Welcome to the Norman family of quality interchangeableflash equipment!
You have just purchased the new Norman 202 flash unit that will provide
you with years of dependable service. It has a compact 200 watt-second
circuit housed in a steel chassis. The 2O2 has severalexclusiue features, plus
other conveniences available only on units costing up to three times as
much:
(-fl) fwo lamphead outlets with infinitely variable modeling light and flash
outputs that operate together in one control or may be operated
completely independent of each other over a 2 f/stop range.
a ratio feature that allows you to vary the flash outputs with one0)
Iamphead always 2 f/stops geater than the other.
an solid-state plug-in circuitry for dependableoperation and easyKD
servlcrng.
([) Ur"Ule either on a flat surface or fastened to a stand for true portability.
(00 tnterchangeable with the complete Norman series 450 equipment line
which includes over 50 items-lampheads, reflectors, barn doors, dif-
fusers, snoots, umbrellas, etc.

Power/Function Switch: A three position "rocker" switch that controls both
the AC power and the flash output distribution.

connector is used. This full power
can be reduced by adjusting the
Dual Dimmer Dial (seepage 3). L E F T
2) Two lights- Receive equal power
(100 w-s each). This power can also t=-5=l be reduced with the Dual Dimmer

c. Right position-Output I is connected directly to the flash circuit
and output 2 is connected through a reduction circuit.
I ) One light- Receives full power on
output 1. If you use one light on
output 2 it will be at half power
t r ( 100 w-s). However, the recom-
mended method for obtaining half lffiH
power on one light is to use the l t r I
light on output I and adjust the 200 100

peated flashing using only output 2 TWO R I G H T

2) Two lights-Output I receives150 w-s and output 2 receives30
w-s. This way you can boosl the light output into an umbrella
(where you need it), and subtract the light output from the
accent light (where you don't need it). This provides you with
excellent lighting balance and eliminates the necessity of pur-
chasing additional equipment to operate the second light (refer
to the photograph on page 5). The power levels can still be
equally reduced with the Dual Dimmer Dial.

outputs vary together in direct ratio. You also have the unique
flexibility of being able to raise or lower the overall modeling lamp
brilliance without changing the flash output. This is a real asset when
photographing people where the modeling lamps are uncomfortably
bright for the subject, or when the flash output is on low power and you
need more light to focus on the subject.

the lights will increase or decreasein direct proportion to the dial.

ON Indicator: Glows red when the Power/Function Switch is on and when
power is reaching the circuit. This light is a solid-state LED (light
enrittingdiode) and has no filament to burn out.
RDY Indicator: Glows green when the circuit reaches 100% voltage stabi-

setting, the RDY Indicator (also an LED) will switch off, and remain
off, until the unit has automatically adjusted to the new setting. Unit
can be adjusted to new level faster by setting knob and flashing once.
---6odetingFUSE: 3 amp, 3AG, SLO-BLO type. If the ON Indicator goes off but the,-
tigtrt in the lamphead remains on, the fuse is probably-blown$ - Fuses are available at most electronic supply stores or directly from
Norman Enterprises.
SYNC Outlet: Triggers the flash. Plug your camerasync extension cord into
this outlet. Proper sync cord polarity is important with most cameras
(cameraswith grounded sync contacts). To check the polarity, simply
touch any exposed(non-paintedand non-anodized)metal on the camera
body to any exposed (non-painted and non-anodized) metal on the flash
unit. If the unit flashes when this is done, reverse the sync cord to
achieve the correct polarity. This establishesa common ground between
the camera body and the flash unit. If the polarity is incorrect, the unit
could self flash or flash intermittentlv.
