HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY PACK (optional equipment) The high voltage (510V) battery pack offers advan- tage of high speed recycling time and silent opera- tion. When the battery pack is plugged into the amphenol outlet the flash unit will remain in operation until power cable is unplugged. Cover outlet with metal screw cap when not in use. Caution: Do not insert finger in amphenol outlet on flash unit or amphenol plug on battery pack. This compact battery pack may be carried by the shoulder sling, on the belt or slipped into the pocket.View original page 6

n..')?. \ t METHODS OF MOUNTING\ \.,
The straight bracket is used in conjunction with the METEOR SP-GH on all
cameras without an accessory shoe.
By inserting the METEOR SP-GH into the encircling bracket (tighten by turning
slotted-screw clockwise), it can be used with the "E" type bracket or with the
"E" clip on press-type cameras. Universal quick release bracket with built-in
sync cord offers instant sync interlock and fast
off camera use. Quick release clamp set permits
attaching flash unit to all graflite type camera
brackets with instant release feature.
. For transporting the METEOR SP-GH in a
( mounted position, slip the camera neck strap
through the snap hook on top of the unit.View original page 8Page 10 · Read text

INCREASING THE NUMBER OF FLASHES
Should the number of flashes per battery charge not
be enough for an occasional long series of shots, it il J6t}$in is possible to exchange the exhausted battery for one
which is fully charged. To effect the exchange, the
stop calculator - which constitutes the cover of the
battery recess - is turned counter clockwise, using a
Digitally signed by Mike Butkus slight inward pressure. The battery can then be DN: cn=Mike Butkus, o, ou=Butkus.
email=mike@butkus.org,Mike Butkus org, c=US removed. Date: 2024.11.26 08:01:15 -05'00'
When inserting the charged battery, it should be
ensured than the positive terminal is on top. Position
the stop calculator on the battery in such a way that
its red dots co-incide with those of the casing. Now
turn the stop calculator clockwise with a slight inward
pressure, and the METEOR SP-GH is ready for action
again.

RECHARGING AND A.C OPERATION
tl!i Theonly.METEORTo re-chargeSP-GHtheis designedbattery, connectfor connectionthe chargingto A-C
plug to the unit, setting the charger to the correct
voltage with the aid of a pointed object, if necessary.
DANGER! The METEOR SP-GH may not be used on
D-C current! Use only standard Ultrablitz A-C charging
plug as listed on page 19.
Charging is started simply by inserting the charging
plug into an A-C wall socket. The red signal lamp
lights up to indicate that charging is proceeding. At
the same time, you can flash as often as you like
without discharging the battery.
Gharging is stopped by disconnection the charging
plug from the A-C socket.View original page 11Page 12 · Read text

The built-in battery needs no maintenance of any kind, but must, of course, be
re-charged when run down.
The condition of the battery is indicated by the recovery time, that is to say {
the time which elapses between the emitting of a flash and the lighting up of the
signal lamp again, when using the unit on battery power. This amounts to
8 secs when fully charged, No. of flashes left: 110
10 secs when % discharged, No. of flashes left: about 50
30 secs when fully discharged, No. of flashes left: 0
The recovery time should not be allowed to exceed 30 seconds without the
. battery being re-charged. The charging period then amounts to about 14 hours.
When only 50 flashes have been made, a charging period of about 7 hours is "si adequate. The battery is not damaged, however, if it is left uncharged for long- er periods of time. The battery has an exceptionally long life of about 400 to h\rs\b
500 recharges. lf by mistake the mechanism is left turned on for a long period 8$
of time, the battery will discharge and the unit will no longer operate. Norrnally, this will not spoil the battery, but up to 60 hrs. may be required for a new full {$s \\e charge. lt will then be back to full capacity after 2 to 3 additional normal dis- qq10 charge cycles with a 14 hrs. recharge for each.View original page 12Page 13 · Read text
POWER ECONOMIZER

The METEOR SP-GH can be set to either half or full
power by means of the power economizer switch.

stop settings indicated by the calculator must also
be reduced by 1/0, as the latter is based only on full
power conditions. lg"l The advantages of using half power are shorter re-
covery time (5-6 secs) and increased number of
f lashes per battery charge (160 f lashes). 11View original page 13Page 14 · Read text

STOP COMPUTOR AND GUIDE NUMBER
'@
Stop Computor
!i'J''.I*E Whenever daylight or constant sources of artifical
light are available, correct exposure is regulated by
means of shutter speed and stop. However, if the very
short electronic flash is used, correct exposure can
only be regulated by the diaphragm stop.
li is easy to ascertain the required stop setting after
removing the stop computor and adjusting the internal
knurled disk to the sensitivity of the film used (e. g.
125 ASA). The stop setting (e.g.B) can be read off
opposite the range figure (20ft). This method of inter-
nal adjustment precludes the setting of the film sensi-
tivity being accidentally disturbed.

GUIDE NUMBER
F{.q h\ #s lf the sensitivity of your film or the distance cannot be encompassed by the \i,, computor, proper stop value can be calculated from the guide number (see ss
a& page 16) or as follows:
-ft
E@ ouide number (for example: for ASA 400 film 280 5.6)
q'ffi distance 50
Distance is measured in ft. between lamp and subject.
The guide number is, of course, only an approximation. lt is governed by the
light output of the METEOR SP-GH and by the film sensitivity, however, it also
depends on the brightness of subject, size and brightness of room and method
of developing. Guide numbers indicated are averages calculated for normal
size rooms with light walls and can be used for distances down to about 3 ft.
For shorter distances it is advisable to f ind the correct aperture by trial and error.
lf you are taking pictures outsides, in large halls, or of bright, reflecting ob-
jects at long distances, be sure to open diaphragm 1 or 2 stops more than
required by mathematical calculation or stop computor. 13View original page 15Page 16 · Read text
www.butkus.us
Using the guide number graph at the right, guide numbers for every type of film
can be ascertained in the following manner: Find the sensitivity of your film on
the left hand scale, follow it horizontally until it intersects the diagonal line. The
proper guide number is then located on the horizontal scale directly below the
point of intersection. Example: ASA 64, guide number = 112.

FILM AND DEVELOPING eks $s
The METEOR SP-GH light corresponds to daylight of 56000 K.Therefore, use only
daylight film for color pictures. For black and white pictures we recommend It panchromatic film with normal developing. An especially high quality of brilliant, \.I.|s finely graduated negatives can be obtained by using a modern rapid developer.14 Values indicated refer to normal developing time' $r{View original page 16Page 19 · Read text
REFORMING THE STORAGE CAPACITOR
A When the flash has not been used for several weeks, it is best to plug it in anh%
qr@ efectric socket tor 20 to 30 minutes. This will reform the electrolyte capacitor

AUTOMATIC TRANSISTORIZED MONITORING CIRCUIT
The transistor-relay-circuit of the METEOR SP-GH saves the battery and auto-
matically keeps light output constant. When taking pictures it is not necessary to
turn off the unit to save battery. Just as soon as the METEOR SP-GH has been
turned on, the automatic control takes over the job of regulating flash capacitor
voltage thus securing an ever constant light output. At the same time, this auto-
matic mechanism cuts off battery current just as soon as full flash power has
been reached, increasing the actual number of flashes available. This auto-
matic control has the great advantage of making it possible to keep the
METEOR SP-GH in constant operation. This means that it is always ready to work
and you won't have to miss that once-in-a-lifetime-shot. 17View original page 19Page 21 · Read text
