lntroduction The Auto/Strobonar 220 gives you perfectly exposed flash pictures without any calcu- lations or guesswork. You don't have to worry about distances, changing flashbulbs, or having a supply of flashbulbs on hand. Just make one initial setting on your camera for the film you're using. Then, you can take pictures as close as 2 feet or as far away as 13 feet. The built-in computer figures out how much light your subject needs and delivers precisely the right amount for perfect exposure automatically. ' With your new computer flash, you can take pictures in a variety of situations. lts ex- tremely fast f lash duration stops action that is unstoppable with f lashbulbs, such as sports events, children playing, etc. Because of this speed, it eliminates blurred pictures due to camera or subject movement, giving you crisper, sharper pictures. The Auto/Strobonar is two electronic flash units in one. In automatic mode, you're free to concentrate on your subject for that perfect moment without hesitating to determine exposure. Using the Auto/Strobonar in manual mode glves you all the advantages of a regular electronic flash. Use it in manual mode for such techniques as flash fill-in and bounce flash. What the Auto-Manual Control does

from your subject and turns the flash tube off when your subject is properly exposed. All
you do is set the lens opening (f/stop)of your camera for the film you're using.
In manual mode, use the calculator to determine exposure. Use manual mode for such
techniques as bounce flash and flash fill-in.

Your Auto/Strobonar is designed to operate with cameras having Ouift-in 'i" flash con- tacts. lf your camera has a between-the-lens shutter with X conticts, it will synchronize at all shutter speeds. lf your camera has a focal plane shutter, it will synchronize only at slower speeds, depending on the camera. To determine at what shutter speeds your camera is properly synchronized for use with electronic flash, refer to your camera in-struction manual or consult your dealer.View original page 8

How to have fun with action-stopping
One of the amazing features of your
Auto/Strobonar is the way its fantastic
speed freezes motion with great clarity.
Such subiects as rotating machinery, a
child jumping rope, and other subjects in
continuous motion can be photographed
in the normalway.
Shots such as breaking a light bulb with
a hammer or hitting a golf ball require a
simple, improvised switching device to trig-
ger the flash with the camera shutter al-
ready open.
In each of the pictures on this page, shots were made from close range (about 2 feet)
with the camera shutter set to bulb. The shutter was held open with a shutter release
cable. With the shutter open, the ball or bulb was hit which closed the improvised switch
and flashed the Auto/Strobonar. For further information, write Customer Services, P.O.

How to take care of your Auto/Strobonar
Like all power sources for electronic f lash, your Auto/Strobonar has an energy storage
capacitor. When the unit is not used for several weeks, the storage capacitor "deformsi'
which means it loses some of its capacity to store electrical energy. The longer the time
between uses, the more "deformed" the capacitor becomes. In a sense, it goes dead and
needs"reforming" to put it in eff icient operating condition. A deformed storage capacitor
causes longer recycle time for the f irst few f lashes and loss of battery power.
lf your Auto/Strobonar has been used infrequently or has not been used for about
30 days, reform the storage capacitor as described below:
1. Slide the ON-OFF-FLASH switch to on.
2. Fire off a few f lashes by depressing the FLASH switch, waiting about 15 seconds be-
tween flashes.
IMPORTAN f: To keep your Auto/Strobonar at peak operating eff iciency, perform steps
1 and 2 at least once every 30 days. Your Auto/Strobonar thrives on frequent use. Use
it often.
NOTE: lf you are in a hurry, reform the storage capacitor by using your Auto/Strobonar
in your photographic situation. Just remember that your recycle time will be longer for
the first few flashesView original page 15Page 16 · Read text
