L t e LEITZ Universol Focusing Bellows for the IEICA extend
fhe scope of the LEICA lenses lo include the mony'sided ond
inleresting fields of close-up ond mocrophotogrophy.
The vorioble extension permils conlinuous focusing within very
wide limits.
Wirh rhe I3.5 cm. HEKTOR lens ond the LEITZ VISOFLEX reflex
housing the focusing ronge exlends from subiects ot infinity fo
reproduction in nolurql size. The shorl-focus lenses of the IEICA
will even yield opprecioble degrees of imoge mognificoticn
on the negotive. The VISOFLEX housing is the mosl convenient
qnd ropid meons of focusing with fhe focusing bellows.

The upright, speciolly brilliqnt*, ground gloss screen imoge,
enlorged by the focusing mognifier, permils qn occurote checlc
on the shorpness right up lo fhe moment of exposure.
I'he following mognifiers ore ovoiloble for fhe VISOFLEXhousing:
O Theverticql LYFOO mognifieryielding o magnificolion of 5 x.
O lhe PEGOO mog nifier with the eyepiece set qf on ongle of
45 degrees, showing o right-woy'tovnd imoge mognified 4 x.
O The right-ongle PAMOO 5 x mog nifier for eye-level obser-
vofion.
The mirror moves oul of the woy on operolion of the csmerq
shulter, either by meons of lhe IEITZ twin releose, or the LEITZ
coble releose link**.
The two ends of the IEITZ twin releose ore fitted with coptive
nuls. Screw fhe nut morked with the block ring over he releqse
butlon of the VISOFIEX housing, ond the other nul over the
releose button of the cqrnero.
*) With reflex focusing the brighfness of the ground gloss screen
imoge depends on the sizeof the mirror. Unlike models with o shorf-
ened mirror, fhe VISOFLEXhousing hos o full-size surfoce-silvered
mirror which collecfs the whole of the incident light ond diverfs if fo
the ground gloss screen without ony loss.

Assembling fhe Equipment
First screw the VISOFLEXhousing (2) to the reor plotform of the
focusing bellows by meons of the centrol screw (3).This presses
the VISOFLEXhousingogoinst the reor ponel (4) of the bellows.
Screw the LEICA body to the screw mount of the VISOFLEX
housing. To rotote the comero on the VISOFLEXhousing for
horizontol or verticql pictures,releqse the cotch by pressingthe
button ot the left-hond side of the housing (os seen from behind
the co mero).
The screen mosk outomoticolly rototes of the some time to
correspond to the formot in use.
Screw the odoptor ring (6) corrying the stondord LEICA threod
into the threod in the front ponel of the bellows. An odoptor
tube (Z) fits into this ring, ond in turn tokes the lens unit of the
13.5cm. HEKTORlens (8).The lens unit first hos to be unscrewed
from its focusing mount, os shown in the illustrotionon poge 5.
The oppropriqte lens hood (9) or the bellows lens hood (see
poge 6) con now be fitted over the lens.

For use on the focusing bellows, the
.|3.5 cm. HEKTOR lens hos to be un-
screwedfrom its focusing mount.To do
this, hold the lens unit iust behind the
operture ring, ond unscrew to the
left, lifting it out of the coupled focus-
ing mount or of the short focusing
.|3.5
mount (os used with the cm. HEK-
TOR lens on the VISOFLEXhousing).
Setting Up for Exposure
Mount the focusing bellows on q suitoble firm stcrndwith o solid boll-qnd-
socket heod. The tripod bush is fitted underneoththe focusing bellows.
With the mirror in the focusing position,o circulqr focusing mork is visible
in the centre of the ground glossscreen.Focusthe mognifierin use occurotely
on this mork. The correct setting of the mognifier eyepiece for the eye of the
user cqn be mqrked once ond for oll by pointing or scrotchingo smoll index
line in the oppropriote position. Then odiust the shorpnessof the screen
imoge by meons of the drive knobs of the side of the rqil.
Scole of Reproduction
The left,hond side of the guide roil is colibroted in scoles of reproductton
.|3.5
for the outfit when used with the cm. HEKTOR lens.
A white index line on the slide next fo fhe pinion drive knob shows fhe scole
of reproductionin decimol figures. For close-upsot,long bellows exfensionsfhe
exposure mustolso be increosed.fhese exposure foctorsore morked in red on
fhe some scole.(For example,when sef to 0.5,fhe subjecf is reproduced in hqlf
its nofurol size, ond the exposure f octor is 2 x).

Assembling the Equipment
Fix the focusing stoge (2) bV its right-hond tripod bush to the focusing bellows with the screw (3).
Fix the LEICA body (l) - without lens - to the focusing stoge, fitting it into the recess of the
stoge, ond holding it in position by the spring clomp. (Depressthe spring-looded milled knob
ond lock by o quorter turn.) Moke sure ihot the edge of the comero bose plote is porollel to
the long edge of the stoge. Screw the boyonet ring (5) into the front ponel of the bellows.
Now fit the click-stop diophrogm ring (7) over the 5 cm. ELMAR lens (6). The notch in the ring
musf engoge the operture lever of the 5 cm. ELMAR lens,with the white operture number on
the front edge correspo nding to the operlure to which fhe lens is sef. Then tighten the clomping
screw ot the side to hold the diophrogm ring in posifion. Push the lens down into its focusing
mount, ond clip with its boyonet fitting into the ring (5).
The corresponding scoles of reprociuction ond red exposure fqctors for the obove combino-
tion ore morked on the right-hond scole of the guide rqil (os seen from behind the comero).

The 9 cm. ELMAR lens con in oddition be unscrewd from its fo-
cusing mount in the some woy os the 13.5cm. HEKToR (see
pqge 5, top), ond fitted into the ring (6) with on odop-
tor tube (UOOWV). The scoles of reproduction obtqin-
oble in this woy with the focusing stoge ore given in
t o b l e 4 o n p o g e 1 1 .
Predetermined Scoles of Reproduction
lf cl subiect is to be photogrophed ot o given scqle of
reproduction, first odiust the index line on the slide to the
required figure. Wilh the focusing bellows thus preset, op-
prooch the subiect with the whole qssembly until the imoge
is completely shorp on the ground gloss screen.
The use of o fine focusing slide permifs ropid ond occurote
focusing. lt becomes indispensobleof some-sizeond lorger
scoles of reproduction. (Normolly the fine focusing slide is
used for fine odiustment of the focusing stoge.) This slide
con be mounted on the boftom of the focusing bellows by
meons of theodoptor plote (b).When set up on o firm stond,
this orrongement ollows focusing even of preset scoles of
reproduction; the shorpnessof the imoge is then odiusted
by meons of the block pinion drive (c) of the fine focus-
