Your new flash meter is a most accurate instrumint, using state-of-the-art
technology to measure the momentary flash burst(s)'of onE or several electronic flash units (strobes). lt is particularly useful in bounce and
multiple strobe setups where exposure cannot be easiiy determined on theH basls of calculations. A single flash readlng also piovides exposure infor- matlon for multiple flashes right on the exposure scale.
*The flash meter uses a high efficiency silicon photo diode (spo) or
great accuracy and with high sensitivity characteristics. using a
hlghly sophisticated lc with an automatic measuring system it glves guick and reliable readings of incident flash illuiination.
*A red ;LED provides an easy-reading bar graph (dot mode) display of the ; f/stop number to be used when measuring flash(es). The pea-k-hold
display' indicating the reading obtained, stays lit until the meter is re-set.
:tThanks to its white hemispheric integrator design, the receptor dome
provides wide angle coverage for incident light readings. Reflected readings (off an 18? grey card) may also be made by fiist sliding
the hemispheric diffuser away from the receptor. ,rPower source: One (l) 9 volt battery. Battery checking can be done with the LED pilot lamp (4). lf the LED lights when the switch
is in the 0N position, the battery is in 9o6d condition. The pilot lamp is also the battery condition indicator; if it fails to light with the switch (2) t0Nt, replace the battery.View original page 4Page 5 · Read text
*The pllot lamp will blink when the f/stop indication is in over-range
(over exposure) untll reset.
c ru--,l. Open the cover of the battery compartment (at the bottom of the case)
and insert the battery. lilake sure the battery is loaded correctly accord-
ing to the polarity (+) (-) indication.
2. Set the film speed by rotating the ASA/DlN dial in the window (7). The
appropriate film speed is indicated on film box.
3. Hold the flash meter close.to the principal spot or area.of the subject
you wish to measure, pointing the light receptor dome (l) in the direction II of the camera I
4. Slide the switch on the side of meter to the 0N position. The pilot I
lamp (4) will light.
5. Now trigger the flash or flashes. The meter will, upon detection of the
ffash, directly and without any calculations, indicate the nearest half f/
stop on the exposure scale.
5. The minimum aperture indication at ASA 100 is f/32. lf the incident
fight value is in excess of t/32, the pilot lamp (4) will flicker. In
such a case, reposition the flashgunwww.butkus.usor flashguns in order to decrease
the amount of light which falls on the subject.View original page 5Page 6 · Read text
7. Before taking another reading, re-set the meter by pressing the RESET
but ton .
8. lf you wish to trigger the flash frpm the meter position, connect the
accessory sync cord between the flash meter and the flash unit. In this
case, the flash will fire as the 0N,/0FF switch is activated, with the meter
providing an automatic reading of the flash intensity.
9. The Strobe Meter uses an electronic buffer circuit to minimize cord re-
sistance effect.s and to assure reliable and precise operation of the
strobes triggered by means of the cord.
l0.The effect of repeated flashes may be extrapolated from a single flash reading. Turn the outdr dial so that the I'lil indicator is positioned
over the lit LED. Read the required number of flashes opposite the
desired f stop (to the left of the indicated exposure).

CARE AND STORAGE Your Flash Meter is precision-engineered to provide years of accurate and reliable service. While the all-plastic body requires no special care, the meter should be treated like any other fine optical and electronic instrument. Avoid storing the meter in places subject to extremes in temperature or humidity; avoid dropping or bumping it. lf you expect not to use the meter for an extended period of time, remove the batteryView original page 8
