1. INSERTING THE BATTERY
Open the Battery Compartment Cover on the base of the
camera by turning the cover counterclockwise with a coin
 (Fig. 2).
With the (+) sign facing you, insert one 1.3V mercury
battery (Mallory PX-675 or Eveready EPX-675), replace the
cover, and turn it clockwise until tight (Fig. 3).
o Carefully wipe the contacts of the battery before
 inserting it into the compartment.
o Under normal circumstances, the life of a mercury
 battery exceeds one year.
o lf it is found that the meter needle does not move when
the camera is aimed at a bright subject, replace the battery
with a new one.
o When replacing a battery, be sure to obtain the correct
type.
o When the camera is not used for a long period of time,
remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.
2. LOADING THE FILM
 1. Open the Film Compartment Door by pulling up the
   Rewind Knob (Fig.4).
2. Drop the film cartridge into the compartment and
rotate the Rewind Knob until it drops down and locks
the cartridge in place (Fig. 5).
3. Insert the film leader into one of the slots in the
   Take-up SOool (Fig. 6).
4. Slowly advance the film by moving the Film Advance
Lever and be sure that the perforations on both sides of
the film are caught by the teeth on the Film Advance
   Sprockets (Fig.7).
5. Close the Film Compartment Door and advance film a
single stroke and depress the Shutter Release Button
after each stroke (Fig.8). Continue this until the
figure "1" appears in the Exposure Counter Window
    (Fig.9).
6. As the film is advanced through the camera the Rewind
Knob will turn in a counterclockwise direction, indicat-

4. AUTOMATIC EXPOSURE PHOTOGRAPHY
1. Turn the Auto/Flash Ring until "Auto" is aligned with
(Fig. point index 12). the { camera Point the the subject you want to photo- at2.
graph. The aperture and the shutter speed will be
   automatically determined and set.
3. When taking pictures with automatic exposure control,
make certain that the meter needle falls within correct
   exposure area.
4. When the meter needle falls into the under-exposure
warning area, you must switch the camera to flash
photography as your subject is too dark to photograph
   bv existing light.
5. lf the meter needle falls into the over-exposure warning
area, adjust the exposure with an ND (Neutral Density)
f ilter, as your subiect is too bright.

2. Zone focusing is also possible for quick focuSing. Zone
focusing marks located under part of the focusing ring
    (Fig. 15).
Turn the Focusing Lever and align a focusing mark with

     (meter) (1) (1.5) (3) (infinity)
The bright frame line in the viewfinder determines the
area within which your subject will be accurately
framed at inf inity focus. When pictures are taken at the
closest possible distance of 3.3 feet, put your subject
within the inner close-up correction mark.
When the focusing distance is approximately 1Sft (5m)
and the meter needle points to f/5.6 or a smaller stop
(i.e. f/8, Il14l on the aperture scale, everything from
approximately 10 feet (3m) to infinity will be in sharp
    focus.
6. HOLDING THE CAMERA
Holding the camera steady is very important in obtaining
sharp photographs. Hold the camera steady with both
hands and lightly press it against your forehead. To release
the shutter, gently depress the Shutter Release Button with
your f inger (Fig. 1 6).
For a vertical-format picture, the camera should be held

Button and the Film Advance Lever can be operated with
one's thumb (Fig. 17).
7. FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
For f lash photography, use the Bell & Howell 1350
electronic flash to insure adequate illumination. By attach-

Take the pictures at a distance of 7 to 15 feet. Set the
ON-OFF switch to ON (red) position (Fig. 19). The battery
current is then on and an oscillating sound will be heard
from the flash unit as the unit charges.
When full charge is achieved, the ready light (green) will
glow in the viewfinder, and the unit is ready to flash.
When the flash unit is not used, turn the switch to the OFF
(blue) position to prevent unnecessary drain of the bat-
teries.

not be assured.
