You will enjoymanytrouble-freeyearsof use when you followthesesimple
step-by-stepinstructions:
INSTRUCTIONS
INSERTING BATTERIES:
1. The Magicflashunit operates on 4 "AA" Alkaline batteries (not included).
Check batteries for freshnesswhen you purchase them. Clean batteries before
inserting by rubbing both ends with a rough cloth.
2. Make sure ON/OFF SWITCH (5) is in OFF position.
3. Slide BATTERY COMPARTMENT DOOR (3) open and insert batteries
according to 1+1and (-) signs indicated on the top and bottom of the battery
compartment.Slide BATTERY COMPARTMENT DOOR shut.
LOADING FILM:
4. Film should be loaded in accordancewith Polaroid SX-70 Camera instruc-
tion book before mounting the camera on the Magicflash.
I'OUNTING CAMERA ON THE IIAGICFLASH UNIT:
5. To mount SX-70 camera to the Magicflash unit, OPEN CAMERA, then
snap camera onto the POWER PACK (10) (as shown in mounting diagram),
being certain that the back of the camera fits snugly against the back wall of
the Magicflash unit and that the sides of the camera are hooked under the
MagicflashCLIPS (8).
6. Attach FLASH HEAD (9) to camera by inserting FLASH HEAD TAB
carefullyinto the cameraFlashSocket.CAUTION:THE CONNECTINGCORD
IS PERMANENTLYATTACHED TO BOTH THE FLASH HEAD AND THE
POWERPACK. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DISCONNECT.
TAKING PICTURES WITH THE IIAGICFLASH UNIT:
7. Move ON/OFF SWITCH (5) to ON position. You will hear a faint hum.
This is normal. After severalseconds,the READY LITE (4) will glow, indica-
ting that the Magicflash unit is ready to operate. NOTE: The Magicflash unit
will not flash with the switch in the OFF position. The switch must be in the

ON position.lf PICTURECOUNTERWINDOW(0) indicates"O" or if there is no film pack in camera,the Magicflash unit will not flash, though the READYLITE is on. This indicatesthat your camera must be reloadedwith film. 8. After READYLITE is on, focus cameracarefully-focusing affectspicture exposure.WHEN CAMERAlS PROPERLYFOCUSED,YOU ARE READYTO TAKE A PICTURE. 9. After taking picture,the READY LITE will go off. The unit then recycles automaticallyand may be flashedagain after the READY LITE comes on. NOTE:BE CERTAIN THAT YOU FOCUS EACH PICTURE CAREFULLY AFTERTHE READYLITE COMESON. THIS WILL ENSURECORRECTFO- CUS AND EXPOSURE.The recyclingtime becomeslonger as you take more flash pictures. lt is time to replace the batteries if it takes over 30 seconds for the READYLITE to glow. lf unit has not been used for severalweeks,the time to chargethe unit initiallywill be longerthan usual.NOTE: TO CON- SERVEBATTERYLIFEAND GET EVENMORE FLASHESFROM A SET OF BATTERIES,TURN OFF MAGICFLASH UNIT AFTERTAKING EACH PICTURE. 10. After taking your first picture,wait until fully developedand examinethe picture for proper exposure.lt may be necessaryto adjust the LIGHTEN/ DARKENCONTROLon the SX-70for proper flash exposure.For hints in tak- ing better flash pictures,refer to section for Flash Picturesin the Polaroid SX-70camera instructionbooklet. REMOVING CAIIERA FROM MAGICFLASH UNIT: 11. To removethe camera from the Magicflash,be certain that the ON/OFF SWITCH(5) is in the OFF position. RemoveFLASH HEAD (9) from Flash Socket.Slightlyreleasetensionon either MagicflashCLIP (8) while lifting SX-70camerafrom the MagicflashPOWERPACK (10). Insert FLASH HEAD (9) into the FLASH HEAD RECEPTACLE(7) by carefullypositioningFLASH HEADTAB (1) into the FLASH HEAD TAB SLOT (ZA).This is the proper wayView original page 6

MOVE CAMERA COMPLETELYFROM POWER PACK BEFORECLOSING.
RELOADING FILTI IN CAMERA:
12. To reload SX-70camerawith film-slide the SX-70camera forward on
the Magicflashpower pack approximatelyone inch. This will allow the cam-
era'sfilm door to drop down when the film door releasebar on the camera
is depressed.Load film in accordancewith Polaroid'sdirections,close door
and slide camera back againstthe rear wall of the Magicflashunit.
ATTACHING SX.7OIiIAGICFLASH COMBINATION TO TRIPOD:
13.BEFOREMOUNTINGTHE MAGICFLASHUNIT,BE CERTAINTHAT
YOURTRIPODlS STABLEAND SECURE.To mount the Magicflash unit,
screwthetripodintothe POWERPACKTRIPODSOCKET(11).Opencamera,
snapcameraonto the Magicflashunit accordingto instructions5 ahd 6, and
you are now readyfor picturetaking.To removesimply reverseprocedure.
IMPORTANT:
1. Do not open or attempt to repair the Magicflashunit, since it contains
high voltagecircuitry,which should be servicedonly by properly trained
personnel. i \
2. When taking outdoor pictures, the Magicflash may be left on the SX-70
camerawith SWITCH (S) in the OFF position.
3. When not in use, the unit must be switched to OFF position to conserve
battery life. When not in use for an extended period of time, remove batteries
as they may corrode the Magicflashcontacts,and make the unit inoperable.
4. Care must be taken when inserting batteries.Pushing them in with too
much force will bend the contacts back and prevent proper contact with the
batteries.Should this occur, pry contactsforward slightly to make unit oper-
able again.
