Soligor quality lets name-brand camera owners possess lenses of such exacting optical definition that it is extremely difficult, if nol impossible to distinguish between photographs taken through a Soligor and the so-called "original equipment" lenses. NORMAL LENSES The focal length of a "normal" or "standard" lens, for a 35mm camera, is 50mm (this may vary f rom 50-58mm). This is the lens that usually comes with a 35mm camera. lt is an ideal all-around lens, and generally features a relatively wide aperture (f /stop) for use in available light photography, often allowing a photographer to work in low-light situations with- out using f lash or flood lights.View original page 5

SOLIGOR WIDE ANGLE LENSES A wide angle lens is just that-a lens that offers a wide angle of field to the photographer. A normal lens offers 48-52" of field, while Sollgor wide angle lenses range from 63' to 102" Some photographers refer to wide angle lenses as "wall stretchers" because they are very useful in restricted areas, often providing the only means of including necessary subject in such areas. For this reason, they are a standard in architectural photogra- phy. Their great depth of fietd also makes them excellent lenses for "grab shots", in particular the 35mm lens, which some photographers consider theirView original page 7

"normal" lens.
There are six Soligor superior wide angle lenses.
Most extreme is the ultra-wide 1 7mm, with 102 of
coverage. Other wide angle lenses are the 21 ,24,25
and 28mm, in addition to two 35mm lenses. All are
easy to f ocus and light weight. .' .View original page 8Page 9 · Read text
SOLIGOR PORTRAIT LENSES Although most any lens can be used for portraiture work, most professionals (and accomplished amateurs) prefer to shoot with moderate telephotos, ranging f rom 1 00 to 1 35mm. These allow a photo- grapher to easily fillthe 35mm framewith the subject's head and shoulders without crowding his subject. There are fifteen Soligor lenses for fine portrait .l00mmwork. A compact t /2.8lens, a light-weight.l05mm t /2.8lens, and nine 135mm lenses, ranging from f /1 .8 to t /3.5, and Zoom lenses for even greater versatility. All are easily hand held for spontaneous work, and are also well suited f or other telephoto work, such as sports and nalure photography.View original page 9

www.butkus.us SOLIGOR TELEPHOTO LENSES A telephoto lens is really a telescope for your camera, allowing you to bring a subject closer to your camera without your moving an inch. A 200mm telephoto for example, brings a subject four times closer, while an 800mm lens brings it 16 times closer The longer a telephoto, the narrower the angle ofView original page 10

view available, which is the opposite of what happens
with a wide angle lens.
Soligor produces more than 20 excellent telephoto
lenses, in addition to the moderale telephotos
discussed in the portrait lenses chapter.
The 180, 200 and 250mm Soligor telephotos were
designed to be compact, light and fast enough to be
hand-held in most instances, providing photographers
maximum flexibility of use.
Longer telephotos require using a sturdy tripod so
the image doesn't blur, and these Soligor lenses,
ranging from 300 to 800mm feature a built-in rotating,
locking tripod mount, positioned for true center
balance when the lens is on a camera. For even
greater flexibility, either the camera or the lens
1o can be mounted on a tripod.View original page 11Page 12 · Read text

SOLIGOR ZOOM LENSES
Some photographers refer to zoom lenses as
"cheaters" because one lens can do the work of many.
Zoom lenses represent a high dbgree of optical
sophistication and complexity. fhey are the ultimate in
convenience and often, efficiency (for example, when
a 67mm lens is called for). In a sense, a zoom lens

allows a photographer to create a lens with the focal
length he wants.
Zoom lenses can often save a photographic expedi-
tion where carrying a variety of lenses is almost
impossible. The Solrgor 75-260 zoom, for instance,
ranges f rom near normal to more than frve times
normal magnification, which means it can handle
anythrng f rom portraiture to (long distance) wildlife
photography. Equally important, zooms let you grab
elusive shots that would have been lost had you
stopped to change lenses. They also add greatly to
any photographer's potential creativity. For example,
a lens can be zoomed during exposure time or
multiple exposures for astou ndingly unusual
effects.

80-200mm, 180-41Omm and four others. Each zoom
lens is an example of Soligor quality and ingenuity.
THREE SOLIGOR LENS SYSTEMS
Soligor offers three lens and lens mount systems:
the F.A. (Fixed-Mount Automatic), the T4 (Uni-
versal Automatrc), and the T2 (Preset) lens systems.
The Soligor Fixed-Mount Automatic system
lenses are engineered to exactly match the speci-
fications of each manufacturer, including Miranda,
Pentax, Praktica, Yashica, Konica, Ricoh, Mamiya,
Olympus, Fujica, Argus, Nikon, Nikkormat, Canon,
Mrnolta, and other popular cameras. This means
that each lens retarns the automatic diaphragm
operation of the camera. Simply select the lens sizeView original page 14Page 16 · Read text

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR T4 LENSES
Preparing the Lens:
Press the adapter release (1) and rotate the lock
ring (2) to the "O" (open) position. Remove the rear
plastic cap by lifting it off . The lens is now ready to be
coupled to the adapter.
Attaching the Adapter to the Lens:
A. Set the lens aperture ring to the proper position,
using the orange triangle (3) for Miranda, Pentax,
Nikon, Canon, Petri FT, and Exakta mounts, and the
green triangle (4)lor the Minolta and Topcon.
B. Adjust meter coupling pin (for Miranda, Nikon,
Minolta and Topcon. adapters only), so that the
coupling pin on the adapter is opposite the

"set pin here" indicator, and the pin "clicks" into position. C. Make sure the lens lock ring is in the "O" position. Match the silver arrows on the lens and adapter so that one is directly over the other. Gently lower the adapter ring onto the lens. A slight movement of the adapter may be necessary to insure proder fit. D. Hold the adapter ring in position. Rotate the lens ring firmly towards the "L" (lock) position until it locks I into place. Mounting lhe Lens on the Camera: All Soligor lenses are made to the'same critical standards as the "originalequipment" lenses of your camera. in relation to your aperture index and focusing scale.
lf you are focused at 30 feet, at f / 1 6, as illustrated,
the area bracketed between the two sixteen's related
to the footage scale, tells you at what distances your
photograph will remain in relative sharpness, in this
case, from 25-40 feet.
The moveable scales are the aperture and focusing I
scales, and markings on the focusing scale are in feet
and meters, for added convenience. Soligor lenses
also have an infrared marking, a red dot or line near
the regular index mark on the depth of field scale. With
infrared film, the sharpest image is obtained at a
position slightly farther away from the point at which
you have focused by eye. Once focused, correct for
infrared film by shifting the "in focus" setting from
18 regular index mark to the infrared index mark. IView original page 19Page 20 · Read text
www.butkus.us MARKINGS ON YOUR SOLIGOR LENSES Every Soligor lens has a number of markings and numbers on the lens barrel. Starting with the f ront end, you will find numbers that indicate the focal length and the maximum aperture of the lens. For example, 1 35mm is the focal length and t /3.5 is the maximum aperture of the diaphragm (opening). Next is the serial number, which if recorded, makes recovery of lost or stolen lenses easier. The final number indicates the f ilter size or screw-in size for accessories which fit the threaded front.mount. At the camera end of your lens are three scales. The fixed scale in the center is for depth of field (that area in front and back of your focal subject) is indicated by that bracketed area,View original page 20

1. Reverser Rings: Your normal lens can double as a
close-up lens when you use a reverser ring. lt lets you
attach the front end of the lens to the camera body
2. Extension Tubes: Soligor offers three tubes in ,
varyrng lengths (8, 1 6 and 32mm) to convert existing
lenses into close-uo lenses. Auto extension tubes
retain the automatic diaphragm f unction.
3. Bellows Devices: These f unction like a zoom lens,
as they permit great flexibility, and an infinite number
of distances and magnifications can be obtained.
These, too, fit between the lens and camera body,
and are available in both preset and automatic
versions. There are also slide-copying, macro stand
and critical focusing accessories to create an exten-
srve close-up system.

www.butkus.us SOLIGOR TELECO NVERTERS Soligor offers an economical way to get telephoto effects without buying additional lenses. You can double or triple the focal length and effectiveness of your existing lenses with Soligor teleconverters, devices that literally convert a normal 50mm lens .100into a or 15Omm telephoto lens, a'135mm into a 27Omm or 405mm telephoto lens, and on. Soligor offers a wide variety of teleconverter mounts for most popular cameras, in addition to aulomatic teleconverters which retain the automatic function of both the light meter and the automatic diaphragm. SOLIGOR FISHEYE CONVERSION LENS The Soligor Fisheye Conversion Lens is a super_ wide angle 180" lens attachment which fits almost any camera. A mounting ring is provided for attaching the fisheye converter to your lens. The fisheye multi_ plies the focal length of any lens it is attached to bv a factor of 0.1 5, thereby turning a normal 50mm lens into a 7t/zmm lens, and a 'l35mm lens into a 20mm equivalent. SOLTGOR FILTERS AND LENS HOODS
Filters can literally perform miracles, especially in
color photography. Filters can add or delete a particu-
lar color from your photographs, compensating for
certain inexactnesses of color films to let your shots
show the same colols you saw. Soligor filters are made
of glass of the same exacting optical quality as Soligor
lenses. For each lens size, Soligor offers a full range of
filters.
All Soligor lenses have a screw thread on the front
mount to accommodate filters, as well as other lensView original page 28From the M. Butkus archive. Original publisher and archive notices are retained.
