General Suggestions
of the small parts used on our No. 25 Railway Sewing and Rolling Machines are herein
illustrated, but if parts are required which are not shown, describe them as clearly as possible.
description cannot easily be given, either send us a sketch showing shape and dimensions, lay the part on
a piece of paper and mark around it, or use one of the circulars containing our illustration of the machine
and mark the part that is wanted, and where the part goes on the machine.
Modifications in the details of the Sewing Machines have been made at different times, and many
machines have been built withspecial attachments or arrangements of parts, so that parts shown in this
circular would not be applicable in all cases. Changes in some of the patterns have also been made
from time to time. As machines are built for many different widths of goods from 30" to 144" wide, the
arts used on different machines may be similar, but vary in weight and other details. Consequently as
full information as possible should be given in ordering repair parts.
In ordering pulleys and gears, it is always safest to give the diameter, width of face, number of teeth
and size of hole.
If there is a number or date stamped on our Curtis & Marble Machine Co. name plate on the
machine for which the parts are ordered, give us the number in ordering the parts, as it aids us very
orders correctly to know what machine the parts are for, and when that machine was
much in fillingthere is a number on the casting required, compare the casting number with the list of
parts and see if it corresponds, and specify this number in the order.
No list of parts will apply in all details to machines built at different periods for various widths of
goods, or when special modifications were made in the construction of the machine, but the parts herein
shown, will apply to the majority of our No. 25 Railway Sewing and Rolling Machines and we trust may
aid our customers in ordering parts for repairs. Many of the parts are also used on our other styles of
Sewing Machines.
On all orders state whether shipment is desired by freight, express or parcel post. Most of the
small parts for the Sewing Machine Heads are regularly shipped by parcel post.
operatingWe reckonthe machine.the right and left hand side of the machine when standing where the operator stands in
On some of our early No. 25 Railway Sewing and Rolling Machines, the cradles were made for hold-
ing a roll of cloth up to 15" in diameter, and had wooden slats in the bottom instead of wooden rolls.
If parts for the old style cradle with slats are wanted, so specify in the order.
The style of cradle regularly used for the last twenty years will receive a roll up to 18" diameter,
and has woodenrolls in the bottom. On a few machines a still larger cradle has been used to hold a
roll of cloth 22" diameter. Parts No. l and 2 on the enclosed list apply to the 18" cradle.
Some of our No. 25 Railway Sewing and Rolling Machines have been arranged with special brackets
at the rear with adjustable guides for making a roll of cloth up to 40" diameter. These special brackets
are not shown on the list of parts. A few machines for wide goods have been made with stationary forked
brackets at the rear and these likewise are not shown.
Some machines have been equipped withmeasuring rolls and dials to indicate the number of yards,
but none of the parts used for measuring attachments are included in the list of parts.
For holding light silk or other delicate goods clamps are used on somemachines in place of the
pins; these clamps are not shown in the list of parts, but are made to go in the same place as the pins
and are interchangeable with them.

The sectional cut shows the feed gearing for our Singer Sewing Machine heads as arranged with slide and
way, together with the names of the component parts,— it the above names are given in ordering any of these
parts we will understand clearly what is wanted. Many of these same parts are shown also in the list of parts
which follows, but this cut shows more clearly the names and position of these parts in relation to each other.
All of our Railway Sewing Machines are regularly arranged for & stitches to the inch, though some machines
on heavy, coarse work like burlap, etc., have been arranged for 6 stitches to the inch. The worms on the looper

specify in the order, otherwise worms and worm gears for 8 stitches will be sent.
On our No. 20 Foot Power Rotary Sewing Machine with Singer Head, the worms and the worm gears are all
alike, and are same as those used on the Railway Sewing Machines for & stitches to the inch, though owing to the
arrangement of gearing that drives the cloth wheel, the No. 20 Rotary Machines make 6 stitches to the inch.
