Changing the magnification ratio, or workingSome Baslc Facts distance, makes it possible to produce different
effects and different fields of view. What this meansAbout Glose-Ifp can be clearly seen by examining the following
photographs, taken of the same coin at differentPhotography
distances and magnification ratios.
To Select Glose-Up Equlpment
Selection of close-up equipment sometimes
appears to be confusing due to the large quantity
available. But this is not the case. All that is needed is Life-Sizea standard to go by. First, determine what sort of
close-up photographs to take. This usually narrows
the range down considerably. Two things must be
considered here: the desired magnification ratios and
the distances at which the photographs are to be
taken. Once this is known, the selection of equipment
becomes extremely simple. Only the minimum
amount of equipment should be purchased at first.
Later, additions can be made as experience increases
and need arises.
For example, for photographs of small objects and
details of larger ones, close-up lenses or extension
rings may fill the bill perfectly. But larger
magnification ratios and closer working distances 1t10x 2X
may require a macro lens or bellows attachment.
Depth-Of -fleld In Gloee-Up
Photography
The extremely close working distances
encountered in close-up photography mean there is
very little depth-of-field. While this can be artistically
utilized for the isolation of points of interest, it can be
overcome when necessary by stopping down the lens
to a small aperture.
llagnlflcatlon Ratlo And
Worklng Dlstance 1/3X 3X
The two factors of magnification ratio and working
distance are inter-related, and are very important in
the field of close-up photography. And both are
controlled by the minimum focusing distance of the
equipment used, as well as by the type of lens. In
other words, the same magnification ratio could be
obtained at different distances with different
equipment.
