I Focusingthe Camera
Focusing is taken f rom the small round area in the
centre of the view-finder screen. The in ner circle is
a split image range-finder and is surrounded by a

image horizontally. When the two halves are broug ht

obtained. The outer microprism conveys a broken,

l$ oeeth-of- Field
When the camera is focused at certaindistance, there
are the rangesfor taking the subjectsclearly in the
pictUreon both sidesof the distance. This ranges'are
calledthe "depth-of-field'.'
Thereare followingrelationshipsin the depth of field:
1. When the apertureis reduced(2 to 16),the depth
of field is increasedto increasethe rangesfor taking
the sceneclearlyin the picture.
2. When takingfarther scene, the depth of field is
increasedlonger.
3. Wider anglelensof short focal lengthprovideslonger
depthof field. Fig.27
4. The rear range f rom the focused distanceof the
camera provideslonger depth of field than the front
range from the distance.
You can know the depth of field as below.
1. A depth-of-fieldscaleis engravedon the respectivelenses.When the camerais,for example,
focusedon a subjectat the distance,e.9.,3m with the aperture set at f/8, the subjects
locatedwithin8 at both sidesof the "1" mark (approx 2m in the front range and approx.5m
in the rear range)are sharp and clear.

16 INFRARED RAY MARK
The short red line on one side of the datum mark is
the infra-redray mark, which is used to correct the
focusingwhen'usinginfra-redfilm and filters.The
infra-redray has a longer wave length than the
visiblelight range,therefore,the focusingis displaced
beingindicatedby a short red line.
InfrrRed Photography
1. Attachan infra-redfilterto the camera.
2. Focusthe lens usingthe red line.
3. Set the exposureaccordingto the descriptionon
the film and releasethe shutter.
It is probableis imposibleto focus the camera
with the infra-redfilter in position.Eitherfocus with
the filter removedand then replaceit or use the Fig.28distancescale.
