Handling Instructions
1. Load the battery.
* Open the battery cover (15) by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. Fig. 5
* Check the polarities of the battery and align them with those inside the bat-
tery compartment, inserting the battery with the negative (-) polarity end
toward you. Fig. 6
Caution
* lf you do not intend to use the model for a prolonged period of time (about
a month), remove the battery in order to safeguard against battery leakage
and store the model in a dry location.
* A battery powers the model for about 100 hours under normal operation
(cumulative number of hours of use with high-power Size "AA" battery).
Keep a spare battery handy if you use the model often.
2. Battery check
* When the switch button (9) is depressed, the battery check lamp (1) lights
up red for an instapt.(0.3 gec.) and the shutter scale (3) is energized. Fig.7
* When the battery check lamp (1) does not light up, it means that the battery
is flat and that it should be replaced with a fresh unit.
3. Vievvfinder' Fis.8:
The Viewfinder (23) has a fixed view and it measures accurately the average
brightness of the subjectwithin the area seen in the received light angle indicator
ring (241.
4. Computing scales Fis.9
These scales are useful for working out the contrast ratio, making a note of mea-
sured values, and determining the exposure for movie cameras and ordinary ex-
posu res.
* U (under) and O (over)
The sensitivity of film toward light of ordinary films is limited. When the
brightness of subject lies beyond this limit, the corresponding portion of the
subject is not reproduced on film."U"is used to indicate underexposure with
respect to the average brightness and computing scale indicator mark (20)
"4" while "O" is used to indicate overexposure.
* A (absence of contrast) and C (contrast)
These symbols are used in the same way as "U" and "O" with photography
based on monochrome films. "A" is used instead of the computing scale in-
dicator mark (20) "A" with a flat subject having minimal contract such as a
view of scenery while "C" is used with a very well-contrasted subject under
back light conditions, for instance.

Measurement and readout
1. Set the f ilm sensitivity
* Hold the film sensitivity knob (7) with your finger, slide it in the direction
of the arrow and set the corresponding film sensitivity value seen in the ASA
and DIN scale Ql n1) windows to the indicator "L" at the click-stop posi-
tion. Fig. 1O
* The setting in the photo is ASA 100 (DlN 21).

2. Setting the recdivbd li$ht angle
Look through the viewfinder (23) and set the received light angle indicator ring
(24) (received light angle) which matches the part where the subject is to be
measu red. :.
* Hold the received light selector (10) with your finger, slide it in the direction
of the arrow and set to the 10",60,40 or 30 received light angle at the click
stop position. Fig. 11
* The setting in the photo is 10o. Fig. 11
3. Measurement and readout
a. Look through the viewfinder (23) and point the received light angle indicator
ring (24) correctly at the location where the subject is to be measured. Fig. 12
b. When the switch button (9) is depressed, the shutter and light guide scales (3)
l22l slide in accordance with the brightness of the subject. When the switch
button (9) is released, the scales stop sliding. Fig. 13
c. Now read out the combination of the exposure (EV) scale (6), the shutter
speed scale (4) and the f/number scate (5). Fig. ta
Caution
" check that the light guide scale l22l movement has completely stopped and
then release the switch button (9) (OFF).
* Warning that the measurement ranges are exceeded by particularly dark sub-
jects (light guide scale (2213 or below) or particularly bright subjects (light
guide scale l22l 18 or above) is provided by the guide scate (22) which vi-
brates finely.

Exposure (EV) scale (6) and light guide scale (22)
* The exposure (EV) scale (16) is useful for determining the exposure of an
LV type of camera, and it is used as the contrast measurement guide scale.
The definition of EV is as follows:
zEV = n2lt
where EV is the exposure
A is the f /number
T is the shutter speed (sec.)
* The EV scale and the light guide scale (22)are identical only with ASA 100.
Determining the exposure fulfr'* 'u"
1. Determing the exposure with the average brightness of the subiect
The problem with this method is the differences in area taken up by the light
and dark. In other wods, when there is a large light area, the exposure tends to
be insufficient overall. Conversely, when there is a large dark area, it tends to be
excessive.
\ a. Measuring the whole subject
When the view angle of the lens on the camera is identical to the received
light angle indicator ring lZql (received light angl€) on this model, the average
brightness of the subject is measured.
The combination of the f/number scale (5) and the shutter scale (4) yields
the correct exposure. Fig. 15 & 16
oView original page 10Page 11 · Read text
In the photo, the combination of the shutter speed 1/250 sec. . .. . 1/15 sec.
and the f/number 4 .. ..16 gives the correct exposure. Fig. 14

b. When the whole subject cannot be measured
* Set the received light angle of the exposure meter to 10o, measure the inter-
mediate section where there is relatively little brightness or darkness and
determine the exposure. Fig. 17
The readout of the exposure combination is the same as under section a.
2. Using the major portion of the subject as a reference and deter-
mining the exposure
* When takinj photos of people, the face is the most important part. To align
the exposure with the subject's face or bringing out the color of a certain
part of the subject convincingly, select the received light angle indicator (24),
measure the exposure of the subject part and determine the exposure. Fig. 18
3. Measuring the light at yarious parts of the subject and determining
the exposure
To bring out the whole of the subject in good contrast or to bring out the colors
convincingly, set the received.l[gh!.anO$!o spot (3o), measure under this method
and determine the exposure.
a. Measure the dark sections (shadow) of the subject, set the exposure (EV)
scale (6) to the "U" scale. Fig. 19, 20 &21
b. Next, measure the light sections (highlights) of the subject and read out the
figure on the exposure (EV) scale (6) over the shutter scale (3). Fig. 19 & 14
c. Check that the exposure (EV) scale (6) is wittrln the "O" range on the com-
puting scale if you are using a monochrome film and within the "C" range if
you are using a color film. Fig.22
d. When the scales are within the ranges, align the computing scale indicator
(20) with the figure between the highlight and shadow sections. The combi-
nation of the f/number computing scale (16) and the shutter scale yieldsthe
correct exposure of the subject. Fig.23View original page 11Page 12 · Read text

c. Within ranges
d. Interim value: 10
Correct exposure:
Shutter speed: 11125, 118, 1 sec.

lf the brightness of the highlights with the shadows as the reference exceeds
the "O" scale with a monochrome film and the "C" scale with a color film,
sacrifice one and determine the exposure, restrict the amount of light falling
on the highlight sections or use an auxiliary light or a reflector and increase
the brightness.

4. Movie scale readout
The measurement method is exactly same as that for still cameras (general photo-
graphy). However, with movie camera photography, read out the value on the
f/number scale (8, 16,32. . . . ) corresponding to the number of camera frames
and set this f/number on the camera. Fig. 14
* Read out the exposure (EV) value on the shutter scale (3) and align this EV
value with the computing scale indicatior (20). The combination of the
number of movie camera frames and the f/number scale yields the correct
exposure. Fig.22

Der Belichtungswert (EV) ist folgendermaBen definiert:
2EV = g2 11
zeit in Sekunden.

Fig. 5
polarit6 n6gntive (-) vers soi. Fig. 6
Attention
* Si l'on n'a pas l'intention d'utiliser l'appareil pendant une dur6e assez impor-
taille "AA" i haute puissance).
Fig.7
* U (sous) et O (sur)
