Setting up the camera
To open-thecamera,releasethe focuslockthenturn the
focusingknobsup to releasethe focusrailfrom the latchon the
camerabody.
Openthe rail bed.The bed stopsautomatically,lockinginto
placeto form a 90 degreeangle.

Folding the camera
Although-thereare limitationsto the size of the lenses
that can be foldedintothe Toyo-Field45CF.
It can accommodatethe mostpopularfocallengths.
Lenslimitationguide.
> Frontlensmount: up to 62mmin diameter
> The lengthbetweenthe lensboardsurfaceand the front
end of the lens: up to 40mm.
> lf the lens is larger,pleaseremoveit beforefoldingthe
camera.
Unlockthe focusinglocklever.The focusinglockleverlocks
the frontstandardwhenyou lift up the lock lever,and
unlockswhenyou pushit down.
Put all movementsin theirneutraldefaultposition.
Turnthe focusingknobsand movethe railcloserto the
camerabody.
Unlockthe frontstandardlock lever(centerposition)and
pushthe frontstandardintothe camerabodyontothe short
railsat the backof the camerabody.
Lockthe frontstandardin placeby turningthe frontstandard
lock leverto eitherthe leftor right.
Turnthe focusingknobsand movethe railsawayfrom the
backrailsto createa gap overthe hinge.
The foldingpositionof the railsis whenthe frontend of the
railsmeetTlushwiththe frontend of the railguide.
Pushthe left and rightbed bracedownto releasethem from Rail flush with
the lockingpositionand closethe railbed. front end of bed
Rail latch Turnthe focusingknobsdownand movethe rails
up to engagewith the latchof the camerabody.
IMPORTANT:
All movementsmust be at the neutral(default)position!
The frontstandardlock levershouldbe at eitherleft or right
position!(Thecameracannotbe foldedwith the leverin the
centerposition.)
Oncethe camerais closed,lockthe focuslockto preventthe Focus knob camerafrom openingaccidentally.

Lensboard
Mounting the lensboard
Facingthe frontof the camera,pushthe slidelockat the top
of the frontstandardto the right.
Insertthe bottompartof the lensboardfirst.(A silverline
acrossone side of the lensboardindicatesthe topsideof
the lensboard.)
Seatthe lensboardflush,intothe frontstandard.
Pushthe slidelockat the top of the frontstandardleftto
lockthe lensboardin placeto secureit.
IMPORTANT:Always hold the lensboard
until it is securedwith the slide lock!
Removingthe lensboard
Whileholdingthe lensboard,pushthe slidelockat the top
of the frontstandardto the right.Removethe lensboard. Lensboard IMPORTANT:Pleasehold the lensboardbefore
unlockingthe slide lock.
Infinitystops
The infinitystops(locatedat the frontof the rails)shouldbe
fixedat the positionwherethe lens beingusedis focused
at infinity.
An L-shapedallenwrenchis suppliedwith the camerabody
for unlockingand re-settingthe infinitystops.
The jaws of the infinitystopscan be foldedwhen not in use,
howeverbe carefulwhen pullingout the frontstandardso
as not to downderailit from the camera.
i To determinethe infinityposition,mountthe lensand focus
i on a distantsubject.Do not use the focusingknobfor this
ii procedure.Slidethe frontstandardbackand forth,then lock
; in placewith the frontstandardlockinglever.
Pleasebe carefulto keepthe lensand film surfaceparallel
whendetermininginfinity.

Referencescale
Flange back scale
The flangebackscaleis at the leftside of the cameraand
markedat 5mm increments.
The flangeback is measuredfromwherethe frontend of the
frontstandardbasestopson the scale.

The free scaleis at the rightside of the camera.
The scalecan be penciledin and erased.
It can be usedfor focus or bellowsfactorreference.
Handstrap
The handstraploopsare on bothsidesof the camerabody
for leftor righthandling.
Gameraback
The camerabackcan be removedfrom the camerabodyand
placedin eitherverticalor horizontalposition.
To removethe cameraback,pullthe two lockingleversout.
The two locksare locatedon top of the camera. ->
To mountthe cameraback,reversethe procedure.

Groundglass Ground glass frame The groundglassframecan be removedby pushingin the
two releasearms locatedon the frame'sleftand rightside
and slidingthem fonruard.
Slidethe two releasearmstowardsthe film insertopeningof
the film back.When the groundglassframeis removed,
variousfilm holderswith Grafloktype lockingcan be used.
(Note:Pleasebe carefulwhen removingthe groundglass
frame. Do not let the framefall as the shockmay damage.
Release arms not onlythe groundglass,but the frameitself.)
To securefilm holderswith the groundglassframeremoved,
use the two slidelocks(Graflok)on the cameraback.
To attachthe groundglassframe,slidein the frameslightly
from the film insertingside.Pleasenotethat the two slide
lockson the camerabackshouldbe in the unlockedposition
whenattachingthe groundglassframe.

Lens selection
The Toyo-Field45CF is designedto be used with varioustypes of existinglenses,althoughit is limited
in the use with flange focal distance.At standardcomposition(movementsin neutralposition),
Toyo-Field45CF accommodateslensesfrom 90mm wide-angleup to 300mm long lenses.To use an
extremewide-anglelens, which has a focal lengthshorterthan 75mm, it is necessaryto attach a
recessedlensboardand drop the camerafocusingbed down from its normal position.This eliminates
the possibilityof the focus bed from blockingthe lens and causingan obstructionin the image.The fron
lens board can be adjustedto keep both the rear and front standardsparallel.The followingchart is the
measureddimensionsat the exact distancefrom the front of the lensboardto the film plane.Variations
such as an accessorylensboardcombinationcan changethe setup. Recalculatefiguresfor total
distanceby simply adding all the relativefiguresof the lensboard,if necessary- adapterboards,
camera back and the distancebetweenfront and rear mountingsurfaces
Applicablelenses
Front The cameraflangeback is 80mm^,360mm.That meansthe
cameracan be focusedat infinitywhen the lensflangeback
is withinthis figure.
Rear element However,when usinga 75mm lens,the imagewill be cut off
by the rail bed in the verticalposition.With lensesof 90mm
therewill be no cut-offif the camerasettingsare at neutral
position.

Holdingthe camerawithyour righthand,withthe
frontof the camerafacingyou (thisis the side of the
camerawiththe roundlenswindow)turnthe focus-
lockinglever(locatedunderthe leftfocusingknob)
counter-clockwise,so that the leverfacesdown.
Use boththumbsto rotatefocusingknobsupward.
Thiswill permitthe camerabed to be openuntilit
