Set the exposure control
Look fhrough the finder ond rolole the operture
ring (d) until ihe exposure control pointer is posi-
lioned in the middle of the A-index.


Release the shutter
Frome the subiect in the bright-line finder ond,
to toke the picture, depress ihe shutter releose  (e)
slowly oll the woy down. Operote the ropid-wind
lever on the comero bose. You ore now reody
lo toke onother picture.

Loading  the  film     olwoys in subdued lisht                             -

 1.       Turn the sofety lock (f) on the comero bose in the direction of ihe orrow. Press
          ihe opening button (g) ond the comero bock will spring open.
2.       Depress the rewind knob (h) slightly ond turn it ogoinst the direction of the
          .  orrow.  lt will then spring up; pull it out os for os it will go.
3.       Turn the built-in toke-up spool (i) until the light-coloured slot foces upwords.
            Insert the end of the film into the slot in the toke-up spool so thot the iooth
           proiecting from one side of the slot engoges one of the perforotions of the film.
4.         Pull the cossette over the film trock ond drop it inio the film chomber (j). Then
         push the rewind knob fully down ond lock it by turning in the direction of the
          orrow. When tensioning the film (see 6) roise the rewind knob ogoin.
5.        Turn the toke-up spool until the teeth of the sprocket (k) engoge the perforotions
        on both sides of the film.
6.      Then turn the rewind knob (h) in the direction of the orrow until o slight resi-
          stonce is felt. This tokes up the slock film inside the cossette. Push the rewind
        knob down os for os it will go ond lock it by giving it o slight turn in the
           direction of the orrow. Close the comero bock by pressing it ogoinst the comero
        body uniil you heor it lock.

Setting the frame counter
After looding the film, be sure to set lhe frome counter. This will tell you how mony fromes
ore left still unexposed on your film (the frome counter counts bockwords from 36 or 20 to l).
Push the frome counter setting knob (l) on the bose of the comero severol limes in the
direction of the orrow until the setting mork between 36 ond I is in ihe middle of the
frome counter window (with 20 exp. cosseites, use ihe setting mork ot No.23). Now operote
the ropid-wind lever lo the limit of iis lrovel. Fire the shutler ond repeot this sequence of
operolions uniil the figure 36 (20 with 20 exp. cossettes) is in lhe middle of the frome
counier window.

When operofing the ropid-wind lever, moke sure lhol lhe rewind knob is rololing ogoinsf
the direction of lhe orrow. This tells you thot the film is winding correctly.

Yery important - the film speed
For correci exposure you must set the film speed correctly. Set the film speed on the red
DIN or ASA scole. Press the locking button (n) ond turn the shutier ring (o) until the red
dot is ogoinst the required speed volue. (The ASA-scole is on the opposite side of the
shutier ring).

To set lhe film indicotor, turn the rewind knob ogoinst the direction of the orrow ond let
in spring up (but don't pull it right up), hold  it firmly ond turn the inner knurled ring until
the block dot is opposite the oppropriole symbol.

Selecting the shutter sPeed
Rotofe ihe shuiter ring (o) until the desired shulter speed seiting "clicks'inlo ploce opposite
lhe setting mork (b).
The block numbers on lhe shutler ring denote frociions of o second: 15 :   llts sec, 30 :
r/roSec, 60:1leosec,125 :1le5sec1250:1lzsosec,500  :  r/soosec. (The letter B is the
shutler.setting for time exposures. For further detoils see poge 241.
In doylight r/eo S€c or t/rzs Sec ore normolly used, ond these ore odequote for most subiecls.
For fost-moving subiecls, e.g. sports phoiogrophs, use o foster shuiter speed i.e.1lzso
or r/5oo sec.

Exposure control setting





                                 Look lhrough ihe viewfinder window ond rotote lhe
                                    operture ring (d) by both grips, unlil the pointer  is
                                      in the middle of the A-index. The comero is now
                                          set for correct exposure. lf, when setting lhe pointer,
                                        lhe operlure ring reoches o poini where  ii will rotote
                            no furlher, olter the shutter speed seiting until on
                                   exoct setiing in fhe viewfinder is possible. (Do not
                                       sei the shufier to B, os ot B, the cxposure control
                               does nol operoie).
                                Under extreme lighling conditions, the A-index moy
                            become covered. This tells you ihoi the selected
                                       shuifer speed seliing would give on incorrect ex-
                                     posure. lf, however, you still wish io ioke fhe photo-
                                   groph, you con give o time exposure or use flosh
                                       (see poge 22).

Holding the camera





Whefher you toke o horizontol or o verticol picture
depends upon lhe noture of the subject. The lwo
illustrotions ore iniended os o guide for holding the
comero sieody for horizontol (obove) ond verticol
pictures (below). Try o few positions to see which surts
you best.


The index finger should be resied lighlly on the shutter
releose. Core should be token fhof no port of the
ever-reody cose gets in front of the lens. Also, moke
sure lhot you do not obscure the exposure meter
window with your fingers.

Viewing and releasing





The brillioni frome in the finder of your comero
shows you the exoct picture oreo ond mokes viewing
eosier for you. When viewing, ioke core to keep your
fingers cleor of the honeycomb window of the ex-
posure meter. After moking sure thoi the exposure
control needle is cenlred wiihin the A  mork, slowly
depress lhe shulter releose (e).


 After toking o picture, operoie the winding lever (m)
os for os it will go. You ore ihen reody for lhe next
 exoosure.

Unloading the film      in subdued light                                                              -

                             When you hove token lhe lost exposure ("1" in the
                                     frome counter), the film odvonce mechonism will lock.

                                                    this, first ollow the rewind knob to spring up (do not
                                            pull ir up). Then press the reversing button (o) in the
                                   bose of the comero ond ot the some time turn lhe
                                       rewind knob (h) in the direction of the orrow until the
                                          reversing button ceoses to rotote. You con wotch this
                                          buiton turning by observing the block dot neor its rim.
                             Now open the comero ond remove lhe cossette.
                                                              lf the frome-counter hos not been set correctly, the
                                            film ironspori lock moy operole foo soon. lf this hop-
                                         pens, push the frome-counter setting knob once io the
                                                           left. Then operole the ropid-wind lever corefully, so os
                                       not to risk teoring the film oui of fhe cossette.  lf  it
                                      connot be operoted to the limit of its trovel, then you
                                     hove come to lhe end of the film. The ropid-wind lever
                                                    will spring bock into posiiion if the frome-counter selting
                                   knob is pushed once to the left.

Depth of field


The depth of field vories occording io the operiure ond
the distonce set. A high operlure number (e. g.22) yields
greol depth of field, o low operlure number (e. g. 2'8)
yields liitle deplh. The depth of field ot onv distonce
ond operture con be reod from the depth'of-field scole
(q) on ihe shutter mount, operture opposiie the block
dor (p).
Exomple: The comero is set for lhe medium zone ond
f/ll hos been chosen. Then, on the depth'of-field scole,
 51lz leel will coincide wifh the number ll on the lefl
ond neorly oo with lhe number  ll on the righl. There-
fore, everything between 51lz leet ond oo will oppeor
shorp in ihe picture.

On the depth-of-field scole (q), the zone of shorp focus for f/4
 is shown by the blod< indicoting line. The hto dols inside lhis
 line show the depth-of-field limits for l/2.8 ond lhe dots outside
show those lor f15,6.

Flash pictures
(The bottery is olreody in position).
1 Push the knob (r) in ihe direclion of the orrow    ihe floshgun will pop up.                                                      -
2. Roiote the shutter ring to t :o s€c ond set the required distonce ogoinsi the setting mork.
3. From the flosh-toble reod off the operture, e. g. f'11, ond sel  it ot the index (p).
4. Use AG-l floshbulbs (blue floshbulbs for doylight lype reversol colour film, cleor flosh-
   bulbs for block-ond-white ond negoliv colour film). Rock the bulb gently bockwords ond
  forword to remove ony chemicol deposit   f rom the contocts.
5. The plostic floshguord supplied with the comero should be used when toking flosh
   pictures. Simply slide it over the reflector with ihe open side poinling to the reor. This
   is especiolly imporlont when toking close-ups ond groups.

6. Depress the shutter releose (e) slowly    the bulb will fire outomolicolly. (Do not put lhe                                          -  comero owoy wilh o bulb in ploce.  lf you do, the bottery will run down.)
7. To eiect ihe bulb ofter firing, toke off the plosfic shield, poini the comero downwords
  ond push the knob (r) iowords the eyepiece of the viewfinder, in the direction of the
   orrow; the used bulb will then foll out. Do not touch floshbulbs immediotely ofter firing -   they will be extremely hot.
8. The life of the Mollory PX 625 boftery supplied is opproximotely lwo yeors. To chonge
   the bottery, ploce o coin in the slot (s) ond turn it onii-clockwise. (The cover of the boliery
  chomber con be eosily removed by pushing lhe neorby sofety coich to the side). When
   fiiling rhe new bottery moke sure thot positive side (morked *)  is lo the inside. Then
   close lhe chomber.
Nole: When using on occessory floshgun, ottodr its coble to lhe sodet on the fronl plole of lhe
comero. fhe built-in floshgun is in these circumslonces disconnecfed.

Delayed action shots
                                                         lf you wish to include yourself in the picture, push the
                                    smoll lever (t) sidewoys os for os it will go. You must
                                        set lhis lever only ofter operoting lhe ropid-wind lever.
                                                            lf you now press the shutter releose, the deloyed oction
                               mechonism storts running down ond the shulter will
                           be releosed ofter o deloy of obout i0 seconds. You
                          moy olso moke flosh pictures with the deloyed oclion
                                        releose. Once you hove set the deloyed oction mecho-
                                     nism, you must moke lhot porticulor exposure with  it.
                    Time exposures
                                     Turn lhe shulter speed setting ring (o) until the letter "B"
                                    coincides with the setting mork. At this setting you
                         moy keep fhe shutter open os long os you like by
                               keeping the shutter releose depressed. When the
                              comero is set to "8" the exposure control mechonism
                                     is inoperotive. Deloyed oction exposure connot be
                           mode ot this setting. To prevent comero movement,
                                   time exposures should only be token with the comero
                                mounted on o lripod or other firm support. Alwoys use
                         o coble releose for time exposures. lt screws into the
                                     socket (u).

Changing partly exPosed films
Rewind the film in the comero, until the reversing button (see poge 20) ceoses to rotote,
then stop. Toke the film out of the comero ond note number shown in the frome-counter
                                                                                                                     10.window. When re-looding fhe film, first set the frome-counter os described on poge
When 36 (or 20) is indicoted do nof releose the shutter. Subtroci the previously noted coun-
ter reoding from 36 (or 20); this gives you the number of times you must now operote the
ropid winJ lever    but with the frome-counler setting knob held firmly in fhe direction of                  -                operote the ropid wind lever twice more, before releosing the frome-lhe qrrow. Now
counter setting knob. Finolly, set the noted number on the frome-counter. When operoting
the ropid wind lever, the reversing button see thot rototes. You ore now reody to continue
toking pictures.

Photographs at less than Srlz feet
At distonces between 31ltft ond 8rlz ft,  it
becomes necessory to compensote for
porollox. For thot purpose, toke on imogi-
nory line between the two opposite morks
neor the top of the bright-frome. Toke
this line to be the upper limit of the de-
sired field of view, otherwise you moy
"cut off" some of the picture.
