YOUR FRA]ICIIISED IEICA DEATER
iI
The cameras, lenses, and other merchandise you will find in this catalog are sold a'
only through Franchised Leica Dealers. These dealers are prepared to perform many
services for you, and so we would like you to know more about them and their relationship
with us.
The Leica franchise is held by about 1400 out of a total of over 10,000 photographic
dealers throughout the United States. A Leica franchise is granted to a dealer only after
consideration of the following factors:
(a) his integrity,
(b) his knowledge of the Leica and its wide selection of accessories,
(c) his willingness to keep a selection of Leica models, parts, and
accessories on hand for your convenience.
We urge you to get acquainted with your local Leica dealer. He can give you many I
tips on how to get the most out of your Leica and on photography in general. -1
We wish also to say a word about the retail prices set forth in this catalog. These
prices have been established at the lowest level consistent with Leica's unequalled quality.
They are covered by fair trade laws where applicable. Fair trading has been established
to assure your dealer of a reasonable profit margin (the lowest in the photographic
industry, incidentally) and make it possible for him consistently to give you excellent
service.
Because of the reputation and the popularity olthe Leica, so; dealers who do not
1 hold a Leica franchise attempt to handle Leica merchandise. As new, legally importcd 1
Leica merchandise is sold only through Franchised Leica Dealers, Leica merchandise
obtained by non-franchised dealers is second-hand, and sometimes has been obtained
through illegal channels. To be certain that you are getting new, legally imported l
merchandise, be sure to buy it from a store that displays the sign of a Franchised Leica
Dealer. When you buy from him a new Leica camera or lens you are sure it is new as he
will give you both a Leitz import certicate and a Leitz registration card which positively
identify the equipment by serial number, Upon the return of the registration card to
E. Leitz,Inc. you will receive a guarantee certificate, which is confirmation that you are
the original purchaser.
Not only is the Franchised Leica Dealer the only legitimate source of new Leica I
merchandise but also he is the best source for used Leica merchandise. Leica cameras - and accessories are built to give many years of satisfactory service. Consequently, i Leica equipment commands a high value for trade-in or resale purposes' and if the I
equipment has not been abused, it will continue to give excellent results for many years. ',
However, it is recommended that used equipment be purchased only from your regular
Franchised Leica Dealer. You can have confidence in what he tells you concerning its
age, and you can look forward to cheerful and helpful service in the years to come.

You can choose between two basic types of f,ash equipment for you Leica-conventional md
electronic. Each has its advantages. Lejca fiash units for conventional flash bulbs (ihe CEYOO
and the Chico) are extremely small and ligbt. they ue very easy to carry and t}eir mst is modqst.
Operating power comes from a 22-l/2 volt battery-capacitor.
The Braun Hobby Electronic Flash Units although somewhat bulkier and more expensive than
the conventional units, have rqleating fash tubes good for more than 30,0(D fashes. They smn
pay for themselves sinc.e they end your fashbulb expense forever.
CEYOO FLASH UNIT
This flash unit for conventional bulbs is so popu-
lar that we h"rrs sdepted it for use on otler
cametas besides the kica, The various adapta-
tions consist of the basic CEYOO unit with a
special connecting cord fftting the speciffc type
of camera listed. (The only exception is fash unit
CEYOSR which has no connecting c.ord; it has a
special foot which makes the electrical contact.)
The eonnecting cords furnished with the fash
units for the Leica come with a removable fernale
soc*et for ure with electronic flash eclripment.
The folding reflector of your CEYOO unit slips ofi the gun for compact storage and you can essily
adjust it inlie@ Its sp(@minaflon
even when you use a wide-angle lens. The bulb holder has a removable bayonet socket with ejec-
tor button, A big advantage of the CEYOO is that it takes screw base bulbs as well as bayonet base
bulbs for those times when you need bigh light output. Whatt more, you get a test lamp with each
unit to assist you in checking electrical connections. CEYOO and CHICO fash units come com-
plete with batteries.
EXTENSION FTASH
Frequently you will ffnd it desirable to locate the fash unit at a distana from your camera. All
you will need for tlds pu4rose is one or more 5 foot extension cords which you ptit between the
unit and the connecting cord at the camera. Extension flash gives you flexibility of light plac'e-
ment for better modeliug bounce light and special efiects.
IIUITIPLE FI.ASH
Multiple flash is the ffring of two or more bulbs at the same time. It gives you the flexibility of
studio lighting equipment and you can ffll in shadows, make highlights or use more than one
bulb to evenly light a large area. In picking your multiple flash equipment, you mn .choose be-
tween either the parallel ot series systems.
Porottel Syrtcm
For parallel hook-up, you will need a B-C insert in each CEYOO unit. Units are connected with an
extensioD cord and multiple fash plug. When you work with this system, put a bulb in each unit
and allow at least l0 seconds charging time before you connect the units to each other. Other-
wise premature ffring may result.View original page 3Page 5 · Read text
Series System
Some photographers prefer a series circuit for multiple flash work, With a series hmktp prema-
ture ffring is impossible. Also, you can insert bulbs either before or after you connect up the units.
You will need one4omplete fash unit with a B-C iDsert at the camera and one additional unit
(in which you have replaced the B-C insert with a series insert) for each extra lamp. Connect
these units with an extension cord and series flash plug.
If you prefer the series system, there is a Multiple Flash Kit for you convenience, It contains a
CEYOO flash unit in which a Series Insert replaces the B-C series, a ffve foot extension cord
and a Series Flash Plug.

eficient! The small size and high power of bayo-
net-base flash bulbs coupled with improvements
in battery design, give you a huge light output
from a vest-pocket fash gun. "Chico" is the last
word in compaetness and conveniene. In a single
plastic housing (only l-l/2" wide and 8-1/2"
Iong! ) you ger L 22-I/2 volt Battery-Capacitor, a
built-in circuit tester with test lamp and a recti-
ffer for multiple fash. The bayonet-base bulb
socket with ejector button and the folding fan-
type reflector are part of the housing, toot "Chio" Flash Unit with Adiusrable Holdq
for IIf, Illt
Its built-in ciroit tester is a unique feature of the
'Chico" fash. If you push the test button after
you have placed a flash bulb in the socket, a test
lamp will shine through the housing. This tells you that your battery and fash bulb are in order,
You can also test the synchronizing ciroit of your @mera. With the unit connected to the camera
and a bulb in position (but with the refector folded) operate the sbutter, If the circuit is com-
plete and everything is functioning properly, the test lemp will glow. The fash bulb cannot Gre
unless the refector is in open position.
You can put "Chico" directly into the accessory shoe of your camera, or,vou can us€ it with an adiust-
able holder which prcvide angular adiustment of tho{eJr*ir.
For Extendon Flqrh
As with the CEYOO fash, all that you need to ffre the "Chico" unit at a distance from your @mera
is one or more extension cords to connect the unit to your camera. The fash unit has a tripod socket
in its base so you can mount it on a tripod for extension or multiple lighting.
For Mulriple Florh
You can ffre two or more'Chicv" units in multiple by connecting them to each other with the
proper cords. Unlike the CEYOO unig 'Chico" has no provision for series fash. You will need each
unit complete with a battery. However, a rectifier built into each unit prevents premature ffring
of the bulb-a major advantage of series wiring.

BRAUN HOBBY ETECTRONIC FI.AsH UNTTS
Automatic EF 3 Spcial EF 2 and Spcial EF 2 NC Stanalard EF I
Electronic flash ofters the advantages of conventional flash bulbs plus unique characteristics of
its own. Its highspeed light source (I/l00oth second) will "stop" virtually any action and has a lifc
of many thousands of flashes. And, since Braun Hobby electronic fash units operate from either
ordinary A.C. household cunent or rechargeable storage batteries, you can use them anywhere.
Thus, electronic fasb eliminates tbe cost of constsDt bulb replacement and costs practically nothing
to operate.
Each Hobby unit is engineered to mat a special need in flash equipment; each is a product of the
well-known electrical ffrm of Max Braun of Frankfurt,Germany-Europe's largest manufacturer of
electronic fash units. A maior Braun innovation is the revolutionary "Barix" storage battery-an
exclusive "Hobby" feature. This new battery has exc€ptionally long life, aird is practically immune
to damage from accidental overcharging or neglect. You can leave ft uncharged for up to half a
year without harm to the platesl It is perfectly suited to the needs of busy professionals, yet equally
mluable for hobbyists who may use it only intermittently.
Another feature of the new Hobby units (except the Standnrd EF l) is a two-transistor monitor
circuit which automatically checks the condenser charge. During waits between pictures the moni-
tor circuit switches ofi the vibrator when the condenser reaches full charge. Then, if the charge
drops, the monitor circuit switches the vibrator on for a moment-automatically-to restore full
power, then switches it ofi again. The battery charge lasts longer; light output stays consistent.
And you oonc€ntrate on good pictures, not the on-off witch.
Four Models
The hobby Automatic EF 3 is the most advanced of four models, and is especially suited for pro-
fessional use. It features push-button control of its various functions, switching instantly from A.C.
to storage battery operation, to half-power light ouqrut or battery charging via a built-in charger.
Its 135 watt-second power will handle virtually any assignment, and an extensioo fash head is
available to provide widely varying lighting efiects.
The Special EF 2 is designed especially with advanced amateurs in mind, Its 70 watt-second
power is ample for nearly any hobby photography, and many professional assignments as well. Its
newly-designed, tiny reflector throws a 60' beam completely free of hot spots in the ffeld of a
normal lens and exc'ellent even for wide-angle shots. The Special EF 2 works on either A.C. or the
new "Barix" storage battery and has a built-in battery charger. There is ample light output to handle
an extension flash head, which is available as an acc€ssory.
The Special EF 2 NC has features virtually identical with those of the Special EF 2, except that its
battery is a rechargeable nickel-cadmium unit rather than the Barix. This battery is permanently
installed and cannot be removed by the user. The nickel-cadmium, like the Barix battery features
long life and minimum maintenance, giving up to 75 fashes on a single battery charge.
