2. Explanationof the LiquidCrystalDisplay


  O  Analog Scale
       Displays measured values as icons along the apertures or Latitude EV scale The scale is graduated
         in full or 1/3 stop incremenls for measurements. Memorized and averaged values are also display
*      along the scale.
               .  Aperture scale (upper scale) displays in all mode except Aperture priority mode'
                     f 0.7 to f 90 in full stops appears in all modes except aperture priority mode (L'758)

3. BeforeUsing

1.  Attach the straP
         Attach the Strap @ by passing the small loop end through the
         eyelet @ and passing the other end of strap through it.




     WARNING
            To avoid a danger ol strangulation, please keep the slrap in a location where an infanl
             cannot reach it and accidentally get the strap wrapped around his or her neck.

2.  Inserting the batterY
     1.  Requiresone 3.0 v CR123Alithiumbattery(included).
     2. Open the Batterycompartmentcover latch@, and re-
      move the Batterycompartmentcover6.
      3.  Insertthe batteryobservingthe polaritywiththe +,- marks
          in the batterycompartment@.
      4.  Alignthe labs of the Batterycomparlmentcover with the
        nolchesin the back of the meter,and pressdown to close
        the Batterycompartmenlcover latch.

    NOTE:
             To prevent loss of All-weather seal, be careful that dirt does not get stuck on the rubber
               seal and thal the seal is not damaged.
            Bemove battery  if meter is not used for an extended period. Batteries can leak and
            damage the light meter. Dispose of used batteries properly.
                            lf the LCD does not light, check that the battery capacity is sufficient, and check that the
                battery positive and negative terminals are not reversed.
             The L-758D/L-758ClNE has a connector for a plug-in radio transmitter module. Do not
             remove the connector cover unless you are installing the radio module, failure to do so
               could cause the electronic circuit board to be exposed to damaging static electricity.

 3.  Checking  battery capacity
            .  When the Power button @ is ON, the battery power indicator on the LCD is displayed.
       m       (Displayed)  Battery power level is good.
       G       (Displayed)   Battery power level is low. Have a spare battery ready.
                    (Blinking)    Replace batterv immediately.          q#

        Reference:
                               .   lf the LCD screen turns off immediately after the display appears when power is first
                ' I                    applied, that is an indication that the battery is dead. Please promptly replace the batlery.
            We recommend you always have a spare battery on hand.
                               . A spare battery can be stored in a provided compartment of the L-75BDR's case (see
                       '                    sticker "OPEN END TO BACK".
                               . Under our testing condition, the batery  life is approximately 60 hours with continuous
                use under normal temPerature.
                               . The battery supplied with this light meter, may not be able to meet battery lile mentioned
                above because ol undetermined shell lile or storage condition.

3. BeforeUsing

4.  Replacing the battery during measurement  or when using the memory function
     1.  Always turn the power OFF belore replacing lhe battery. lf the battery is removed with lhe
        power ON, measurements and settings in memory can no longer be recalled.
     2.     lf after replacing the battery, or during measurements, strange screens (displays that have not
        been set) appear on the LCD, or nolhing happens, no matter what button is pushed, remove the
         battery and wait at least ten seconds and then replace the balterv. This allows lhe soflware to
         autcimalically reset.

                                '  Never place batteries in fire, short, disassemble, or heat them. The batteries might break
             down, and cause an accident, injury or pollute the environment.

   NOTE:
           A lhree second pause between power on and off is recommended to avoid damaqe to
               the meter.

    Auto Power Off function
     1.  To conserve battery power, lhe meter will turn ofl about twenty minutes after lasl use.
     2.  Whether the Auto Power Saving tealure turns the power off or the Power button rO is pressed,
         the settings and measured values remain stored in memory. When the Power bullon is pressed/
        again the last setlings are displayed.

       Reference:
                      ' The power shuts off automatically afler 1 minute when the power button is pressed and held.
               . Auto power off time is adjustable in Custom settings. (See page 40 for details)

6.  Setting ISO 1 sensitivity
     1.  Hold down lhe lSOl button 0  and lurn the Jog wheel
           (.5rto select the desired ISO sensitivity.
     2.  You can also change the ISO sensitivity after taking
      m e a s u r e m e n t s . T h e n e w v a l u e   i s a u t o m a t i c a l l y
         displayed.


     Setting ISO 2 sensitivity
     1 .  T h is le a t u r e  i s u s e f u l w h e n u sin g a d iffe re n t ISO
          sensilivity (film or digital), Polaroid proofing film, or for
        exposure correclion (when using a filter, extension
         tubes, bellows factor or another camera etc.).
     2.   Hold down the ISO 2 button @ and turn the Jog wheel
          to select the desired ISO sensitivity.
     3.  Once this is set, after laking a measurement, the mea-
        sured value for the second ISO sensitivity will be dis-
         played when lhe ISO 2 button is pressed.
     4.  You can also change the second ISO sensitivity after
         taking measurements. The new value is automatically
         displayed.

       Reference:
         The following settings are possible when using custom setting function P40.
          1 .  lt is possible to set ISO 2 lor Filter compensation. These values can be set within a range of
               t5 EV in 1/10 steps and are display in the ISO 2 area.
            2.  Filter factor number compensalion enables you lo set seven lypes of filters frequenlly used
                in the CINE industry.(Kodak Wralten Filters)(L-758ClNEonly)

3. BeforeUsing

        8.  Jog Wheel Lock or Lock Ofl
              1.  Hold down the Mode button @ and lSOl  button @
              and "LOC" will appear to indicate that the Jog Wheel is
                                         ' locked. The lasl measurement is held until the lock is
                 re l e a s e d , e v e n  i f  t h e Jo g wh e e l @  is a ccid e n ta lly
              moved.
              However, if the measurement button @ is pressed, a    -
            new measurement is displayed wilh the same locked
                 setltngs.





               2.  To release the Jog Wheel lock, perform the same op-
                eration for lhe Jog Wheel lock, Hold down the Mode
                 set button and lSO.l button and "Off " will appear to
                 indicate that the Joq Wheel lock is released.





              Reference:
                              .   ll power of the meter is turned off or auto off is activated when in the Jog Wheel locked position,
                  the lock function will continue operating when the rneter is turned on again.

    Incidentlightmeasuringis the measurementmethodthat
   employseitherthe Lumisphereor Lumidisctunctions.
   Measurementsshould be with the Lumisphereaimed

     2.  When the Lumisphereis extended.(3-D Light Measurement)
         This is used to measurepeople,buildings,and other three dimensionalobjects.
       Measurementsare basicallymade by the methodol measuringwith the lumisphereaimed in
         the camera direction(more precisely,in the directionof the lens axis) at the positionof the
          subject.
       When the Lumisphereis retracted(flat diffuserfunction)
         This is used to measuremanuscripts,paintingsor other flat copy.lt can also be used lor Contrast
         function(see page 32) or measuringillumination(see page 34).

    NOTE:
                          lf the lightmeteris usedwith the Lumisphereretraclingring in a middleposition,distributed
                 lightqualitywill change,and suitablemeasurementscannotbe made.
                         a  Do not push,theLumispheredown withyour fingeror hand.Alwaysuse the Lumisphere
                retractingring.
                          lf the lumispherebecomessoiled,wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Organic solutions(paint
               thinner,benzene,etc.)must not be used underany circumstances.

4.   Reflected Measurement Mode (spot metering)
    This melhod measures the brightness (luminance) of the
      light reflected from lhe subject. lt is useful lor distant objects
    such as landscapes, when you cannot go to the position
     of the subject, or for metering subjects lhat generate light
    (neon signs, etc.), highly reflective surfaces or translucent
    subjects (slained glass, elc.).





    1 .  Takelhe measurementby aligningthe circleinsidethe
        viewfinderwith the subjectarea to be measured.

      The black circle@ in the linder indicateslhe measure-
      ment range. The light receivingangle is 1 degree.

       Turn the eyepiece@ and adjust the diopter so that the circle in the finder is clearlyvisiblewhen
       you look into the finder.

   < Step-Up Ring (Lens Hood)> (optional)
      The step-up ring (30.Smm-+ 40.5mm),availableas an optionalaccessory,makes it possibleto
      mounl step-upringsand filters.This simpliliesthe settingof exposurewithoutthe troublesome
        correctioncalculationof polarizingfilters,etc. (see page 52)
      The step-up ring can also be used as a lens hood to prevenl lens flare and erroneouslioht
      measurementsfrom glare,it also protectsthe spot lens lrom scratching,soiling,etc.

5. Measurement

1.  Measuring ambient light
     In this measurement mode, we have the choice of shutter priority mode, aperture priority mode or
   EV mode. Hold down the Mode button @) and turn the Jog wheel O  to select ambient measurement
   m o d e S .

    1-1 Shutter Speed Priority mode
         1 .  Hold down the Mode button @ and turn the Jog
        tswheel O  to select Shutter Speed Priority mode





       2 .  Turn the Jog wheel to set the desired shutter
            speed.


         3.  P r e s s   t h e M e a s u r i n g b u t t o n G )  t o   t a k e a
            measurement. Release the Measuring button to
            complete the measurement. The measured value
              (aperture value) at that time will be displayed.

            While pressing the Measuring button, the meter

     Reference:
                        .   lt is possible to switch between full, 112 and 1/3 shutter speeds with custom setting
              (see page 36).
                         . You can set shutter speeds from 30 minutes to 1/8000 seconds. After 1/8000 the shutter
             speeds of ll2OO and 1l4OOcan be set.
                         .  After taking a measurement, the F stop value corresponding to the shutter speed is
               displayed. The measured F stop value automatically corresponds to the shutter speed
                           if the shutter speed is changed by rotating Jog wheel.
                         . The L-758DR1758D displays the measured aperture value in either full or 1/3 stop
              increments on the analog scale from tl0.7 to 90, while L-758 CINE displays it in either
                    full or 1/3 stop increments on the analog scale from F0.5 to F64.
                         . You can select aperture scale or EV scale by holding MODE button and pressing AVE.

                . You can set aperture from 0.5 to F161. Please note that in 1/3 stop increments F0 56 is
          drsplayed as 05 and F0.63 is displayed as 05.
                . EV scale appears on the analog scale. (Shutter speed scale is not displayed.)For details,
         please see page 48.
                .  After measurement, the shutter speed corresponding to the F stop is displayed when the
         F stop is changed with Jog Wheel.
                . Readings outside the display range or beyond the measuring range are similar to the
         previous instruction(see page 16).

                   '  There ts danger of electric shock if the meter is handled with wet hands, during rain, in
        areas splashed by water or where there is a lot of moisture
        Under such conditions,it is recommended that you use the meter in the cordless flash
        mode, or wireless f lash radio triggerrngmode and keep the Synchro terminal cap in place.

NOTE
                   '  The flash unit may flash when you connect the Synchro cord or operate the Power bunon
                   '  When firing a flash to take measurements,check the camera's synchronizingrange and
          sel the proper shutter speed.
                   '  For flash untts with low electrictrigger voltage,the flash may not fire. In this case, make
        measurements tn cordless flash mode or wireless flash radio triggering mode.

     Wtten measurtng ftash light, the shutter speed and F stop value (combining ambient light and
     flash light. total amount of light) are displayed on the LCD screen and the ambient light and
     flash light are each drsplayedas separate values along with the total amount of light (combined

        With the Radro Transmittermodule plugged into the meters radio socket and a Recerveror
         Transceiver(PocketWizard@)connected to one or more electronicflash units, the meter provides
         a convenient system that enables one person working alone to measure flash output without
         the need of a sync cord. Pressingthe Measuring button simultaneouslytriggersthe llash and
        measures the flash output simultaneously.
        The L-75BDRt758D/75BClNE has 32 triggeringchannels with the FT-32 radio triggeringmodirle
           (built-infor L-75BDR, optionalfor L-7sBDl75BClNE) Channels 1-16 provide single triggering,
       w h i l e c h a n n e l s 1 7 - 3 2 o f f e r S e l e c t i v e Q u a d - T r i g g e r i n gc o n t r o l S e l e c t i n g o n e o f  t h e Q u a d -

            pressing the Mode button'L0'

           z . The set channel number will blink, turn the Jog wheel to select the channel desired.

        3   In the Channel setting mode, "ch" and channel number appear on the upper left side of the
             L C D T h e c h a n n e l n u m b e r s ( 1 t o 1 6 o r 1 7 t o 3 2 ) w i l l a p p e a r i n t h e F - s t o p d i s p l a y a r e a .
          When the channel number is set to 17 - 32, Ouad-Triggeringzones (A, b, c and d) are
