  The Accessory Back is built for precision adjustment to
each individual camera'. Once this adjustment is made,
the back will be parallr:l to the roll film plane so that the
entire area of the film or plate will be in exact focus. Do
not attempt to attach or use the ba,ck fufory tke adjustment  is rnade.

Follow these instructions carefully-the back may be
damaged if attached to the Medalist when improperly
adjusted.                                                                   i
  7. Remove the ground glass panel from the back as
     described on page 5.
  2. With a jeweler's screwdriver, check the two screws
     in each corn&r of the back frame (see illustration
     below). Turn the HneDLEss scREws clockwise as far
     as they will go. Turn the FLAT HEAD scREws clock-
     wise as far as they will go; then turn them three cum-
      plete turns in a counterclockwise direction.
  3. Attach the back to the camera (see page 4)  .
  4. With a jeweler's screr,vdrivcr, tui'n the flat head
     screws clockwise until the corners of the inner edges
     of the Accessory Baek just conre in contact with
     the roll filg\ tra-qk of the camera.
    This  isi\ a precision, adjustment-turn the screws
     gently with a jeweler's screwdriver.

5. Finally, turn the headless screws counterclockwise
       as far as they will go.
    6. As a final check, replace the ground glass as
       described on page 5 and with the lens wide open,
       focus (see page 5) on a large wall chart or calendar
      which is parallel to the ground glass. The image
       should be sharp over the entire area of the ground
         glass.
     When this adjustment is made, no further adjust-      'ments             should be necessary.



 Remove the regular camera back and, tuith the lens                                                                          "fulll  retracted, attach the Ar:cessory Back with the rercn for
  the ground glass panel as shown. The small LUG engages
  in the hole below tl4e snurrER cocKrNG LEVEn to make
 the range finder, focusing scale, and automatic paral-
 lax ad.justment  o of the view finder function properly
 when the Accessory Back is used. They witl not operate
  correctly unless the lens isfulQ retracted when the Accessory
- Back is attached to $e Msdalist.

To Remove the Grovnd Glqss Fqnel--Lift up the
latch, draw down on the small HrNGE cATCr{, urra hft
off the ground glass panel.
To Reploce the Ground Gloss ponel-Hold the panel
so that it is nearly closed; position the bottom hinge pin;
then depress the small hinge catch to position the upper
hinge pin.



Follow these easy sreps when using the Accessory Back
with the Kodak Medalist I or the Kodak Medalist II.
    l. rocus AND coMposE THE ptc'TURE. use either the
    range finder a+d vicw finder of the carnera, or
     use the ground glass panel of the Accessory Back.
     To focus on the g*iound glass panel, first screw
   a Kodak ,T.B.I* cable Release into the cABLE
    RELEASE socKET. 'Ihen set the red index on the
      shutter speed ring to "B" anc. cock the shutter r,vith

           Cable Relcase so that thc notch on the
            edge is directly under the small button
               (see illustration). Press the push pin of
           the cable release to open the shutter.
              Press the small button directly above the
              circular piece to closc thc shutter.
           To facilitate critical focusing, a srnall
   magnifier  is attached to the focusing hood.
    The black ett:hed line on the ground glass indi-
   cates the lirnits of the picture area with 2% x 3rA-
   inch film. With 6.5 x 9-cm film, the picturc area
   covers the wholc ground glass.
2. POSITION THE FltM. Rernovc or srving asidc the ground
   glass focusing p;lnel; then slide the proper Kodak
   Film Pack Adapter or Kodak Cornbination Film
  and Plate I'{oicit:r into positiorr. T'u rcrrlo\"c, siving
   the rocr aside artd withdrarv the adapter or holder.
   To use Kodak Fihn Packs No. 520, obtain a
  2% x 3%-inch Kodak Film Pack Adaptcr.
    To use sheet films or plates, obtain either the
   6.5 x 9-cm or th,: 2% x 3r/-inch Kodak Combina-
   tion Film and Plate Holder.
3. COCK THE SHUTTER rvith the shutter'. cocking levcr.
4. SET THE LENS OPENTNG AND SHUTTER SPEED for the
   correct exposure.
5. MAKE THE EXPoSURE. With the Kodak Medalist  I,
  use the Kodak T.B"I. Cable Release No. 2; the
   shutter release is inoperative and cannot be used.
    With the Kodak Medalist II, either the snurrER

RELEAsE or the T.B.I. Cable Release may be used.
      Time exposures are made in the same
    way as described for focusing on the
     ground glass.
     To make instantaneous and bulb
      exposures with the T.B.I. Cable Release  ,
     turn the circular piece of the cable
      release so that it slides under the smzrll
     button as shown in the illustration.
      Press the push pin of the cable release
     to make the exposure; it wiil spring
     back to its original position when the
      finger is removed.
Kodok Portro Lenses rnay be used to photograph sub-
jects closer than 311 feet-for close-up photography and
copying.
   'Io ttse a Kodak Portra l-,ens) Llnscre\ti the insert from
the front of the camera lens mount and place the Portra
Lens, convex side fonvard, in front of the camera lens. If
a filter is used, be sure to place the supplementary lens

  Always place the camera on a tripod or other firm sup-
port and focus with the ground glass--the view finder
and range finder will not give correr:t settings with the
P<.rrtra Lenses. With the Kodak Medalist I; make"the
exposure with the T.B.I. Cable Release. With the Kodak
Medalist II, use the T.B.I. Cable Release whenever the
lens is retracted from a normal picture-taking position
(as indicated by the focusing scale).
