be usedfor low-lightscenes,usinga
              tripodis recommended.
                r   lf the shutterspeeddisplayblinks,it meansthat the background
           exposurewill be underexposedor overexposed.Adjustthe apertureuntil
             the shutterspeeddisplaystops blinking.
          Selectthis modewhen you want to set both the shutterspeedand aperture
          manually.
   M  Standardexposureof the main subjectis obtainedwith the flash.The
         exposureof the backgroundis obtainedwith the shutterspeedand aperture
         combinationyou set.
       *   lf you use the <DEP> or <A-DEP>shootingmode,the resultwill be tne same as
        usingthe <P> (ProgramAE) mode.

compensation.Flashexposurecompensationcan be set up to t3 stops
in 1/3-stopincrements.(lf the camera'sexposurecompensationis set in
1/2-stopincrements,flash exposurecompensationis set in 1/2-stop
increments.)

                         Set the flash exposure         2 compensation amount.

With high-speedsync,you can use flash with all shutterspeeds.This is
convenientwhen you want to use aperturepriorityfor fill-flashportraits.

  Bounce Flash
    By pointingthe flash head towarda wall or ceiling,the flash will bounceF
     off the surfacebeforeilluminatingthe subject.This can softenshadowsn    behindthe subjectfor a more natural-lookingshot.This is calledbounce
     flash.
    Set the Bounce Direction                                    *l    Holddownthe <PUSH> buttonand turn the flashhead.F        lf the flash coverageis set automatically,the flash coveragewill be set
     to 50mm.

       r You can also set the flash coveragemanually.

 About Golor Temperature Information Transmission
When the flash fires,the colortemperatureinformationis transmittedto
certainspecificEOS digitalcamera.This featureoptimizesthe flash
picture'swhite balance.When the camera'scolor balanceis set to
<Em>  ot <r>,  it will work automatically.
To see if this featureworks with your camera,see the "WhiteBalance"
specificationin the "specifications"of your camera'sinstructionmanual.

 Reverting to 430EX Default Settings
When43OEXis attachedto an EOS cameraequippedwith a <CLEAR>
button,you can press it to revertthe 430EX'ssettings(exceptCustom
Functions)to the default.

 About the AF-Assist Beam
Underlow-lightor low-contrastconditions,the builtin AF-assistbeam
will be emittedautomaticallyto make it eaasierto autofocus.The
430EX'sAF-assistbeam is compatiblewith the AF pointsof almostall
EOS cameras.The AF-assistbeam is compatiblewith 28mm and
longerlenses.The effectiverange is shown below.

Wireless Flash
With multipleCanonSpeedliteshavingthe wirelessflashfeature,you can
createvariouslightingeffectswiththe sameeaseas usingnormalE-TTLll
autoflash.
The settingsyou inputwiththe masterunitattachedto the cameraare also
transmittedto the slaveunit(s)controlledby wireless.Therefore,you need
not operatethe slaveunit(s)at all duringthe shoot.
For detailson wirelessflashphotographyand operatingthe masterunit,
see the masterunit'sinstructionmanual.The procedurebelowappliesto a
masterunitattachedto the cameraand slaveunit(s)controlledby wireless.

                        Set the master unit.         1  r  AttachSpeedlite580EX,550EX,ST-

                         cameraand set it as necessary.

 r Do not placeany obstaclesbetweenthe masterunit and slave
   unit(s).obstaclescan blockthe transmissionof wirelesssignals.

    + The Speedlite'szoom settingwill be set automaticallyto 24mm. lt is

       pressingthe master unit'stest firing button.

      more than 8 hours,it will not turn on even if you try to fire a test flash with
