www.butkus.us HOW TO ADJUST LENS OPENINO AND SHUTTER SPEED

To adjust desirable shutter speed and lens opening, use the shutter speed
dial and iris diaphragm respectively.
The lens opening (f-opening) is set by turning the iris diaphragm scale to
a desired stop. The figures on the scale indicate the relative lens opening
of the lens (fig. 2l). Shutter speed is set by turning the lever to the desired
speed on the dial (fis. 22).

Use over-lap type cable release after detaching the body release protection
ring by unscrewing it.
Bulb Exposure: If exposure time longer than I second is desired, adjust
shutter to the indication " B " on the dial. When set to " B ", the shutter
remains open during the period the shutter release button is pressed down.
When bulb exposure is desired, it is recommended that a tripod be used.
If a longer period of time for exposure is required, use cable release with
locking device.

I DEPTH OF FIELD SCALE
  I
The range of Depth of Field lies between the two identical lens opening
figures provided on both sides of the Distance Index Mark.i I When the lens is focused sharply on a focus of attention, there is a finite
range of sharpness extending to the foreground as well as to the background
1 of this focused distance which is within the range of focus.
This range of sharpness is known as the Depth of Field of the lens and
depends on the relative lens opening and the distance to the subject focused
F upon. The smaller the opening the greater will be the Depth of Field for
   i
 l a given distance.
