paper and unwind sufficient of the protective backing paper to allow the
pointed end to be inserted in the wide slot of the empty spool in the upper
chamber (see Frc. 3). Make sure that the red side of the paper will face the
back of the camera and that the protective covering paper winds evenly between
the two flanges of the spool.
3. Give the film winder two or three turns, replace the back of the camera
and see that the hinge on the lower end of the camera back is securely hooked

lens aperture has been reduced, thereby increasing the length of exposure required.

                           TTIE SHUTTER
rhe Kershaw "Raven" Camera is htted with a precision three-speed shuler.
The engraved plate at the top of the shutter indicates the various exposures of
which the shutter is capable. The figures 25,50, 100 refer to instantaneousI
exposures expressed in fractions of a second. For example : when the shutter
speed regulator is brought into the position indicated by the figure 25, an in-
stantaneous exposure or "snapshot" of r/25th of a secon. will be made on
pressing the shutter release lever. In a similar manner, exposufes of t/loth
and t,/tooth of a second may be made. The following page will provide some
guidance for the correct use of the three shutter speeds.

The Kershaw F/6.3 anastigrnat fitted to the "Raven" Camera is a first-class
lehs carefully computed and produced to provide fine definition and covering
power. The outer lens cell bears a distance scale which is engraved for various
distances-6, 8, 10, 15 and 25 feet, and "Infinity," and its rim may be rotated
so that the focusing indicator coincides with the figure representing the
distance to the subject which it is intended to photograph; for example: to
nrake a portrait of a subject at, say, 6 feet, the focusing scale should be revolved
to bring the figure 6 in coincidence with the focusing indicator ; for

          USEFUL HINTS FOR THE BEGINNER
Do not jerk the camera or your picture may be blurred.
The lens must be kept clean and not touched by the fingers. It must not be
unscrewed because it has been correctly focused to give clear, crisp pictures.
Do not take photographs in poor light.
Never let the sun shine into the lens.
Never close the camera with the view finder on its side.
