Before making any important pic-
tures-a trip or some special event-
it is well to shoot a roll of film out-
doors and indoors with flash. This

PICTURETAI{ING Automat'ic erposure control
WuEN operating the Brownie Starmatic Camera automatically, you
must know the daylight exposure index of the film loaded in the
camera. Kodak Verichrome Pan Film has a daylight exposure in-
dex of 80 which is printed on the paper leader of the film.'The expo-
sure indexes for Kodak Color Films are also given in the instruc-
tions packed with the films. Proceed as follows:

50,64,80, 100, and 125. Turn the film index
dial until the line from the exposure index
number of the film in the camera points to
the raised white MARK. For example: the
daylight exposure index for Kodacolor
Film is 32-set the index dial at 32as shown.
2 Turn the nxposuRE vALUE scALE until the
word AUTO is exactly opposite its raised
white mark. Now the size of the lens open-
ing is automatically controlled by the

3 Compose the picture with your eye close
to the rear opening of the viewfinder so that
you can $ee all 4 corners of the front finder.
For proper exposure, the exposure meter
must read light reflect€d by the subject;
therefore, on sunny days, keep the sun be-
hind you.
This picture shows the recom- ?
mended way to hold the camera.
It is important that you hold the Norn: A pointer will appear

closer to the camera than 5 feet. For poorer light conditions, the
subject should not be closer than 6 feet.

MORE ABOUT VERICHROMEEPAN FILM
The daylight exposure index of 80 for verichrome pan Film in-
cludes a safety factor intended to prevent underexposure due to
variations in equipment and use. If you find that your Brownie
Starmatic Camera produces overexposed pictures when used auto-
matically outdoors, the exposure can be reduced by turning the film
index dial on the camera to 125 instead of 80.

Film Type F and clear flash lamps or Kodak Ektachrome Film
for Daylight and blue flash lamps as noted in the table on page 12.
