advancing properly, the rewind knob is first turned slightly to take up any play in the film; then if
the advance lever is wound the rewind knob should rotate. But if the rewind knob fails to turn it indi-
cates that the film is not properly loaded and requires reloading.

muss zueist die Rtickspulkurbel betitigt werden, damit der Film in der Patrone angezogen wird. Bei
Betitigung des Filmaufzugshebels muss sich die Rrickspulkurbel drehen. Sollte dies nicht cler
Fall slin, funktionniert der Filmtransport nicht. Der Film muss neu eingelegt rverden.

frame. Insuflicient winding may make the shutter button unworkable, or even if it does work it rnay
not permit proper opening of the shutter curtain. This point requires careful attention.
One full winc-ling also cocks the shutter and changes the color in the signal window from white to red.
It returns to white again when the shutter is released.

The fully automatic diaphragm of Miranda is of special construction which keeps the lens wide openffiffiWffiall the time to provide a very bright viewfinder for easi/ picture composition and speedy adjustment
of focus.
When the shutter button is pressed, the diaphragrn automatically closes down to the aperture to
which the lens has been set beforehand and makes the shutter work only at thal aperture. But when
the shutter closes, the diaphragm automatically opens up again.
The viewing can therefore be done at open aperture all the time. But if one desires to actually check
the effects of a given aperture on the image, a special lever on the lens barrel can be used. This is
the preview button, which, when depressed, stops down the diaphragm temporarily to the aperture
which has been pre-selected so that the depth of field and background blurs can be directly checked.

1. Ineert the mercury battery
The mercury battery, which comes together in a separate package, is inserted into the battery chamber.
The meter cannot function without this battery.
r. Take off the cover of battery chamber by unscrewing it anti-clockwise.
z. Insert the battery with the plus (f) side facing up, then close the cover.
), When switch is turned on, the meter will function.
Take care not to misplace the battery's plus (f) and minus (-) sides.
One battery can be used for about two years, at the end of its life the voltage drops suddenly, at
which time the battery must be replaced.
If the meter is not used for some time, remove the mercury battery,

A. Take off shutter dial.
To attach the Miranda Meter, the shutter dial must be taken off.
The shutter dial comes off easily, by inserting the edge of a coin into the screw slot in the center
and turning anti-clockwise. Hold the rim of the dial with fingers to prevent rotating together.
When taking off the shutter dial it makes no difference what speed is set.
To reattach the speed dial, match the little screw-head in its bottom to the coupling slot on camera
body, then tighten the screw.

A. Abnahme der Verschlusszeiten-Wahlscheibe um den MlRANDA-Belichtungsmesser aufzusetzen.
Die Wahlscheibe lasst sich leicht entfernen, lvenn man mit einer, im Schraubschlitz in der Mitte,
eingesetzten Munze im Gegen-Uhrziegersinn dreht und mit einem Finger die Wahlscheibe fest
halt um eine Mitrotation der Wahlscheibe zu verhindern.
Wenn die Wahlscheibe abgenommen wird, spielt es keine Rolle, ob und welche Verschlusszeit
eingestellt ist.
Die Wahlscheibe wird wieder aufgesetzt, wenn man wie oben beschrieben, im Gegensinn verfahrt
und der Finger in die Nut am Kameragehause passt.

5. Obtaining the proper exposure

A. When setting the shutter speed first:
Match the shutter speed to the red shutter speed index in the center of the meter scale and use the
aperture value indicated by the meter needle to set the lens aperture.
B. When setting the lens aperture first:
When the aperture is first set, turn the meter dial until the needle indicates the same aperture number,
then the shutter speed will be automatically set. (The number which comes against the red shutter
index is the shutter speed).
If the shutter dial does not click into position, set it to the nearest number and adjust the lens
aperture.
Take care to prevent camera movement when using shutter speeds of slower than I/3e second.
Generally, when depth of field is more important, set the aperture first. When shooting subjects
of quick movements, set the shutter speed first.
The meter coupies to the shutter dial from r-rooo speed readings but not at B (bulb).

A. Wenn die Verschlusszeit zuerst eingesteilt wird:
Stellen Sie die Verschlusszeit zum roten Verschlusszeiten-Index in der Mitte der Belichtungsmesser
skala und lesen Sie den Lichtwert, welcher durch die Nadel angezeigt wird, ab und stellen sie die-
Blende ein.
B. Wenn die Blende zuerst eingestellt wird:
Wenn die Blende zuerst eingestellt wird, dann drehen Sie die Wahlscheibe bis die Nadel auf die Gleiche
Blendenzahl zeigt und die Verschlusszeit ist automtaisch eingestellt. (Die Zahl welche sich auf dem
roten Verschlussindex zeigt, ist die Verschlusszeit.)
Wenn der Verschlusszeiter-r-Wahlknopf nicht in seine Position einrastet, dann setzen Sie ihn zur
ndchsten Zahl un stellen Sie die Blende ein.
Bewegen Sie die Kamera nicht, wenn Sie Verschlusszeiten niedriger als 1/36 Sekunde einstellen.
Im Allgemeinen, wenn die Tiefenscharfe wichtiger ist, dann steilen Sie die Blende zuerst ein.
Wenn Aufnahmen mit schneller Bewegung gemacht werden sollen, dann die Verschlusszeit zuerst.
Der Belichtungsmesser kuppelt die Verschlusszeit von I-Iooo, aber nicht B (Langen Verschluss).

The mirror is of course of the quick-return type which causes an extremely short viewfinder black-out
during shutter action. Due to its original construction, the mirror mechanism on MIRANDA Fv is
particularly quick-acting and the viewfinder black-out at shutter speeds of tlt5 second or faster lasts
no longer than the blinking of an eye.
The coupled action between the automatic diaphragm and the mirror too is very smooth, so that
when the shutter button is pressed:
(r) The diaphragm closes down to the preselected aperture (z) Almost simultaneously the mirror
swings up, (l) Foliowed by opening of the shutter curtains and film exposure, (4) Then, the
shutter closes, mirror returns to normal position and the lens diaphragm re-opens fully.
All the abore actions are instantaneous.

Der zeitliche Ablauf der Aufnahme ist wie folgt:
(t) Die Blende wird zum vorgewehlten Blendenwert gescl-rlossen.
(z) Gleichzeitig schwingt der Spiegel nach oben.
(;) Der Schlitzverschluss ldsst den Strahlengang zur Belichtung des Films frei.
(+) Der Schlitzverschluss schliesst sich, der Schrvingspiegel kornrr-rt in seine Ausgangslage zutiick
und die Blende ciffnet sich.
All diese Vorgdnge erfolgen in einem Augenblick.
