tENS-DIAPHNAGM
An explanation of the purpose and operation of the lens
diaphragm will help you in obtaining finer results. Vjth
the diaphragm set to the largesr opening (smallest numeri:
cal "f" value), the lens will pass the maximum amount of
l_ight. Each successive smaller srop or diaphragm opening
f4,i, i.6,8, l l, 1d, and zzl limiti the niht by one-half. As the diaphragm is closed greater"*onntlfdepth of focus
is secured. At all times it is advisable to work with the
smallest lens opening permissable in order ro get the greatesr
depth of focus possible. It must be remembered that in
photographing moving objects, higher shutter speeds are
necessery'to srop motion, ro prevent blurred images. Thus,
it follows,- that for moving objects, larger lens openings
(smaller numerical f. values) and higher shutter rpeeds aie
necessary.
         TIME AND BULB EXPOSURES
Scenes in poor light ourdoors and most scenes indoors
require time exposures ro properly expose the film. In mak-
ing exposures that require more rhan t/zs second, it is
imperative that the camera be placed on a tripod or some
solid supporr to prevenr it from moving and thus blurring
the picture. Provision is made for a cable release and foi
standard tripod mounting. The shutter speeds can be varied
by moving the control located at the rop of the lens assem-
bly unit.
