O OPENING AND CLOSING OF REAR DOOR
The opening and closing of the rear door requires special care to ensure adequate sealing. Therefore
before opening the back door, be sure the camera is completely dry and clean, if not wash the camera
with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth. To open the rear door it is recommended that the camera
be placed on its back (front of camera upper-most) so that any residual moisture or particles of sand etc.
will not fall into the inside of the camera. Turn the rear door locking knob (1) anti-clockwise to align
the word "Open" with the position indicator (2) then the rear door (3) will have lifted slightly, and can
now be completely opened.
Before closing the rear door, care-
fully check the surface of the O-
ring (4) and mating surfaces of
body and rear door for scratches,
dust, water drops etc., then close
the door by setting the locking
knob to the position marked
"Close" and whilst holding the
door firmly closed against the
_z body, turn the locking knob clock-
wise to the "Lock" position.

NOTES: 1. Do not open rear door if there is any possibility of water and/or sand etc., entering the camera. 2. See also Section "Unloading Film" 3. See also section "Rear Door '0' ring replacement and lubrica- tion" 2 4. The camera is designed to with- stand water pressures down to depths of 45 metres (150 feet) maximum. O BATTERY INSTALLATION Open the rear door and insert two *AA Alkaline batteries into the battery compartment (5) as shown by the inside diagram. When inserting batteries place the battery removal Pull-tag (6) underneath the batteries so that the inner battery can be easily removed by pulling the tag up. * Use only ALKALINE Batteries.View original page 6

O LOADING FILM (35MM COLOUR OR BLACK AND WHITE)
Open the rear door and set film speed as directed under
"FILM SPEED SETTING" then pull down the film
chamber door latch (7) and swing open the door (8),
insert the film cassette into the film chamber (9), if it
does not fit easily rotate the lower end of the film
cassette axle slightly so that the rewind dog (t0) can
engage with the f ilm cassette spool.
Pull out the tip of the film from the cassette and set the
wind-rewind setting lever (12) to the "R" position so that
the take-up spool will move freely to easily position the
slot (1 1 ) f or inserting the f ilm tip.
Reset the W-R setting lever to "W"
position, unlock shutter lever (13) and
depress once, then the f ilm will advance
one frame-length and stop automatically.

Check the tip of the film is wound around the take-up spool and one of the lower perforations of the film is securely engaged with a claw (14) located at lower rim of the take-up spool. Close both the f ilm chamber door (double check "FILM SPEED SETTING") and the rear door as previously described, and depress and release shutter lever (13) until f igure "1" appears in the f ilm counter (15). . FILM SPEED SETTING The lso/DlN speed of the film is specified on the film box. This camera accepts films with speeds lso 100.200 and 400 (DlN 21" , 24" and 27" ). Set the film speed setting lever (1 6) to the speed index as requrred.View original page 8

O ON.LAND PICTURE TAKING
1. Exposure setting
The exposure setting dial has eight positions and as you rotate the dial you will feel clicks at each
position. The last two anti-clock positions are for switching on the built-in flash. These positions should
be used only for flash picture taking (see Section on Flash Picture Taking).
Beside the viewfinder eyepiece (17) three exposure display lights are
located. The LH side red light (18) marked with (-) is for low light
warning (under exposure), the centre green light (19) is for "OK
shooting" and also for "flash ready" and the RH side red light (20)
marked {+) for over exposure warning.
To check light conditions face the camera to the subject and with
shutter lever unlocked and exposure control dial (21 ) set to say "5.6",
depress slightly (otherwise the shutter will be prematurely released
before confirming the light conditions) the shutter release lever to
check if the subject is bright enough. lf it is, the centre green light will
glow then pictures can be taken.
www.butkus.usView original page 9Page 10 · Read text
lf, however, the subject is too dark the LH side red light will glow and the exposure control dial (21)
then requires turning anti-clockwise until the centre green light glows, then pictures can be taken.
Alternatively, if the subject is too bright the RH side red light will
glow and the exposure control dial (21) requires turning clockwise
until the centre green light glows, then pictures can be taken.
BEFORE SHOOTING NON-FLASH PICTURES ALWAYS ADJUST
EXPOSURE CONTROL UNTIL GREEN LIGHT GLOWS.
2. Focusing
The lens can be focused on subjects from 1 metre (3 feet) to
infinity. Estimate the distance between the subject and the camera
by eye, and set the distance scale l22l to thedistance indicator dot
(23).
Subjects further away than 5 metres (17 feet) from the camera can
be considered as inf inity.

3. Composing a Picture in the Finder
After having adjusted the exposure and focus setting, look through the viewf inder (25) and compose the
subject in the full frame of the viewf inder.
4. Shutter releasing
Fully depress the shutter lever to take the picture. The shutter is released and the film then
automatically advanced by the built-in motor as you release the lever to its uppermost position.
To avoid accidental picture taking, it is recommended to turn the
shutter lock dial (26) to lock position after having taken the picture.
5. Flash Picture Taking
When taking pictures in poor light conditions check if the flash is
needed by observing the LH side red indicator beside the viewf inder as
explained in Section "ON-LAND PICTURE TAKING - 1. Exposure
Setting".
For best results ensure the subject is kept within the correct flash distance (too close - over exposed,
f ilm speed in use, together with atoo far - under exposed) which should bewww.butkus.usdecided according to thetable listed below:View original page 11Page 12 · Read text

O UNDER WATER PICTURE TAKI NG
There are two major differences between underwater and on-land photography:
a. distance
b. light
a. Distances
Because the refractive index of water is different from that of air, the subject under water appears to be
closer and larger than it really is, fortunately the camera lens also "sees" the subject closer and larger,
therefore proceed to focus the camera by estimating the distance exactly the same as the instructions
for on-land picture taking, and do not make actual measurements.
b. Light
The light conditions under \/ater are invariably much darker than those on-land it is recommended to
always use f lash. The proper flash distances can be obtained from the table below:

O REAR DOOR 'O' RING REPLACEMENT AND LUBRICATION.
The 'O' ring (No. 4 lN THE DESCRIPTION SECTION) needs meticulous care and attention to ensure
trouble-free operation operation underwater. The following notes are for your guidance.
a) Remove the 'O' ring after each diving session or f ield operation. Do not use sharp tools for this pur-
pose, remove only with your f ingers.
b) Clean the REAR DOOR'O'ring seat of all grit and thegrease residue which may retain particles.
c) Clean the 'O'ring (DO NOT STRETCH!) and examine for cuts or abrasions. lf the surface of the
'O'ring is impaired - REPLACE!
d) When the 'O' ring is clean, a very fine f ilm of silicone grease should be applied. First extrude a small
amount of the grease onto your finger and then apply to the'O'ring so that no excess grease is
apparent.
