lhis film porlion keep turning again until number 2 appears in lhe
Upper window, and proceed in lhe same manner as described
unlil the 16th exposurc has been made.
The ingenious arTangemenlof lwo film wlndows makes it possible
lo expose firsl one-half of a film section when ihe prinled number
becomesvisible in lhe lower window and lhen lhe other half after
moving lhe number up so as lo appear in lhe lop wlndow.
In comeros for lsking 2tlzxlrle" (4><6.5 cm) pictures
only one film window is provided. When a small hand or an alTow
oppears and indicales the approadr of the.first number, lurn slowly
and slop as soon as number 1 becomesvislble in lhe wtndow, whidr
means that the first film is ready for exposure. After exposurc con'

Ghonging the film. Make it a habit lo
lurn the film key b afler eadr exposure in lhe
direclion of the arrow unlil the nexl number
appcars in the wtndow (compare what has been
said on pages 4 & 5) to indicale thal a new
film is_ready for exposure. After eighl ."por,rr",
have been made with lhe 2rlzxIsls" size and
sixleen wilh lhe 16/sxlrlt' size continue lo
lurn lhe film-winding key b until the proleclive
paper of the film cannot be seen any more in
lhe little red wind_ow (in the 15/s><lt[t" size the
lop one). Then the badr of lhe cameia can be
removed as in loading and lhe fitm laken oul.
For thispurpose lhe small bolt m (Fie. e) opp;-
sile the film-winding key in lhe body is depressed-lo
slightly whereby lhe full spool is iaised facl-
litale ils removal. During ils removal the full
exposed film spool should be held losether bv
pressing it slighlly lo prevenl it from uriwindin6.
Seal it tighlly wilh the label furnished wilh eijr
spool and keep il until it is time lo develop.

The Diophrogm. - As lhe annexed direclions for operaling lhe
shulter indicate, evcry shuller is provlded with a diaphragm or slop
whidr can be reduced or enlarged at will. Iusl a few words aboul
how slops are used. If tt is inlended lo lake a piclure in whidr an
obiect in lhe foreground and the badrground with houses, moun-
lalng, lrees, &c. appear equally sharp, a stop is needed. By means
of a small lever menlloned In the directions lhe diaphragm can be
closed more or less lo oblain a beller depth of focus. The rule ls:
lhe rmaller the dlapbragm, lhe grealer lhe depth of focur
and thc longer lhe cxpo3ure. Snapshols reqrgre larger dia-
phragnrs and lime exposures smaller ones.

Fxposures on plotes. when uslng plales, lhe mask inslde lhe

g-round-glassfocussing screcn is lhen subsliluled for the slide with

and a dark slide conlaining a plale placed inslead in lhe rails. Thi

The shutlers besl sulled for our Parvola Camera are brief,y des-
cribed below:
The 5.- Pronlo shutler shown ls of lhe BC aulo-mallc_lype, thal ls, tl is always ready and
need nol be sel for normal work. Furlhermore,
E the shuller is fitted with a self-relcase whldr
enables you lo photofraph yourself as des-
cribed laler. Exposure ls made by depres-
sing lhe finger release A or, if prefirred, the
wire release whidr can be screwed in lo lhe
small nut B.
D If longer llme cxposurc3 are desired, adJust
the lever C so that the letter Z snaps lnlo
the notdr. The shuller will now open by pressure on the release
and remain _open unlil a second pressuie lakes place. When lhe
release has been pressed afler thC shutter is set io z, lhe litter is
opened for long time cxponrres as is oflen required lorhdoor work.

pressed down now, the shutter wtll open bul close again as soon
as lhe pressure ccascs so lhal both very shorl or tong exposurcs
can be made.

a secondi 25, for example, means l/sr; 5O, t/ro; and lOO V1s0sec.According to the lime of exposure ascertainedlone of the#"ihrec

indicales lhe_speeddesired. Then depresslhe finger or wire ielease,
whereupon lhe shuller wlll open, remaln open for the lime sel, and
close again automalically. The exposure is now made.
Self-Relecse. - To lake a picrure of oneself, screw lhe camera
lo a sland or put it on a table or the like lurning down the small
lupporl as described. Then droose one of lhe instanlaneousspeeds

lhe shutter is sel by means of the small red lever E whidr is pressed
to lhe rlght. Release is effected as under normal conditibns by
d-epressingt_hefinger or wlre release, the self-releasereleaslng tht

After the release of the shulter lhe lalter is sel agaln for normal
Gxposurcsand has lo bewound again before eadr self-porlrall is made.
The Diophrogm Scole will be found below lhe lens. A small
poinler D can be displaced fo the rtght and left and easily set lo
lhe correct diaphragm in eadr case.
A D c The Prontor ll shutter shown here can be
used in different ways. For exposure, eilher I
lhe small lever A ls pressed down or a wire
release screwed into lhe nul B.
All exposures require previous selllng of the
shuller by pushing the lever D to the left be-
fore release is possible.
For llme cxporurcr of longer durallon \
E lurn lhe milled disc C. so that the red mark
is opposile lhe leller T. Pressure upon lhe
release causes opening of the shuller whidr closes only afier a
second piressure, so lhal lime exposurcs of unlimiled duralion can
be made. For rhorl lime cxporurer sel the disc wirh the red
mark lo B. A slight pressure applied to the shuiler will open if,
the shutter remaining open unlil lhe pressure cepies. In this woy,
very short as well aJ longer exposurcs are positble.
For lnrlanlaneoul and sbort llme cxporurcf of definite du-
ralion sel lhe disc lo lhe corresponding speed as indicated by
one of the numbers. 1 is equal to 1 second, 2 lo ,lr, 5 to 116,
1o lo l[s sec., elc. Set the poinler to one of lhese figureq according
lo the time of exposure desired, and press lhe. release, the shutler
of course having been previously set. The shutter will lhen open,
remain open for the lime desired, and close agaln aulomallcally.
For inslanfaneous speeds lhe delaycd llme me&anfrm (auto-
malic release) can be employed. After lensioning sel lhe lime de-
slred and depress lhe red lever F. When lhe release is then pressed
lhe medranism delays lhe release of lhe shutlcr so lhat the aclual
cxposure is delaycd for a few seconds. The shuller is lhen sel

again for normal work withoul delayed release, and eodr furlher
aclualion of lhe delayed medranlsm requires renewed lensioning
of the red lever F.'

Time Exposures: The shulter need nol be sel For longer-al lime

point marked. Pressure on the finger release A or on ihe wire
release will open the shulter whidr remains open until lhe release
is. pressed again. In case of lime exposures of shorler duralion the
Ietter B is moved to the marked point, and when the n"gli ,"ieas.-remainA
or the wire release is pressed, lhe shutter wilt open-u"a
open as long as lhe pressure lasls. This proceduie is followed if
exposures exceed 1 second.
Instontoneous Exposures 3 For inslanlaneous and shorl lime

The Cbmpur shuller is conslrucled so that tf lhe lelfers T and B arc on lhe Index llne, lhe lension lever D is lodred, and in case of speeds rangtng from 1 second lo maximum, lhe tlme medranism (T-B) is disen- gaged, an arrangemenl whidr prevenls failures even if the camera ls handled carelessly. The speeds increase wilhoul inlerrupllon from 1 second lo 1/roosec., and lt is posstble lo oblarn lntermediale speeds by setling belween two figures, (for example, belween 1/6s and 1[s6:rlzr sec.). No inlermediaie speeds are possible belween r[sg and maximum speed (tlzw, tlzw, t/aoo) or belween B and I second. For maximum speeds arrange the lime before seltlng lhe shuller, as ll will be hardly posslble afler selling. Deloyed oction Releose applles only lo shullers whtdr arc fitled wllh an advance medranism and the butlon F. If you wlsh lo appcar in the picture lo be laken, sel lhe shutler as described ond push badr lhe knob F localed on the edge, whereby additional lensloning of the lever D ls made possible and lhe aulomalic release will be sef. Release lakes place In the regular way by depressingg lbe lever A or lhe wire release, whereupon lhe aulomalic release will operale lhe shutler in aboul 12 seconds and exposure be made according to lhe lime set. The shuller is now sel again for normal 'aswork, and ll is necessary lo proceed described if one wlshes lo lake a piclure of oneself. Directions for use
In column A look for lhe monlh and hour rerpecling the exposurc
concerned. In column El you find the number for lhe obiect to be
pholographed or for the subiecl conccrned, ln table C the number
for lighting, in table D lhe number for fhe senstlivily of the film,
and in column E the number of aperlure. The sum of lhese figures
slales in table F lhe lime of exposure*.
Exomplc: To make an cxposure al 11 o'clo& A. M. in May of a
slreel of medlum wtdlh at sltghtly clouded sky on a normally sensttlve
film of OfN al a diaphraglm openlng of F/8, one wtll find: S
