when the positive film is wound on. Moke sure thot the positive film winds
on properly by turning the knob f of the spool (fig. 3) in the direction of the
orrow. At regulor intervolso slight clickingwill be heord, from o detent spring
on the toothed sprocket. After one click the positive film is moved on by the
length of the stondord cine size l8 x 24 mm (1x 3/r in.); the second click
indico*es thot the film is moved on by the length of the LEICA size
24x36 mm (l'/z x 1 in.).
C. lnserfing fhe Negotive Film
l. When the film ottochment is roised two little diogroms of houses ore seen
engroved on the film trock e (fig. 3), one horiz_ontollyond the other verticolly
positioned. These two diogroms ore meont to show how the single negotive
imoges must be orronged in the imoge operture,so thot lhey con be printed
os horizontol or upright pictures ond con be proiected loter in the proper
sequencewith our semi-outomoticminiotureproiecfors.
2. The position of the sketchedhouseswill cleorly indicote the correct woy of
insertingthe negotive film. The diogrom of the houseot the right hond side
con be rototed.Adhering to this procedureguoronteesoll negotives, especiolly
the verticol ones,to be positionedcorrectlyond copied in o uniform woy on
the completefilm strip. When copying o complete Leico film, token with the
comero in the normol position, the lost negotiveswhich ore to form ogoin the
end of the film strip, ore to be printed os the first ones. The some is to be soid
obout printing single negotives;those to form the end of the film strip ore to
be printed first.
3. Consideringthese points, the negotive is to be fixed to the receiving spool
in o woy to hove its emulsionside focing the emulsionof the positivefilm. The
two springsot the side hold single negotives. They ore pushedunderneothfrom
the front ond not sidewise. The picture frqme ollows the numbersof the nego-
tive film to be copied simultoneously.
4. The film is then wound on to one of the two film spools, the end is drown
through the film guide, fostenedon to the secondspool ond the lotter turned
until the first negotive to be printed lies in the imoge operture. The film must
be wound up with the cooted side inwords on both spools.

D. festing fhe Negofive Densily 1. When the negotiveto be printed is correctly ploced in the imoge operture in the light of the red lomp, the white light is switched on by pressingthe button switch q (fig. 2), so thot the density of the negotive con be observed. The strength of the light-sourceis then increosedor decreosedby turning the reguloling knob b (fig.2), to suit the densityof the negotive. The reguloting knob corries o scole morked from I to l0 olthough it is normolly used only up to the mork 8 or 8.5. When working with the opporofus for the first time it is best to moke o number of tests with negotivesdiffering in density to determin the intensily of light ond time of exposure. To compensote for differences in density it is odvisoble to increoseor reduce the intensityof light, keeping the exposure constont. 2. After observing the density of the negotive cleon the positive ond negotive films with o soft comel-hoir brush ond remove ony smoll porticlesof dust which otherwiseore onnoyingwhen proiectingf he positivefilm. The film housing now is lowered so thot the positivefilm pressesogoinst fhe negolive film. E. Exposure l. The exposure is mode by pressingthe switch s (fig.2). The slide printer is olso equipped for use with on exposure timer, which is connected to the plug e (fig. 2). The ordinory types of exposure timer (Hirschtimer) ore to be shorted by meons of o short-circuitplug. 2. After the exposure, the film housing is ogoin roised ond the positivefilm moved on by turning the knob f of the spool (fig. 3) in the direction of the orrow by one click for o l8 x 24 mm. f rome or two clicksfor o 24x36 mm. f rome.View original page 6

Moking 2" x2" LEICALonternSlides
1. Ploce the lontern slide ottochmenton the bose housing ond fix in ploce
os shown in fig. 1.
2. Wind the negotive film to be printed with the cooted side inwords on one
of the film spools h (fig. 2) ond possthe end of the film - cooted side upwords -
through the film guide, the pressurebridge being roised (fig. l).
3. Wind up the end of the film on the secondfilm spool, cooted side inwords,
till the first negotive to be printed covers the imoge operture.
4. Connect the opporotus to the moins with the plug f (fig. 2), when the red
lomp will light up. Switchoff oll white light in the dorkroom.
' 5. When the negotive to be printed is correctly odiusted in the imoge operture
its density is observed by the light of the white lomp, os described under
porogroph D I of the directionsfor moking positivefilms.
6. Cleon the negotivefilm ond the gloss lontern slide with o soft comel-hoir
brush to remove ony dust porticles.
7. The 2x2in. (5x5cm.) lontern plote is now loid foce down on the negolive,
being set in the correct positionby guiding pegs.
8. Then the pressurebridge is lowered, when the rubber-cushionedpressure
plote will bring the lonternslide in firm contoct with the negotive. The lontern
plote is mode to lie stroight by meons of the oblique spring pins, so thot the
imoge is olwoys printed porollel to the sides of the plote.
9. The exposure is mode by pressing the switch (fig. 2). When on exposure
timer is used pleose refer to porogroph E I of the foregoing instructions.

4x4 cm. the film guide with LEICA operture is removed, ofter the two milled
screws hove been screwed out, ond reploced by o guide with on operlure
of the required size.
ContoctPrintson Poper
The lontern slide ottochmentin coniunctionwith the metol pressureploie sup-
plied for the purpose is olso suitoble for moking contoct prints on bromide
poper, cut into piecesobout 2x2ins. (5x5 cm.). The procedure is the some os
with 2x2 inch glossslides.
Replocingthe Lomps
The two lomps in the bose housing con eosily be unscrewed ond removed ofter
toking off the plote holding the opol gloss d (fig. 2), which is held in ploce by
two milled screws. The milled screwsore, of course, undone by hond.
To comply with sofety regulotions, the red terminol g (fig. 2) ollows eorthing
