3 Generalsafetyregulations
Generatorsstore electricalenergy in capacitors by applying
high voltages.ln case of connectingthe PORTY Flash Head to
the power pack these high voltageswill be also appliedto the
flash tube. These form a source of danger, which must be
carefullyexcluded.Besidesgeneral rules on handlingelectrical
appliances, the followingsafety measures must be observed.
Thereforeread and complythe safetyhints (also see paragraph
Startingup) withinthe user manualbefore turningthe appliance
on.
Properuse The presentFlash Head is meant for studio use of professional
photographers.lts task is to provideflash light.
lmproperuse The appliancemay not be used for any other purposethan that
describedabove,especiallynot for other electricalappliances.
Halogen lamps and flash tubes generate high pressure
during operation and can therefore explode. For this
reason it is a must to protect pilot and flash light with the
supplied correctly installed HENSEL protection glass
dome. The glass dome is available in different versions.
The use of the glass dome changes the colour temperature.
Contactwith the capacitorsvoltageis perilous,and therefore
opening of the case of the PORTY EHT Flash Head and
, repairsmust only be made by authorizedcustomerseryice.
PORTY EHT Flash Heads are equipped with a user
replaceable flash tube. Exchange of flash tube and
modeling lamp must only be effected with the appliance
turnedoff and disconnectedfrom the generator.
Only lamp connectorswith immaculatecontactsmust used,
burned orland corrodedcontactsmay cause explosionsin
the area of connectorsand lamp sockets.

must not be stored in the immediatevicinityof flash systems
to preventfire hazards.
Flash heads must be protectedagainsthumidityand spray
water.
Do not connectaccessoriesfrom other manufactures,even
if they use the same or similarconnectors.
Flash units - hangingfrom pantographsor ceiling- must be
doublysecuredagainstfallingdown.
Do not flash into eyes at short distance, because this can
lead to eye damage.
Do not look directlyinto the flash reflector, the flash lamp
could be triggeredinadveftently.
Regularly air closed rooms to prevent build-up of
inadmissibleozone concentrations, which can occur due to
the use of high-poweredflash systems.
During work in the studio generating much dust, the

7 Startingup
Safetv hints for operation with flash heads
To avoid damage to the flash tube mount reflectorsand light
former (soft boxes, etc.) before use and turning on the unit.
Do not move lamp heads around, while they are operating.
Turn off flash head and power pack for each change of
reflectorsor to move the lamp head to anotherlocation.
Caution:reflectors,speedringsand other accessoriesheat up
during longer operation. To avoid injuries, handle with
isolatingcloth or wait,till partscooleddown.
A damaged flash tube is extremely dangerous because
the electricallycharged electrodes are exposed and could
be touched. In case of a damaged flash tube, the flash
head has to be switched off and unpluqqed from the
generator immediately. Do not only turn off the flash
head, because the capacitors inside the generator may be
still charged and dangerous high voltage can be still
present at the damaged flash tube electrodes.
PORTY Heads are equipped with a user replaceable flash
tube. For replacementsee page 29, Maintenance.
Assemblv
When mounting to a ceiling system or a pantograph,
suspendedhead has to be double securedfrom fallingdown
or dropping. This is done by tighteningthe safety screw (not
included in the standard delivery) into the thread of the
HENSELTiltingHead.
Due to the existing safety regulations, it is, however,
necessaryto use a steel cord (Code No. 769) for further
security.
The safetyrope has to be led throughthe handleon the back of
the unit which then has to be fastenedon a suitablepaft of the
boom or the rail system.
