The quick releose hondle flosh heod is equipped with o stondord

sockel in the power pock. Be sure the switch is in "off " position.
Plug the shutter cord into the sockel provided on the bock of the
flosh heod. You will note the plug is polorized so it fits in ihe
socket only one woy, which insures correct polority of the connec-
tion to your comero. On some comeros hoving two pins or two
holes ihot connect to the fitting on

lorizing your unil. In this cose the

To obtoin the f. setting, simply divide thc distonce in feer into
the guide number for your film.
Thus, if you use Kodochrome ond ore l0r owoy from the subiect,
divide l0 into the guide number for Kodochrome which ronges
between 70 ond 80 ond you come up with f .7 or f .8. The lower
guide number should be used where there is little reflect.ivity of
subiect ond bockground ond the higher guide number only under
conditions giving higher ref lectivity or bounce light. Thus in o
dork-colored room you would use f .7 ond in o light-colored room
where the subiect is neor o woll you would use f.8. Guide numbers
lower os the subiect moves out into the center of o room (rother
thon ogoinst o woll) os in this cose you do not get the full benefit
of the light becouse of lock of reflectivity. lf you toke o few test
shots, keeping o record of the f . setting ond distonce, you con
estoblish your own guide numbers thot give you the type picture yo.u
prefer ond from then on you con toke pictures knowing the result
will be consistent.
Since mony of thc block ond white filrt ond color films ore used
ot other thon the monufocturers recommended ASA speeds ond os it
is olso impossible to keep o listing on oll types of films, we ore
listing below the guide numbers to be used with vorious ASA film
speeds. These guide numbers ore only listed os o storting poilt
since there will- be quite o voriotion-coused by bounce light off
wolls ond ceilings. Also some speed voriotions will be noted on
some films ond developers due to reciprocity foilure of the films
due to short durotion of the flosh. This lowering of the guide
number con usuolly be compensoted for increosed developmenl.
