The 4x5 VIEW CAMERA IKEDA
Mount the camera on the tripod as illustrated in photo 1.
There is a tripod socket in the meta! base plate of the lkeda.
Loosen the two knobs holding the side tilt strut on each side
of the camera. Pull the meta! latch away from the camera body
and raise the camera back. Photo 2 shows the back being raised.
Photo 3 shows the back in a vertical position. The side screws
should be in the detent in the side struts and the knobs should
be tightened.
Li~ the front standard of the camera and push it forward as
in photo 4. Continue pushing the front standard forward until
the pair of screws close to the camera base lock into the detent
in each front tilt strut. Tighten this pair of screws.
There is a metal tab on the bottom of each of the slotted
metal plates of each side of the camera front. Place these tabs 5
into the opening in the bottom of the meta! tracks on each
side of the camera front. Raise the front standard as shown in
r.~~t\5~t:.~=~~;.tit,a~r,;; 5__°;;':1:,ti~e~„~~:.~~~;~1f;~ ;:~,t!~~!
and lower the front standard.
Please note that the top pair of screws controls the rise and
fall of the lensboard and the bottom pair of screws controls the
front tilts. The two pair of small knobs at the front of the
movable inside focusing track control the front swings.
With the lkeda it is possible to focus the front or the back.
Photo 6 shows the movable camera track being racked forward.
The knobs visible at the very front and rear of the camera base
ore lock knobs for the focusing track and must be loosened.
The large knobs in identical positions on the other side of the
camera base are the focus knobs. Although there are two
focusing knobs, in this position focusing is being done by the
front knob.
To focus shorter or wide angle lenses use the rear focus knob
and rack toward the camera back as shown in photo 7. While
focusing check occasionally to make sure that the focusing
lock knobs are loosened.
The photos show the model with the gear drive for focusing ·
the back swings. The focus knob is the plain knob at the base
of the back side struts and the lock knob is the knob with the
cap nut that slides in the slotted track on the side of the camera
base. The model without the gear drive is identical except it
has only the knob with the cap nut. This knob is loosened and
the focus is adjusted manually. Then the knob is tightened.
  Photo 8 sl.ov. the camer.i being prepared f :>r closing. Make
sure that the inside focusing track is flush ·,yith the camera
base. Also, be : ire that the back is as far to the reer as it will
go and the front as far forward as it will go. See that the Jens
standard is square to the front and not in fl swing position.
Loosen both pairs of nuts on the camera front and disengage
the metal tabs. Tip the front standard back as shown. Be sure
that the top pc;ir of screws on the lens standard is loosened
sufficiently so they will slide easily in the slotted track. Fold
the front standard into the camera base as in photo 3. Then,
close the camera.
Please proceed slowly until you become familiar with the
camera. The knobs and locking mechanisms are virtually hand-
made and engage positively. So, it is never necessary to use
undue force to tighten them; 'finger tight' is all that is required.
1 hope that the camera affords you many years of enjoyment.
lf you have any questions or comments, 1 would be very glad
to hear from you. And, 1 would li~e to thank you personally for
your patronage. 8 Lee Beeder
