 OPERATIONAL SETTINGS, INDICATORS
Both MS series lvlonolights are easy to operate and their control panels (located on the rear of the
housing) are clearly defined for all switch and socket functions. With the exception of rne power
selector switch (Full/Half on MS'2000; Full/Half/Ouarter on MS-4000) all functions and switch
  locations are identical.
  1. Both the main power switch and modeling lamp switch should be in the "off" position before
any connection or installation is made.
 2. After installing and setting all component items in accordance with the directions prevrousty
     outlined, power can be applied.
  3. A few seconds after turnrng on the main power switch, the neon lamp designated ,'Ready,, will
glow. This conf irms that the unit is now operational.
 4. Pressing the modeling lamp switch to the "on" position will automatically set the lamp bright-
ness directly proportional to the power setting selected.
To test the unit at this time, simply press the "Ready" button. This action will f ire the flash
and the "Ready" lamp will temporarily go out. When the ,,Ready,, lamp glows the unit is again
ready. (Please refer to the specification section for individual recycling times.)
5' Your MS series Monolight is equipped with a built-in slave. Should you wish to use two or more
monolights for multiple flash lighting, simply designate one monolight as the,,master,, and
connect this unit to your camera via the sync cord. On all other monolights, set the slave func-
tion switch to the "on" position. when the master unit is fired, either by your camera or the
"Ready" button, all the MS series Monolights will fire simultaneously.
 6. An optional accessory is the Infrared Remote Control Module (please refer to the accessories
section). With this accessory module connected directly to Vour camera, all IVS series Mono-
lights can be set to the slave "on" position and no sync cord connection is required between
    any monolight and the camera.
 7. Should you operate your MS series lvlonolight at the maximum output for longer than the re-
commended time, the unit will automatically turn off and the neon lamp designated will glow.
This indicates that the thermal protection circuit has been engaged. After a suitable period of
time (please refar to specifications section) this lamp will extinguish and the ,,Ready,, lamp will
glow confirming that the unit is once again ready to use.
 8. As an additional safety factor, the MS series Monolights are fused for both the flash and model-
ing lamp circuitry. These fuses are rated at 7 amps. and J amps. respectively, and are user
     ch angea bl e.
 9. The sync connection outlet is of a standard twin blade configuration. Should you lose or dam-
age the sync cord provided, this is a standard replaceable item available through your rocal
authorized Sunpak dealer (please refer to accessory section).
 Note:
 Use specified fuse for replacement.

CONNECTING RECHARGEABLE BATTERY
PACK
After properly charging the Rechargeable battery pack
it can be used with any MS series lvlonolight.
Before connecting the Rechargeable battery pack, in-
sure that both the main power switch and modeling
lamD switch are in the "Off" position.
To maximize battery life, the modeling lamp will not
operate when using the Rechargeable battery pack.
Should you neglect to turn off the modeling lamp
switch this will not harm the unit, as a special circuit
will automatically disengage the modeling lamp to pre-
vent unnecessarv batterv drain.
Connect one end of the cable supolied to the Re-
chargeable pack. Insure that all pins are properly align-
ed and insert the other end into the batterv power
terminal located on the lower left side of the MS
series lVlonolights.
The main oower switch mav now be turned on. After a
few moments the "Ready" lamp will glow, confirmi-

CARE OF YOUR MS SERIES MONOLIGHT SYSTEM
Although your MS series Monolight is a ruggedly built electronic assembly, it should be handled
with the same care given any piece of quality equipment. To be assured of maximum dependable
service, please follow these basic recommendations:
1. Avoid bending the AC or sync cords sharply. Too sharp a bend can break the wiring in these
   coros.
2. lf the AC or sync cords become damaged, have them replaced immediately.
3. Keep all connectors free of dust, moisture and corrosion.
4. DO NOT attempt to open or make repairs to your MS series Monolight if you are not familiar
with electronic equipment. Your dealer should be consulted regarding authorized Sunpak ser-
   vice in your area.
5. DO NOT install the flashtube or modeling lamp while your MS series Monolight is turned on or
   plugged in.
6. When not actually using your MS series Monolight, it is advisable to turn it off and disconnect
   from any power source.

                                                                                               21
