2. SUPER C0IUIEI flosh photogrophy

o) Bottery operotion
Push the flosh heod with the spring-looded foot into
the shoe on your comero or
mount it on the universol brocket (speciol occessory)
ond screw this to your comero.
Plug the synchronizing cord into the comero ond
set the synchronizing lever to "X". Set the shutter
to obout l/100 sec. (with focol plone shutters see
comero hondbook).

To switch on: Press the operotion switch on the
upper side of the unit to position "B" so thot the
red mork will be visible.
Red signol light indicotes reodiness for floshing.
To flosh: reoleose the comero shutter or for open-
flosh press the red hond releose knob.

b) A-C operofion
.l25The unit is provided for ll0, 117, volts A-C
operotion. Any ordinory line cord (os it is used
to connect on electric iron) moy olso be used to
connect the unit to the plug receptocle. The line
cord is connected inserting to the unit by it into
socketthe occessible which is the ffiirrmuuu' removing ofter
sliding plote under the unit itself.
To switch on: Press the operotion switch io its out-
word position so ihot the green mork will be visible.
The signol light on the flosh heod indicotes reodi-
ness for operotion.
To switch off: Remove operotion switch bock to

3. Chorging the bottery
Just the some procedure os it is re-
quired for A-C operotion, i. e. connect
the unit with the coble to the plug
receptocle ond press the operotion
switch to its outword position so thot
the green mork will be visible. No
further monipulotion will be necessory.
During the period of chorging, the
signol lomp ot the heod of the flosh
will light up. The nickel- codmium
bottery built-in in the housing is gos-
proof ond does not require ony moin-
teno nce.
The conCition of chorging the bottery moy be checked by the time until the
signol lomp will light up:
7 sec. = fully chorged -9
oppr. l8 sec.: holf dischorged

lf the bottery is completely dischorged, the time of rechorging will be obout
14 hours. In order to hove the full number of 40 to 50 floshes ot hond, it is
to be recommended to keep the unit olwoys fully chorged. There will occurI no domoge if you keep your bottery unchorged even during extended
periods, or if it moy hoppen thot it will be overchorged occosionolly. The
time of service is very long ond the bottery moy be rechorged obout 400
to 500 times.
Shpuld it hoppen occosionolly lhot the unit will be switched on for hours,
the bottery will be compleiely dischorged ond the vibrotor will no longer
work. The NC-bottery will not be domoged or destroyed, however, it will
need for the rechorging up to 60 hours. After 2-3 further dischorges in
o normol flosh operotion ond eoch rechorging of 14 hours it will obtoin its
full output.
4. Re-forming lhe storqge condenser
After o period of o few weeks without use, we recommend running the unit
trom l/a lo 1/z hour plugged into A-C. The operotion switch should meonwhile
be set to its outword position, so thot the green mork will be visible. This
procedure, without flosh operotion, will re-form the storoge condensers, so
thot you will get the moximum number of floshes per occumulotor chorge.View original page 11Page 12 · Read text

5. Guide number qnd setting of diophrogm
The guide number is determined by the light output of the ULTRABLITZ unit
ond by the sensitivity of the films. The required operture con be colculoted
with the oid of this guide number with the following formulo:

e. g. for medium-sized, bright rooms.
The operture should be increosed by one or two stops for out-door floshing,
in lorge holls or of greot distonce from reflecting oreos. lf the distonce is i
shorter thon 8 ft. o greoter diophrogm should be token, e. g. of o distonce

Ai o constoni film sensitivity the guide number is o different one for color
film ond block-ond-white-film. The oppropriote guide number for film moteriol
of ony film sensitivity con be reod off the odiocent diogrom. Find the
sensitivity of your film on the left-hond scole, follow it horizontolly ocross
until it cuts ocross the line for the type of film you ore using (color film or
block-ond-white film), ond the required guide number, is found verticolly .l00 below the point of intersection. For instonce: block-ond-white film ASA
guide number - ,I60.
6. Film ond developing
ULTRABLITZ iight is equivolent to doylight of 56000 K. Therefore olwoys use
doylight film for color exposures. For block-ond-white exposures, it is best
to use ponchromotic f ilm with o normol developing. Very sotisfoctory
negotives meeting the highest requirements os to o fovoroble grodotion will
be obtoined by the use of modern ropid developers. The indicoted volues

8. speciol hinls for obtaining eyen beiler snopshots with the
SUPER CO'UIET
Pictures shot with frontol light often ore very flot. You con obtoin o more
effective illuminotion ond o more plostic effect when you direct the light upon
the obiect from the side or from obove. The loss of illuminoting power moy
be compensoted by increosing the diophrogm operture.
In cloudy weother SUPER COMET will contribute often extro illuminotion
ond it is possible to get the some effect os in sunlight. Shorply constrosting
illuminotion when shooting ogoinst the light con olso be softened in this woy,
ond this is very importont especiolly for color photogrophy, os too shorp
confrosts will be softened too.
The following is o procticol exomple:
At o ronge of l2 feet suppose the right stop is 8 toking 96 os guide number.
For the generol lighting you f ind on exposure time of 1/25 sec. for f 8 with
on exposure meter. Set your comero to this exposure time. Then if you
set the diophrogm to ll, the supplementory flosh will hove obout the some
photogrophic effect os the doylight. The shorter the exposure time is set, the
more the effeci of outside illuminotion will diminish. 't5

9. Service and Guorcntee
lf these instructions ore properly followed, the ULTRABLITZ SUPER COMET
will perform well for mony yeors to come. In the event, however, thot your
ULTRABLITZ should ot ony time foil to function properly, the comero store
where the SUPER COMET wos purchosed should be consulted, or o bronch of .l0, Allied lmpex Corp.,300 Fourth Avenue, New York N. Y., sole foctory-
outhorizedimporter(seeimportcertificote).
The SUPER COMET is guoronteed by us, through our representotive for six
months in occordonce with the conditions set forth in the guorontee certificote,
enclosed with the SUPER COMET. Whenever the SUPER COMET is returned
for repoirs, it must be occomponied by the guorontee certificote os other-
wise our representotive will hove to chorge for the repoir. The terms of the
