Extra close up shot is not a problern in Minolta SR series cameras for these
cameras can be focussed at as close as 50 centimeters (1.5 feet) in front of
the object parallax free with critical focussing, without any attaihment.
There are many cases, ltowever, extreme close up shots are required, such as
macrophotography. (Macrophotography means making pictures of the objects
in one'tenth of natural size to twenty five time as large as the object.) For
lllgse- requirements, usually extension rings or extension bellow are usid, andMinolta SR series carneras are ideal for these extreme close up shots be6ause
parallxa error is eliminated in these cameras, since they are single reflex cameras.
Minolta SR Extension Bellow, model I, has the magnification scale for standard
lens (Rokkor 55mm F 1.8 or F 2) and telephoto lens Rokkor (100mm F 3.b or
F4). The magnification ratio is from x0.8 to x2.4 in standard lens and x 0.4to x 1.3 in telephoto lens.
With this new device, you can extend the picture taking field to a large degree,
and increase the versatility of the camera surprisingly.

Magnification scale is visible on the sides of supporting pillar. Left side scale is
for 55 mm lens and the other for 100 mm telephoto lens. This magnification index
is the key for calculating exposure factor and camera distance, as described in the
tables on pages 3 and 4.

The front board of the extension
bellow is set to the desired index
of the scale.

In the extreme close up shot with extension rings and bellows, the lens is extended to
a greater than normal distance from the film, so special attention should be paid in
exposure.

The F value engraved on the lens barrel is calculated in its normal distance from the
film. As the lens is extended out, the incident light onto the film decreases to a large
degree, hence exposure increase is required. Exposure multiple shows a multiplication
of exposure.
If the exposure factor is x 2, exposure value measured by a light meter will be doubled,
which is effected by opening iris of the lens one full stop or changing the shutter
speed twice as slow.

          (2) Attoching the comero
Fasten the camera attaching ring be means
of a small knob which is on top of the
device. The camera sinks into the ring as
the red dots on the device and that on the
camera face each other, then turn the
camera clockwise approximately one eighth
turn, for fixing the camera firmly.
Camera is easily detached by pressing the
release knob of the camera, in the same
way as the camera lens is detachen.
The ring, in which the camera is attached.
can be tilted to any angle by loosening the
top screw. Fasten the screw at the desired
position. (In this way, the camera can be
fastened either horizontally or verticallv).

(4) Extension ond focussing

The bellow is extended by means of focussing knob (marked Focus in green) and

focussed.

(5) Tripod

It is advisable to use tripod in the extreme close up shots, and the tripod can be attach-
ed either to the camera body or tripod screw on the device.

    * In the extreme close up shots, smaller iris stop is recommended since the depth of
field is very shallow. For critical focussing, use magnifier for the SR camera.
x The lens not being attached directly to the eamera in this extension bellow. the
    pre-set device is not available.
r Camera and object movement will spoil the sharp negative, and the tripod and cable
release should be used. Be careful to the breeze, which moves flowers, and drives
insects away. To keep the object away from unfavorable background, you may open
the iris to some degree, by using faster shotter speed, so that these background will
   be out of focus.
x Incidcnt type light meter is better than reflective type, for extreme close ups, as
the former reads the light value of smaller objects more precisely.
   * Angle finder for Minolta SR camera is an useful accessory for extension bellow
   photography.
