The stroight brocket is used in coniunction with the METEOR SP on oll comeros
           without on occessory shoe.
By inserting the METEOR SP into the encircling brocket (tighten by turning slotted-
screw clockwise), it con be used with the "E" type brocket or with the "E" clip
on press-type comeros. The "E" clomp con be removed from the encircling clomp
ond reploced with o quick releose unit. The
circling brocket becomes o bounce-l,ight brocket
by removing the "E" clomp ond using thel/+20

INCREASING THE NUMBER OF FTASHES

should the numben of f loshes per bottery chorge not
be enough for on occosionol long series of shots, it
is possible to exchonge the exhqusted bottery for one
which is fully chorged. To effect the exchohg€, the
stop colculotor - which constifutes the cover of the
botfery recess - is turned counter clockwise, using o
slight inword pressure. The bottery cqn then be
removed.

when inserting the chorged bottery, it should be
ensured thot the positive terminol is on top. position
the stop colculofor on the bottery in such o woy thot
its red dofs co-incide with those of the cosing. Now
furn the stop colculotor clockwise with o slight inword
pressure, ond the METEOR SP is reody for oction

RECHARGING AND A.C OPERATION

The METEOR SP is designed for connection to A-C
only. To re-chorge the bottery, connect the chorging
plug to the unit, setting the chorger to the correct
voltoge with the oid of q coin, if necessory.

DANGER! The METEOR SP mqy nol be used on D'C
currenl! Use only stondord Ultroblitz A-C chorging
plug os listed on poge 16.

Chorging is stqrted simply by inserting the chorging
plug into on A-C wqll socket. The red signol lomp
lights up to indicote thot chorging is proceeding. At
the so me time, you cq n f losh os often os you like
without dischorging the bottery.
Chorging is stopped by disconnecting the chorging
plug from the A-C socket. www.butkus.us

The built-in bottery needs no mointenonce of ony kind, but must, of course, be
re-chorged when run down.
The condition of the bottery is indicoted by the recovery time, thot is to soy
the time which elopses between the emitting of o flosh ond the lighting up of the
signol lomp ogoin, when using the unit on bottery power. This omounts to

8 secs when fully chorged, No. of floshes left: 80-90
I0 secs when t/z dischorged No. of f loshes left: obout 40
30 secs when fully dischorged, No. of f loshes left: 0

The recovery time should not be ollowed to exceed 30 seconds without the
bottery being re-chorged. The chorging period then omounts to obout l4 hours.
When only 40 floshes hove been mode, o chorging period of obout 7 hours is
odequote. The bottery is not domoged, however, if it is left unchorged for long-
er periods of time. The bottery hos on exeptionolly long life of obout 400 to
500 rechorges. lf by mistoke the mechonism is left turned on for o long period
of time, the bottery will dischorge ond unit will no longer operote. Normoly,
this will not spoil the bottery, but up to 50 hrs. moy be required for o new full
chorge. lt will then be bock to full copocity ofter 2to3 odditionol normol dis-
chorge cycles with q l4 hrs. rechorge fsr eoch.

POWER ECONOMIZER

The METEOR SP con be set to either holf or full
power by meons of the power economizer switch.

O Full power

D Holf power

With the switch set to hqlf power, the guide number
is outomoticolly reduced by 1/s. For this reoson, the
stop settings indicqted by the cqlculotor must olso
be reduced by 1/s, os the lotter is bqsed only on full
power cond itions.
The odvontoges of using holf power ore shorter re-
covery time (s-Asecs) ond increqsed number of
f lqshes per bottery chorge (130-140 f loshes).

STOP COMPUTOR AND GUIDE NUMBER

Stop Computor
Whenever doylight or constont sources of ortif iciol light ore
ovoiloble, correct exposure is reguloted by meons of shut-
ter speed ond stop. However, if the very short electronic
flosh is used, correct exposure con only be reguloted by
the diophrogm stop.
It is eosy to oscertoin the required stop setting ofter remov-
ing the stop computor ond odiusting the internql knurled
disk to the sensitivity of the film used (e.g. 40 ASA). The
block orrow opplies to block-ond-white f ilm, the red one to
color film. The stop setting (e.g. 8) con be reod off oppo-
site the ronge figure (20 ft). This method of internol odiust-
ment precludes the setting of the f ilm sensitivity being occi-
dentolly disturbed

GUIDE NUMBER

lf the sensitiviiy of your film or the distonce connot be encompossed by the
compufor, proper stop volue con be colculoted from the guide number (see
poge 1 1) or os follows:

     guide number
                   = stop    (for exomple: for ASA 400 color film     = 5.6)     Jirt"".e                                                              ;

Distonce is meosured in ft. between lomp ond subiect.

The guide number is, of course, only on opproximotion. lt is governed by the
light output of the METEOR SP ond by the film sensitivity, however,-it olso
depends on the brightness of subiect, size ond brightness of room ond method
of developing. Guide numbers indicoted ore overoges colculoted for normol
size rooms with lighi.wolls ond con be used for distonces down to obout 3 ft.
For shorler distonces it is odvisoble to f ind the correct operture by triol ond error.
lf you ore toking pictures outsides, in lorge holls, or of bright, reflecting ob-
iects ot long distonces, be sure to open diophrogm 1 or 2 stops more thon'10 required by mothemoticol colculotion or stop computor.

Guide number vories for color ond block ond white film, olthough they moy
hove the some sensitivity. Using the guide number groph ot the right, guide
numbers for every type of film con be oscertoined in the following monner,
Find the sensitivity of your film on the left hond scole, follow it horizontolly
until it intersects the line for the type of film you ore using (color or block ond
white). The proper guide numbers is ihen locoted on the horizontol scole directly
below the point of intersection. Exomple: ASA 40, block ond white film, guide .|60.

     FItM AND DEVEI.OPING
The METEOR SP light corresponds to doylight of 55000 K. Therefore, use only
doylight film for color pictures. For block ond white pictures we recommend
ponchromotic film with normol developing. An especiolly high quolity of bril-
liont, finely groduoted negotives con be obtoined by using q modern ropid
12 developer. volues indicoted refer to normol developing time.

REFORMING THE STORAGE CAPACITOR
When ihe flosh hos not been used for severol weeks, it is best to plug it in on
electric socket |or 20 to 30 minutes. This will reform the elecirolyie copocitor
ond the unit will reoch its full flosh power ogoin. During the re-octivotion
period, the unit should be f loshed ot intervols.

    AUTOMATIC TRANSISTORIZED MONITORI NG CIRCUIT
The tronsistor-reloy-circuit of the METEOR SP soves the bottery ond outomoti-
colly keeps light output constoni. When toking pictures it is not necessory to
turn off the unit to sove bottery, Just os soon os the METEOR SP hos been turn-
ed on, the outomotic control tokes over the iob of reguloting flosh copocitor
voltoge thus securing on ever constont light output. At the some time, this outo-
motic mechonism cuts off bottery current iust os soon os full flosh power hos
been reoched, increosing the octuol number of floshes ovoiloble. This outo-
motic control hos the greot odvontoge of moking it possible to keep the
METEOR SP in constont operotion. This meons thot it is olwoys reody to work
14 ond you won't hove to miss thot once-in-o-lifetime-shot.

HINTS FOR BETTER SNAPSHOTS WITH YOUR METEOR SP

            t !,
  huYn"a
Direct light from the front often couses pictures to be flot ond uninteresting.
More effective lighting effects ond o more plostic impression con be obtoined
if the flosh is ploced owoy from the comero to the side or obove subiect. The
loss of light coused by this moy be compensoted by opening the diophrogm
more. Synchronizing extension coble con be bought from your comero deoler.
The METEOR SP hos o voriety of odvontoges when used os on odditionol
source of light. When the weother is dull, the flosh con substitute for sunshine.
It con brighten up the shodows - especiolly importont for color photogrophy -
ond correct too shorp controsts. Here is on exomple for choosing the proper
stop: .
A distonce of l0ft. ond guide number 80would coll for stop 8. For ihe generol
lighting, the light meter requires on exposure of r/zs sec with obove stop.
Set comero ot this speed. lnsteod of stop 8, set shutter to ll. Thereby the flosh
brillioncy will hove the some effect os doylight. Increosing of speed reduces
the influence of doylight. 15
