Film Looding

 l.  The OLYMPUS Comero occepts ony stondord 35mm
     cortridge or the Olympus Mogozine Type P.
2.   Pull up sliding lock ot side of comero ond reor cover
    snops open.
3.  Hold f ilm ond comero os illustroted in upper photo ond

4.   Pull up on rewind knob so cortridge fits into chomber.
    Push down on rewind knob, gently ond with slight
     twist, until knob engoges cortridge.
5.   Actuolly use rewind knob to toke up slock in film ond
     until sprockeis cotch in sprockel holes.

6.  Close ond lock reor cover.
7.  Exposure Counter : When cover is closed, counler
    shows "S" for stort. Use ropid wind lever qnd wind
    film ond click shutter, then releose shutter. Do this
    twice, bringing exposure counter to f, l.  Then You're
    reody for shooting.
       During these 2 proctice winds, be sure rewind knob
    turns in onti-clockwise direction, showing   f ilm proceed-
    ing right. Before shooting the roll, odiust the Light
   Volue Diol on bock of comero for proper ASA film
    speed,

 f stop diol. These ore colled LIGHT VALUE NUMBERS ond ronge from 2 through 17 on this
 OLYMPUS WIDE SUPER. The reor cover of the Comero olso shows Light Volue Numbers, ronging
                    from 6 through 18. set the shutter speed Diol on I second, ond the tlsrop
                          diol on f/2.
                              In the LIGHT VALUE WINDOW APPEARS "2".  As the lens opening is
                   chonsed from Fl2 to f/16 the LIGHT VALUE NUMBERS CHANGE ARITH_
                 METICALLY FROM I through 8.  Now reset the diols to I second ot fl2,
                       bringing the Light volue Window 1o "2" ogoin. This time chonge the shutter
                  speed only, up tot/ru,,.  The Light Volue Number is chonged to  ll.   A
                        tlght Volue System

                        specific LIGHT VALUE moy be obtoined by keeping constont the f/stop oR
                      the shutter speed, depending on the requirements of your subiect.
                          This system is bosed on o LIGHT VALUE NUMBER oF 0 when SHUTTER ls
                 AT I SECOND ond LENS lS AT tl1.  Since progressions ore oriihmetic, certoin
                       Light volue Numbers connot oppeor properly in the window becouse tf s of o
second is NCT holf of r/3 second, ond r/.15 of o second is NOT holf of 1/16 second. HOWEVER ALL
THESE LIGHT VALUE NUMBERS ARE in proper relotion to the light entering the film. THIS OLYMPUS

    In ordinory comeros the shutter speed diol ond the f/stop diol turn ot the some time, ond ore

"proper" exposure is relotive, ond depends on the photogropher's creolive desires. Cne photo-

THE OLYMPUS ALLOWS THIS TO BE DONE. THE OLYMPUS ADVANCED LIGHT VALUE SYSTEM

How to Use the Light Volue Diol on fhe Gomercr Bsck:

   After setting the proper ASA film speed, turn the diol so it  is
odiusted to the existent weother conditions. (tf it is o street scene ond
the ASA film speed is 100, the Light Volue Number reods 14") This
Number "l4"  is effective, however, only from 9AM to 3PM during
Morch, April, September ond October.  lf shooting from November
through Februory, the proper Light Volue Number is "13".  For Moy,
July ond August it becomes "l5".   These self-explonotory odiustments
give you the proper Light Volue Number for oll normol purposes, ond
the OLYMPUS system is bosed upon eose of operotion, speed of use,
ond utmost occurocy. lllustrotions show how eosy it is to get proper
Light Volue Number.

 How to Use the Olympus light Volue System

    After determining the proper LV Number, decide which is
more importont to you-shufter speed to stop oction, or smoll lens
diometer to goin greot depth of field.   lf you wont to stop oction,
set shutter ot t/r,,,, ond move f/stop diol until Number l4 oppeors
in LIGHT VALUE WINDOW. This will bring lens opening to f/5.6.
At t/.rt,, lens opening is f/8.   lf more depth of field is desired,
f/16 moy be set first ond then the shutter speed diol moved until
LIGHT VALUE NUMBER l4 oppeors, which would be ot obout  r/:,,r
second.
      It, during shooting lime, light on the subiect suddenly chonges
(such os clouds hiding the sun) the shutter speed diol or ihe f/stop
diol moy be immediotely moved to compensote for the chonge of
light. For exomple, if using r/:1r second ot f/8 (LIGHT VALUE
NUMBER l4), ond the sun becomes hidden by o cloud, quickly

Automqtlc Fllm Winding System

    Film winder outomoticolly performs oll these functions with o single 120 degree stroke:
                                        '.'.' winds film to next exposure
                                    .^.' counts exposure on counter
                                        '.'.' cocks shutter
                                        '.'.' prevents occidentol double exposure
   After setting proper f/stop ond shutter speed, ond ofter lens if focussed, moke full 120 degree
stroke of winder (ollowing hondle to spring bock to position), ond press shutter releose button.  lt
is impossible to wind film until film is exposed. This is lrue comero outomotion. Film winding
lever moy be left in 45 degree ongle for quick ond eosy use. (See right holf of illustrotion,)

                                      To obtoin double or triple exposures  f or
                                                           trick shots, moke the first exposure, then press
                                            rewind BUTTON AT BASE OF CAMERA while
                                                using  f ilm winding lever. This cocks shutter

The Golden Brlght-Frome Flnder
                           The OLYMPUS WIDE CAMERA embodies o new principte of
                               rongefinder/viewfinder optics. Eosy sighting is now possible with
                              the OLYMPUS oversized finder, eliminoting squinting ond stroin
                     on the photogropher's eye. A new Golden Frome within the
                             viewer itself shows you exoctly whot will be within the picture.
                               Regordless of whot ongle your eye is ot, the Golden Frome is
                           occurote. (See illustrotion ot left)
                                        ln oddition to these odvontoges, the OLYMPUS FINDER outomo-
                                     ticolly corrects for PARALLAX. Regordless of the distonce being

                                           Focusing lever on lens borrel controls o helicoid motion
                                    principle. The combined viewf inder/rongef inder in the
                             OLYMPUS ollows you to focus ond compose ot one ond the
                             some time. When the double imoge in the center of
                                     viewfinder coincides exoctly with itself (with the yellow
                                  imoge superimposing the normol imoge) you ore sure of being
                                      in proper focus. Be sure the yellow squore covers thot
                                         port of the subiect you wont in focus. The distonce scole
                                                   is engroved on the lens borrel os 2.2 feet, 2.5', 3', 4' 7',
                                            l5' ond Infinity.

Fixed Focus Shootlng
    Lenses with shorter focol length feoture greoler depth-of-
field, thot is, the greoter oreo of shorp focus. This is why
such kinds of lenses ore suitoble for snop shot.
   Set the operture ot red mork of 8 ond the distonce ot l5 ft,
then everything is in shorp focus  f rom 7 ft to inf inity.
    For usuol out door snop shooting this combinotion is very
usef ul ond there is no need of worrying obout focusing. Select
your obiect or obiects through the view finder ond releose the

Flqsh Synchronlzqtlon

    Flosh bulbs for o lens shutter ore clossified into lwo closses,
closs M ond Closs F. A closs M bulb reoches its moximum light
output obout 20 milliseconds ofter the electric current storts to
flow (in other words, time-to-peok for o closs M bulb in 20
milliseconds).
   The time-to-peok for o closs F bulb is usuolly l0 milliseconds'
An electronic  f losh or o strobe light hos procticolly no time deloy'                                                                        gynchro plug    MX chonge leverTo meet the demond for using ony kind of bulbs oformeniioned,
the shutter must hqve some device to regulote the time to stort flow of electric current.
l.  Using o closs M bulb;
    Set the synchro tever ot the mork M, ond the flosh synchronizes ot oll speeds. DO NOT USE A
   CLASS F BULB OR A STROBE LIGHT AT THIS SETTING   !
2.   Using o Strobe light  ;
    Set the synchro lever ot X, ond the electronic flosh synchronized ot oll speeds.
    With this setting,
   A cfoss M bulbs con be used for o speed setting between l-'15  second, ond o closs F bulb
    between l-t/ro second.
   When the synchro lever is set ot X, electric current storts to flow when the shutter is f ully opsn.
3.   Using o closs F bulb  ;
    Set the synchro lever ot F.  The shutter is fully open l0 milliseconds ofter the rtort of current
         f low.

   The Olympus Wide Angle lens hqs o focol length of 35mm
(3.5cm). This short focol length offords greot depth of field,
which you con use to odvontoge when there is not time to
focus before eoch shot.  For exomple: set the distonce
scofe ot l5 feet. When using on f/stop of Il8, this procticol
ronge of shorpness gives the OLYMPUS odvontoges, which
ore mode greoter when f/l I or f 116 is used.
   The term shorpness, os used here, meons obsolute fidelity
ond resolulion. Only Olympus, wilh its 35mm Wide Angle
lens ot  f 12 hos the copobility to produce positive shorpness
over such o useoble depth of field oreo.
