Power Supply
Power Supply (
Power supply is obloined from six mono (dry-"D") cells 1.5 Volt. They do nol require ony
porliculor core ond ore on inexpensive power source. You con use ony brond of bolferies, (
but if possible use mono cells fleok prooff designed for flqsh use, since lhese will give
more flqshes ond shorler recycling limes lhon lhose designed primorily for household use.

lhe mono (dry) cells ore ptoced in o comportmenl seporofed from fhe eleclricot porls of
your MECABLITZ. The {lop of this bollery comporlrnenl con be opened by lurning lhe
2 holding screws o quorler woy round. Inserl lhe bolleries os per morking inside lhe cose.
A quick woy lo do this is lo insert the bqtleries ogoinst lhe conlocl springs firsl ond lhen
inserl lhe olher cells wifh o forword push.
About 8-12 seconds offer operoling lhe on-off swilch lhe reody-lo-flosh-indicolor lights
up. Af lhis very momenl the MECABLITZ hos reoched the full light oulpul. Should the indi-
color nol glow, lhe bolleries ore exhousled ond musl be reploced. lt is odvisoble lo
remove exhousled bolferies from lhe cose even when lhey cre nol immediolely reploced.
Remember; dischorged bqlleries will leok! l{ you do nol use your MECABLITZ regulorly,
il is recommended fo remove even {resh bofleries. lt is {urther recommended lo reploce l

Preparing lo flash
How lo connecl flqsh heqd wilh cqmero.
Using fhe siie mounling brockel (7) supplied with eoch unil you con oltoch lhe flqsh heod
(6) to eilher lhe right or lefl side of your comero. (On lhis brockel you will find lwo lhreqded
hofes 1/+ inch qnd 3/s inch lhreod. The thumb screw which fifs your cqmero should be le{f
in lhe brockel qll lhe time,) Finolly moke sure fhe reflector is properly oligned with lhe
comero lens when you ore reody lo lqke q shol. The lhreoded holes in the brockel cqn
olso be ulilized lo otloch comercr ond flosh lo o lripod, il so desired. lf your cqmerq hqs
on occessory shoe ond you wonl lo ploce the flosh heod on lhe comero wilhoul q brcckel
you con use on odoplor which is ovqiloble os o seporole unil.
How lo connecl syndtlo-cobte.
The synchro=ptug (10) should be connecled lo your comero in o monner lhol does nol
ollow fhe coble lo dongle in {ronf of lhe lens. Cerlqin comeros will require qn oddilionol
odoplor, which is obloinoble ol mosl phologrophic deolers, however, lhe Mecoblifz synchro-
plug will direclly {it the mojorily of comeros. lf your comerq hos o {ully synchronised
nXo.shuffer, lhen sel lhe shulter lever lo Some comeros hove more fhqn one flosh connec-
lion, if so, olwoys use lhe conneclion morked 'X". Undet no citcumslonces should the
Mecqblilz be used on conneclion mqrked "M".

To delermine the lens opening o melhod colled oGuide number system" is used, Belween
the guide numbers, lens operlure ond lhe dislonce lhere is o relolion expressed qs Iollows:
Lens opening - Guide number divided by Dirrance.
Eoch lype of film h'cs o differenl sensilivily or emulsion speed roling, ond lhe guide number
depends on lhe porliculor roling of lhe film used. For furlher informofion regording guide
n u m b e r s y o u w i l l f i n d f o b l e s o f l h e e n d o f t h i s b o o k l e t g i v i n g c o m p l e l e d e l o i l s .
To proceed with lhe explonolion of thg :guide number sysfem, lel us ossume you hove
f'ound in lhe tobles lhe proper guide numiber for your film ond hove dividud ihe guide
number by the dislonce in melers (or feet) ond hqve lhe resullonl number which is your
lens opening. l'f lhe num,ber obloined does nol correspond exoclly wilh one shown on your
lens lhen use lhe nexl lorger opening (nexl smoller number). You cqn qlso use hqlf slops if

Becquse lhe light oulpul of your Mecoblilz is so powerful il is no longer necessory lo
overdevelop the negolives by 500/o os compored wilh negolives mode by sunlighl. The
guide numbers listed ore volid for NORMAL ond nol exlended developing lime. piclures
mode with sunlighl ond flosh piclures con now be on lhe sorne roll of film ond developed
for lhe some omounl of fime, wilh no loss of quolity.

lf you wish lo illuminole lorge subjecls in depfh or in dork rooms (for exomple o long
engine in o focfory) lix your cqmero on o tripod ond open lhe shuller ol lhe smollesl
operlure. Then loke your Mecoblitz qnd flosh by hond releose severol limes. You musf,
of course, move your slondpoinl wilh eoch flosh.

And now o brief word obout lhe self-illuminoling sunlighl filter of your Mecoblilz. As you
probobly know, lhe whife light o{ lhe sun ond olso o{ the flosh is composed of differenl }
colours. The so-colled roinbow-colours ore of di{ferenl slrenglh in lhe sun ond in lhe flosh.
ln the flosh the mojor porl of the lighl is blue, in lhe sun lhe yellow porl predominoles.
l{ you pul on ordinory yellow filter in lront of the {losh lube porl of lhe blue roys will be

lures foken wilh doylighl coloui film, which is bolonced for sunlighl, ore olwoys colour-lrue.
Do nol lepqir it yourself:
lf your Mecoblilz is nol working properly, do nol ollempl lo loke il oporf yourself. This
con be dongerous becouse of the high voltoge involved. lf the cqble lo lhe flosh heod is
domoged do nol use lhe unil until fhe cqble hos been reploced. Under no circumslonces
should you louch ony exposed wires of lhe coble when the unil is chorged os fhese lines
corry 500 Volts.
