Dear EDTXAFLEXOwner,
Although we con ossumethot you ore fomilior with the Edixoflex,we think it will
help you if we review its feotures once ogoin. The EDIXAFLEXis o single-lens
reflex comerq which hos one lens thot serves for
viewing ond focusing, ond for recording the imoge
on film.
The occomponying diogrom illustrqteshow the light
roys reflected from the subiect to be photogrophed
enter the lens, ore then deflected by the mirror ond
ore directed on to the ground-gloss screen; where
they show o true imoge of the subiect. This picture
con then be focused shorply on the ground gloss
screen, ond you con orronge its composition.During
exposure the mirror moves upwords permitting fhe
beom of light to reoch the film directly through the
slit in the focol plone shutter ond thus expose the
fifm. The ground gloss screen is interchongeoble.

In its ploce, speciol screensfor q voriety of purposes (e. g. split-imoge rongefinder) moy be used. For viewing the screen imoge you hove the choice of two removoble ond interchongeoble viewfinder systems: the wqist-level finder (light hood finder) or the eye-level pento-prism finder. The comero hos o focol plone shutter consisting of two rubberized curtoins, one- trovelling behind the other, in front of the film plone. The exposure time is deter- mined by the width of the slit between the two curtoins ond by the ropidity of their movement. According fo your choice, speeds from r/rooosec. to 1/zssec. ond B (time exposures)moy be set. A very speciol ond odvontogeous feoture of the EDIXAFLEXis thot it permits you to use o wide selection of lenses. Therefore, you con select the lens mosi suitoble for your purpose, ond interchongeit of ony time: (e. g.stondord, wide- ongle, telephoto, or other speciol lenses). Moreover, yoU con buy qnother Edixo comero body only, without o lens, ond without o finder, for use os q second comero, so thot you moy hove ot your disposol two comeros looded with block-ond- white film in one comero, ond with color film in the other. All Edixo viewfinders ond lenses con be removed ond interchonged of ony time, even when the comero is looded with film. In the poge to follow, we will exploin how to use the comero ond qccessories properly. lt is to your own interest to study this booklet before you shoot your first roll of pictures. 4View original page 5

The film tronsport lever (8) must be
wound fully until, upon releose, it

However, if lhe lever stops holf-woy while winding the film, ond connot

T E N S E S o) Dislonce setting ond focusing. Generolly, the distonce between comero ond subiect is either iudged or meqsured in order to obtoin the highest degree of definition. With ihe EDIXAFLEXthis vitol funcfion is performed by the ground-gloss screen. The imoge, formed by the toking lens ond deflected on to the ground-glossscreen vio the mirror, is brought into shorp focus by turning the distonce setting ring on the lens mount. Since the correct odiustment of the ground-glossscreen is mode in the foctory it will render o shorp imoge no mqtter which type of finder or lens is used. The "through- the-lens focusing" is done of full operture becouse the finder imoge is then of its brightest. ln this connection we should olso mention the "depth of field". The lens forms o shorp imoge of oll obiectswhich con be thought of os lying in zones porollel to the focol plone. These zones become deeper the further their distonce from thc comero or the more the lens is stopped down. This con eosily be studied on the ground-gloss screen. Estoblishingor meosuring the extent of the depth of field is done by meons of the depth of field scole engroved on every lens mount. However, very interestingphotogrophic effects con be obtoined by intentionolly creoting zones of unshorp definition os, for inslonce, in portroiture, where it is often desiroble to hove the foce stonding out shorply ogoinst blurred bockground. The imoge on the ground-gloss screen is viewed either with the unqided eye or 1 8View original page 19

through the mognifier of the woist level finder which will give o 4x mognificolion of
thol section of the imoge visible in lhe mognifier. When using the prism finder lhe
entire imoge field will oppeor mognified.
b) Selting lhe Aperlure
For setting lhe operture use the operfure setting ring on which ore engroved the
individuol f/numbers (stops).The effect of
opening ond closing the operture con be
studied on the ground-glossscreen which
will show the imoge ot moximum bright-
ness when the operture is fully open but
on stoppingdown will show on oppreciqble
dorkening.While studying the effect of
stopping-down,the depth-of-field ronge
olso becomesqppqrentto o certoinextenl.
The use of lenseswith either pre-sel dio-
phrogms or outomotic spring diophrogms
moke operture settings much eqsier. The
exoct functions of these lenses ore des-
cribed in the chopter on "lens systems".

thot the toking posifion of the comero depends on lhe type of finder used. When
fitted with the woist level finder, the comero is held ot obout chest-level so thot you
hove o good view of the imoge on ihe ground gloss screen.According to your eye-
sight, the comero should be held ot o level permittingyou to criticollyfocus the imoge
on the screen. When using the mognifier, which mokes fine focusing much easie.r,the
comero is held close to the eye. Both woys of holding the comero ore suitoble for
toking upright pictures,o method by which you shoot, so to speok,"round the corner".
This is excellent for condid shots, especiolly since your subiect, deceived by your not
looking in his direction, often provides you with the most lively ond unposed
pictures. You con olso hold your EDIXAFLEXhigh obove your heod focusing on the
screen from below, when you wont to toke pictures qcross obstocles, such os the
crowd of sporting events, etc.
The pento-prism viewfinder, the speciol uses ond odvontoges of which we hove
olreody pointed out, permits holding the comero in "snopshot" position of eye-level
ond is on essentiolprerequisitefor ropid-sequenceoction shots ond sports pictures.
When toking horizontol or verticol pictures one eye is used to look into the prism
finder while the other moy either be closed or opened for wotching the subiect. For
toking horizontol photos, the comerq con olso be used in on inverted position so thot
the smooth comero bock gives odditionol support when it is pressed ogoinst the
foreheod (to prevent comero shoke). - Whotever type of viewfinder is used, the
comero should be held comfortobly ond without stroin. lt is entirely up to you which

removing the comero from the eye.
