www.butkus.us English Congratulations on selecting the TOKINA AT-x 60-120 mm f12.8 zoom lens. Through TOKINA's superior lens design technology we have been able to produce a lens that is not only compact and light weight, but also ensures superb resolution, contrast, and color balance. This is an epoch-making zoom lens with a @-120 mm focusing distance which is most suitable for portrait photography. The bright- ness of f12.8 is indicated by the orange line on the end of zooming ring. The focusing ring rotates in the same direction as that of camera manufactures own lenses, which is for ease of operation and to ensure compatibility with new AF (Auto-Focus) camera bodies. Before you start shooting, please read this instruction manual carefully to obtain optimum performance. We hope you will enjoy many pleasant hours of photography with this lens.View original page 5

AT-X Series AT-X is a group of lenses of a new age produced with the latest design technology and latest process- ing technique. By devising our company's unique lens composing system, which has never existed before, this series features superior specifications, light weight, com- pactness and high performance. The operability is of course fully improved from the standpoint of human engineering. AT-X (Advanced Technology) is the name given to this group of lenses featuring excel I ent perf ormance and outstand i ng tech nology. Description of Parts 1. 112.8Indicating Orange Line 2. www.butkus.us Focusing and Zooming This zoom lens has a one-touch system, so that you can both focus and zoom with one ring. First, obtain the desired composition by pulling or pushing the zoom/focus ring. Then, proceed with focusing. Another zooming method is to bring the lens to the maximum focal length (12C1 mm) and then focus. The lens can then be zoomed to any focal length and the subject will remain in the focus, because this lens is a true zoom or parfocal design. Because of the h igher magn if ication ratio at the 1 20 mm f ocal length, the subject appears larger in the viewfinder and is easier to focus on. Do not focus in the shorter focal range first and then zoom to the longer focal range. Since this lens is as bright as the f12.8, there is absolutely no darkness in the split image and micro prism image, thus making it \,ery easy to check f ocusing. The focusing ring rotates in the same direction as * that of camera manufactures own lenses, which is for ease of operation and to ensure compatibility with new AF (Auto-Focus) camera bodies.View original page 7

Aperture
This zoom lens can be used with SLR cameras with
AE (Automatic-Exposure) mechanisms, such as TTL
photometering, shutter-speed priority, aperture
priority, programmed or multimode systems.
Since this aperture system is also completely inter-
locked with the automatic aperture system of the
camera, the focus and composition can always be
desided in the open condition. When for example
the aperture is set to f 18, the aperture is still kept
open. This iris is set to f/8 only while the shutter is
pressured for exposure and the aperture opens again
as soon as the exposure is completed.
Infra-red Photography
The infra-red image of the subject comes to a focus
slightly beyond the f ilm plane, and focusing with the
human eye is not possible. The AT-X 60-120 has an
infra-red focusing line engraved on the lens barrel
which allows for accurate focusing when using inf ra-
red film and a red filter. The following steps allow
proper focusing when using inf ra-red f ilm.
1. Remove red f ilter and focus on the subject. For
example, the focusing distance is - m as in Photo 1 . (Page 58)
2. Next, move the focusing ring until the distance
- m coincides with the infra-red mark, as in
Photo 2.
3. F inally, attach the red f ilter and shoor.View original page 8Page 9 · Read text
www.butkus.us Depth of Field The term "depth of field" refers to the range of distance in which subjects appear acceptably in f ocus. The depth of field changes as the lens aperture is adjusted. Please refer to the depth of f ield table f rom page 57 to 58 for the depth of f ield at the particular aperture settings and focal lengths. Take for example, a lens with a focal length 80 mm, with the aperture set at f/5.6 with a focusing distance of 3 m, the depth of f ield extends f rom2.781 m to 3.256 m.View original page 9

Filters We recommend using the 55 mm screw-in type f ilter with this zoom lens. lf two or more filters are used together, vignetting may occur, so it is recommended to use only one filter at a time. Also, as PL (Polariz- ing) filters vary in thickness, some PL filters may cause vignetting at wider focal lengths and shorter f ocusing distance. Lens Hood A lens hood prevents flare and ghosting in photo- graphs which are cause by strong diagonal or side rayas of light directly hitting the lens. lt is recom- mended that one be used on your 60-120 mm lens, to insure clear, sharp photographs. Tokina manufactures a special clipon lens hood made specifically for the AT-X 60-120 mm zoom lens (sold separately). Most other lens hoods available will either cause some vignetting or will not reduce lens flare as much as the Tokina lens hood.View original page 10

Lens Care
A lens cannot be expected to perform satisfactorily
without good preventive maintenance. Therefore we
urge you to take good care of your lens and it will
reward you with long and efficient service.
1) A lens consists of precision components that
need careful handling. Touching the glass leaves
finger marks on the lens surface. Furthermore,
trying to remove these marks by rubbing with a
dry dusty cloth may put permanent scratches on
the lens. To remove f inger marks use a mixture of
denatured alcohol and ether and lens tissue,
wiping in a circular motion from the center to
the outside of the f ront element.
2l lf the lens has been exposed to moisture, wipe
carefully with a dry cloth. After use on the beach
or near salt water, make sure all traces of salt are
removed.
3) lt is especially important to avoid exposing the
lens to a rapid change of temperature. for example,
going from the ski slope to a heated hotel room
or vice versa. This can cause droplets of moisture
to condense on the inside of the lens which can
cause rust and mold. lt is recommended that the
lens be kept in a lens bag to increase the time
period of temperature adjustment.View original page 11Page 12 · Read text
4l Extreme care should be exercised to avoid drop-
ping the lens in waster. The same applies to drop-
ping the lens on a hard surface. The cost of
repairing a lens damaged in this way is very high,
and in some cases, impossible.
s) After lens servicing has been completed, attach
both the front and rear lens caps and keep in a
dry place away from high humidity and high
temperature. lf the lens is going to be stored for
a long period of time, place it in an air-tight
container and include a package of silica gel.View original page 12Page 14 · Read text

I rennweitenverstel lung ax ia I verschieben.

Jahren treuer Dienste lohnen.
1) Vermeiden Sie jede Beriihrung der Glasfl6chen.
Entfernen Sie Staub regelmd8ig mit einem Blase-
pinsel. Hartndckige Verunreinigungen konnen mit
einem absolut sauberen, trockenen Leinenlappen
entfernt werden. Entfernen Sie zundchst lose
Staubteilchen. Hauchen Sie die Fldche dann an
und wischen Sie sie vorsichtig in kreisformigen
Bewegungen von innen nach auBen ab. Nur im
Notfall sollte Optik-Reinigungsfliissigkeit ver-

I objectif zoom
