Kodak trilm lank
The Kodak Film Tank has so thoror.rghly demonstrated the
superiority of the time and temperatttre method of development
that the old hand development of dark roonr days is practically
obsolete, except for the development of extra large glass plates.
The Kodak Tank is immeasurably more convenienf-san fs
carried and used anywhere; but that is not its greatest
ad,vantage. It eliminates the dark room entirely, developing
film in broad daylight ; but even this is not its greatest advantage.
For with both these extraordinary featttres it prodttces better
resulls,. and this is its greatest advantage-the asstlrance that
-$'
every ro11 of film put into the tank, r,vherethe simple directions
are implicitly followed, will come out developed as well or better
than that roll of film could be developed in the dark room by the
most experienced photographer.
The Kodak Film Tank consists of a winding box, a light-
proof apron, and a heavily nickeled brass solution cup with cover.
A11 articles can be packed in the box, making the entire outfit
self-contained.
The film to be developed is placed rlpon a reel in the winding
box, the cover is placed on the box and the film is wound around
a central axis in combination with the apron, in such fashion that,
-""n,rhtView original page 2Page 3 · Read text

when completely wound, the apron protects the fiIm effectually
from light, and may be removed from the winding box safely at
any time. It is then lowered into the cup of developer, the
cover attached and the film left to develop for twenty minutes.
After clevelopment the film is rcmoved for fixing.
F'very step may be performed in daylight and the entire
operation is so simple as to bc readily understood by the absoiute
novice. The exact time necessary for development, in combina-
tion with thc chemical formuia, has been scientifically r,vorked
ont, so 1-hatall diffcrences of exposllre rvithin reasonable bounds
are taken care of. Snap-shots and time exposnres go into thc
tank at the same time ancl come out together, developed to their
fr-rll values. . With the I(odak Iiihn Tank, the amateur can
develop a number of rolls at once by means of duplicating outfits.

No. 2 Brownie Developing Box
Offering the satne assurance of perfectly developed film as the
'fank,Kodak Film the Brownie Developing Box is a modified form
of the salne, so simple to use that any boy or girl can readily uncler-
stand and operate it.
It consists of a metal box rvith cover, just long enough to
accommodate a roll of No. L or No. 2 Brownie Film in one loop.
To develop, the roll of film is inserted in the spool carrier, and by
means of a cord and winding shaft the film is unrolled and carried around
a roller bearing, thus exposing the film to the action of the developer.
Before unrolling the film the developer is poured in the box and
the cover put in place; all these operations being performed in
daylight. The.film is then unrolled by turning the crank, when the
box is rocked on its standard for six minutes. The developer is then
poured off and box filled with water to wash out developer, after
which film is removed and fixed in daylight.
This is an excellent means, for those who have No. 1 or No. 2
Brownie Cameras, of developing their films without the need of skill
or experience.

Panoram Kodaks
A wonderfully inviting field is opened to the amateur by the
Panoram Kodaks.
As their name indicates, they are intended for picturing wide
expanses of landscape ancl similar subjects, and this without
the exceedingly small images incident to the Llse of extreme
wide angle lenses, heretofore the only method of sectiring II
such pictures.
Aside from the remarkable horizontal views, decidedly unique
pictures of high waterfalis, mountain peaks and similar subjects
may be macle bv holding the camera vertically. Two tripod
sockets are supplied for ttse rvith the camera either vertically
or horizontally.
For taking <lutdoorgrolp pictures the Panorams are uneqttaled,
as the subjects may be arranged in a semi-circle, at a given
distance from the Kodak, thus permitting all of them to be in
the " front row " and of proper relative size'
Though possessing such remarkable advantages, the Panoram f
I Kodaks are exceedingiy simple in constrttction and operation'
The compassing of so wide an angle of view is accomplished I'by swinging the lens on a pivot during the exposure, the shutter
bli"g accurately adjusted to insure evell illumination throughout
the exposure.
The brilliant finder shows the sky and foreground, and the
entire view may be examined.by simply swinging the camera in
position so as to take in the full view, as indicated by the v-shaped
lines on the top of the camera. The No. 1 Panoram takes a view
of 112 d,egrees, while the No. 4 has the great scope of \42
clegrees. The Panoram Kodaks ttse the regular daylight loading
cartridges. Not adaptcd to incloor work. Covered with best
black leather and have nickeled fittings'View original page 6Page 7 · Read text

E,astman Plate Tank
What the film tank has done for films,
the plate tank does for plates. The idea
of the two tanks is based upqn the same
time and temperature fact of development,t
with, of course, such differences in actual con-
struction of the tinks as are required by theII
physical difference between fihns and plates.I
And as plates must be unloaded in a dark
roorn, the plate tank cannot of{er the
advantage of daylight quite all the way,
but it takes only a few moments in the dark
room to load this tank, after which it rnay be
brought out into any light for development.
The device consists of a metal solution
ctrp with cover, a cage for holdin g 72 or less plates, and a loading block
for loading the plates in the cage.
The exposed plates are loaded into the cage and placed in the
tank, which has been filled with developer, in the dark room and
the tank cover fastened in place. On the front of the tank is a dial
r for registering time. Development is ailowed to continue for fifteen
minutes, the tank being reversed several times. After development
the developer is washed out of the plates, and the fixing bath poured
a into the tank, after which the plates are ready for vvashing in tn-e
usual manner.

A Anastlgmat" rat Lensesr-enses
The steadily increasing demand for anastigmat lenses among
amatettr photographers, the extraordinary sale of Kodaks like the
Nos. 3 and 3A Special, is due to the fact that amateur photographers
are beginning to realize the advantages and possibilities of the
anastigmat as compared with the ordinary Rapid Rectilinear.
In an R. R. lens the opening, or working apertttre, lnust not be
largcr than one-eighth the focal length of the lens. If it rvere made
larger, each negative would be blurred and unsatisfactory. An
opening of this size admits sufficient tight on clear, bright days to
produce well timed exposures even as fast as rto of a second; but in
clull lights, snap-shots are impossible, and at higher speed, hopelessly
undertimed negatives are the resuits.
But with an anastigmat, the construction and optical corrections
are such that satisfactory pictures can be made at an opening more
than one-seventh the focal length of the lens; hence admitting more light
in a given time than the R. R. For instance the Zeiss Kodak
Anastigmat lens working at f. 6.3 admits 60 per cent more light than
an R. R. In combination with a focal plane shutter, exposures as
short as lo,1ooof a second can be successfully made, while on dull b
days, and even indoors near a window, where with an R. R. lens
little or no impression could be obtained, the anastigrnat admits so
much more light that slow snap-shots can be made.
I
The Zeiss Kodak Anastigmat Lens, f. 6.3
From. the above it will be obvious that the natural step for us
was to provide an anastigmat lens peculiarly suited to Kodak
requirements, and in the Zeiss Kodak Anastigmat, we offer a lens
rvhich is worthy in every respect of bearing the name Kodak - a
lens that we can unqualifiedly recommend to the most critical
photographer as perfectly suited to hand camera work.
It encompasses all the quality and dependability which the name
Koclak implies, and it is apparent that we would not have given the
name Kodak to any article unless we had absolutely assured ourselves
from rigid. tests and comparisons, that it would bear the name worthily.
