             INSTRUCTIONS
   F'OR U SING THE LEICA R,APID WINDER

                         Remove the regular bot-
                        tom plate from the LEICA
                         Camera and replace it with
                      the Rapid Winder Base
                           Plate. When placing the

position. It is locked in place
in the same manner as when using the regular base plate by
turning the locking ring to the closed position. In case the
Rapid Winder spindle does not connect immediately, turn
the winding knob of the LEICA slightly until the connection
is made.
After the Rapid Winder is in place, set the camera for
the first exposure by hand, using the regular winding knob.
This is to make sure that the pin of the Rapid Winder prop-
erly engages the notch of the winding knob spindle.
After making the first exposure, bring the next frame
of film into position and set the shutter of the LEICA by
pulling the trigger of the Rapid Winder from right to left
with a smooth, even motion. Do not jerk it as this may tear
the perforations of the fllm. With a little practice, this may
be done very rapidly, it being possible to make thirty-six
exposures in twenty seconds or less. Be sure that the trigger
is pulled as far to the left as it will permit and then is allowed
to completely return to its original position before the shut-
ter release button is pressed. If this is not done, the shutter
will not be completely wound and that frame will be lost.
The counting dial is set in the usual manner at the be-
ginning of the roll. However, if a series of very rapid shots
is taken, the counting dial may not register coruectly. This

is caused by the rewind spindle being turned so rapidly that
the counting dial, due to its inertia, is slipping. This will not
happen unless exposures are made at great speed. The
camera should be held in the right hand in such a manner
that the thumb presses against the rear of the camera and
the third and fourth fingers rest along the front of the cam-
era. The index finger should be used to actuate the shutter
release button. The index finger of the left hand should
rest in the trigger and the thumb should press against the
left end of the camera. This gives a steady position and
when advancing the trigger, the left thumb should apply
pressure against the end of the camera.
The finger that depresses the shutter release button
should be cupped in such a manner that no part of the hand
is touching the winding knob as this would cause friction and
prevent the shutter from being completely wound.
